I can kind of understand that, but Pikachu is one of the hardest characters in the game to play. In contrast, Cloud is arguably the easiest, next to May-rioh.

I follow alot of high level competitive smash, listen to my advice:

If you master Sheik, it's belived she wins cloud due to her having horizontal combos that can send him into an offstage situation. but do note sheik is one of the most technical characters in the game

Marth and Lucina are also a solid answer, a japanese top player called Komorikiri counterpicks Lucina against clouds. while im not sure if they actually win the matchup, they certainly do really well in it. try to use your counter to gimp cloud's recovery. Marth is generally seen as stronger than Lucina btw.

Diddy and Mario also deal with cloud pretty decently (even though mario has troubles dealing with disjoints, cloud's recovery suffers from cape and flood)

Some day Pika is problemtic for cloud because of his edgegaurd game but i find this a bit questionable considering pika is known for not liking disjoints. maybe he does beat cloud, maybe he doesn't.

True combo always works regardless of what your opponent does.

Non true combo is like an execution test for your opponent - the combo is escapeable, but they must do the right thing to escape it.

It will never happen. You could spend 15x the resources rebalancing 10 characters, or just fix the problem. This is without factoring in the fact that Smash isn't designed to be a super high level, meta-driven tournament game. Some characters are bad competitively specifically because they're intended for low level players.

Also consider Smash 4 is probably approaching middle age - I can't imagine we won't be hearing about Smash 5 within a year or two.

This is also why the DLC characters have been so rushed and poorly designed. They're made in 6 weeks with virtually zero testing. We should thank our fucking stars that Mewtwo and Bayo got fixed.

Cloud is broken, but he isn't meta-destroying, so all things considered, I think he'll probably be left alone due to time/money constraints.

Anyone got some good videos on the absolute basics of Smash?

I don't mean like the literal controls, but basically my matches vary drastically due to being good at my aerial game but never having learned a lot of basic things. I'm not good at punishing rolls and I charge in too often. My friends that I used to beat consistently when they came over on weekends have surpassed me now.

I tried just practicing in for glory but the lag makes it feel like an entirely different game, it's pretty disgusting. Should I fight level 9 CPUs or amiibo or something?

Also any Mario-specific videos would be cool.

I definitely know him better than any other character, but I'm sure there's still some stuff I have left to learn. I saw some video a few months ago about how you can charge FLUDD completely during your respawn invincibility frames, so I always do that now. I still barely use FLUDD, though.

Here's a playlist of my uploads. I played purple Mario in most of them. I think only the video at the end is a full match. I have some more recent matches that I might be able to upload. I used to play 3 stock so it was literally always too long to upload full matches, making me hate the 3 minute limit, but since going 2 stock I think most of my saved replays can be uploaded actually.

Observe what goes wrong, when you make your mistakes and notify yourself about getting rid of the habits
Practice edgeguarding and spikes, if you don't feel you're good at that. Maybe you need to practice the matchups against the characters your friends are playing?
Look at video clips of professionals playing and notice what they do differently than you and consider how/when to adapt (ally won evo 2016 recently with Mario, check his matches out)

That's all I can think of, obviously I can't know for sure, what our disadvantages are. But first advice is always important. Other than that, don't get hit

I actually do spikes pretty often now. Edgeguarding in general I occasionally shy away from, or rather going off the edge, I do. I frequently use my dash attack as people are coming up from the ledge to try to hit them and it works a decent amount.

Yeah, I do a lot of dash attacks. I'm pretty much always running which of course stops my tilts from working. Walking is definitely easier with a gamecube controller than it was with a wii u pro controller, but I still don't do it much. What should my go-to attack be? I guess I can do more grabs.

well, you only learn off-stage edgeguarding by trying it out. It takes its time, but it really ends up getting rewarding imo. Try to approach in different ways (dash attack sometimes, bait and punish other times, dair sometimes for example)

1: you need to work on getting your grabs. Look at how rewarding my grabs were against your marth in the last match, and you'll see why
2: You leave yourself really vulnerable and predictable, when you're offstage/recovering. Try to jump , down air jump (fast) from the ledge to mix up and prevent your opponent from reading you
3: Your general neutral game is fine, can always be improved, but 1 and 2 are the things you need to focus on. Also, you got some nice spikes, gj with those

your dash attacks weren't that big of a problem as I thought, but be careful about only using attacks. I kept countering you as corrin due to the fact I wanted you top mix up kek

work on your off-stage playing and practice your grab-followups and you can improve really fast. Good luck and git gud

np. Also another thing: You need to be more prepared for, what your opponent will do/reading your opponent. When I got you off-stage and edge-guarded you with one bair as mewtwo, you should have expected that one. Doing so makes it way harder for your opponent to edge-guard you, which is a part of your of-stage weakness.

Obviously, all of these are normal things that take time to work at. Always try new stuff out when you're practicing and when you're playing with your friends, as this is the way to improve
