So I just started Generation. And who the fuck designed Verdent Hills and Arctic Ridge? These are some of the worst maps I have ever traveled through.

Verdent Hills is just copy and paste forest and plain corridors that feel devoid of aesthetics and life (compared to what we got in Tri, 4 and Gen.) Meanwhile Arctic Ridge is what happens when someone looks at the giant cliff way of Ancestral Steppe and fighting Lagi in the underwater parts of flooded forest, and decides to design half the map around those two things. I mean having giant cliff sides for several areas and the cave sections being nothing but tiny as fuck pathways with abyssal drops really reduces where battles can be done in a non cluster fuck fashion.

Traveling those two areas felt exactly like when I fought Gen 1 and 2 monsters for the first time in 4U where they were all clunky, had terrible hitboxes and were wholly inferior to the Gen 3 and 4 monsters, but in map form. They better not repeat shit like this in Gen 5. Since Jurassic was a good map.

Assist cats for companions. Look for whatever you want, Health Horn, Cheer Horn, traps, etc. Teach Piercing Boomerang. For skills, Boomerang Pro. If you get Earplugs, they'll whack you out of the roar stagger. The reason you go for Assist cats instead is that their AI favors boomerang attacks, which allows them stack up sleep from the Malfestio boomerang faster. Boomerang Pro makes them double throw boomerangs.

I'm being serious here, you're forced to use an awkward control scheme (clawing), the maps are poorly designed (see above), the monsters are extremely clunky and tend to use the same recycled animation (Raths, Yian, Gravieos, etc.) the list of monster is artificially inflated with sub species that are just a recolor with one new attack or element, bad hit boxes, and only a few weapons were viable for clearing G-rank in timely manner playing solo.

I mean shit, I was willing to give the benefit of the doubt that maybe FU had some merits over the later games when /v/ was playing Tri and 3U. But when 4U and Generations included monsters and areas from FU. You have to have mental sickness, severe fanboyism or Stockholm Syndrome to think FU is better than any of the games that came after it.

It was far the strongest entry when it came out, and compared to Tri/p3rd weak roster and difficulty it was still looking great way past its heyday.

Quality of life upgrades, however, are undeniable, and there have been lots of releases for the team to sorely figure out ways to be nice to the player.

All that being said, FU hasn't aged well. It treats the player like shit in a lot of ways: but that is at the heart of the game's entire lasting appeal

You can't transition into Super from Sword, so to charge red shield you need to manual go into axe and manually super into cancel. You lost all super transitions, no thruist into aed and no gp into aed.

Arcshot is better at applying status. And if you don't have exhaust coatings they're the only way to apply KO.

They're shit for DPS tho. (they do more damage and status than a normal fully charged shot, but they come out too slowly) You should only be using those when you already charged and the monster is too far away to hit with normal shots.

Blast, 1 arrow that hits twice (arrow+explosion). Focus = wide but in a smaller area. You shouldn't be using any of these 99% of the time. Powershot is the way to go, specially now that there is this haphazard skill that gives 1.2x more damage, so if you always do both your normal+powershot, its the same damage increase as having "shot-up" (1.1x) from a 5 slot skill.

So I'm new to monster hunter so sorry if this is a stupid question.
I'm looking at the hitzone damage charts on Kiranico and for a lot of the monsters they're often twice as weak to shot damage (usually in the 40's) while the elemental damage rarely goes beyond 25 or 30. Is elemental damage really bad or is there something else going on that would make elemental my elemental shots do more than just physical damage shots?
