so im new, and made a mage deck

and i went to play vs people and this guy was a mage too so I thought it would be a good game

this dude starts pulling out crazy cards, like all of his cards cost the same as mine but had like 50 effects

and then he had a c'thun(?) card that he was saving

I just surrendered once he got a card that gave him 3 free spells

what am I supposed to do against that? how do i get those cards?

My list is faster and more tempo-oriented, but I still keep 1x Shadowcaster, 1x Shadowstep, and 1x Blade of C'thun for slow MUs. You always have time to draw into them against C'thun Warrior, so basically every game ends in an 18+ C'thun -> Shadowstep, mini-Brann C'thun. It's absolutely gross.

Brann-Doomcaller is used as a way to overpower other control decks. C'thun Warrior doesn't pump up C'thun to be particularly big, so instead this version of the deck tries to make two more to beat out opponents as equally slow as themselves.

The best substitutes would be other extra reach options for the heavy control mirror, such as Elise.

I also run infest, in case I get the snakes and not the buzzard. Then after snake trap procs infest them, thats a 2 card 5 cost draw 3 (random beasts). I dont net deck never have been playing since beta. My hunter deck only gets around rank 12. These tactics make you not a pure face hunter, but have come in handy more than a few times.

the 5 health is laughable for a turn 8 minion.

the windfury is not even close to being as useful as the doomhammer because, again, you can only pull the combo with rockbitter at turn 9, as opposed to turn 6 with doomhammer.

if you're running doomhammer AND 2 things from below, you just most definitely cut al'akir.

Al'akir is not bad, he's good. Sadly, "good" is not enough to shaman, as only "broken as shit bullshit" is allowef in that cancer class.
Anyway on the deck:
1-Cut either the hammer or the Al'akir, your choice
2-I don't like 477 in midrange because if they get dealt with (common occurence with all the warriors and their execute) they completely destroy your tempo. Some other guys like them so do whatever
3-get Fire Elementals, they're very good
4-Take put primal fusion, it's meh
5-you may want Azure Drakes. If you do, also add either a second Bolt or a stormcrack
6- find the right balance of filler cards. Maybe I'd go with 2 squires and 1 juggler.

I thought the purpose of Standard was to not make it impossible to get into the game without spending a shit ton of money if you're new. Or specifically- they don't have to drop the price on the older adventures.

Think about it, 1 year from now you're new and trying to get into hearthstone, have no idea what to do, but know there's 5 different types of card packs you can buy and 5 different adventures you need to buy to compete. You'd be overwhelmed by the amount of cards needed to even compete in the game and be turned off.

With Standard, the amount of cards you need is reduced, and classic cards are a 100% safe bet because they'll never go away.

So yesterday I started playing again and you suggested me to try deck hunter since u dont need that much essence.
I did that and went from 25 to 16 rank but now it's just not working.

Reno heals you up to full if you don't have two of the same cards in your deck, and that just applies to the undrawn portion of your deck.

The best you can do is be aware that certain classes have certain AoE cards and not put too many of your minions on the board until they waste them all.

What is it with 5 wins in arena? It's always the point where it can suddenly come tumbling down.

Arena sucks these days. Too much tempo, and too much 'oh you happened to have the counter play in your hand' rather than strategic play/ trading. It feels far more luck than it used to. The last deck I just lost to had 2 Eldritch Horrors and very mediocre cards- they just so happpened to be perfect for the board state.

Mage is the class that has ridiculous tempo cards that abuse spells like no other class can do it. They are Blizzard's favorite child, so of course they get everything so they can do anything.
