Just unlocked the Ho 229 and got 5 kills my first game, were you guys lying to me this entire time?

I'm trying to set up MEC so I can control the radiator to achieve superior climb rate and top speed. In auto the radiator is automatically CLOSED during WEP, which would make sense if you were at high speed but during initial climb it just means that you almost immediately overheat. Under normal 100% the radiator is pretty wide which means that even at good speed you're still wasting a lot of drag on cooling that you don't need.

If I turn on MEC, then have buttons to make pitch, mixture, supercharger, all go back to auto, can I achieve a situation where I'm basically in auto engine controls except I get to play with the radiator?

i love Ho-5s, i feel like they're almost on shvak tier of lethal. ki-43s and la-5s have my favourite gun style and i feel like aiming with them is just so natural. 30mm japanese shells travel real slow but when they hit they rarely just spark the plane and often atomize it in 1 shot.

type 99s also a shit. they dont deal much damage compared to Ho-5s and the fact they're always wing mounted means by default that they're worse.

also i have this weird feeling that the J2M2 works well with 2xtype 99 but the J2M3/4/5 with 4x20mm arent anywhere close to twice as lethal

i'm not talking about the game now, i'm talking about actual reality. in the real world, the p-38 was a good plane, while in warthunder its shit. that depends on the difference between how real pilots flew the plane and how enemies perceived it. if i fly a zero i can easily fend off any dive from a P-38 making him overshoot me pretty much indefinitely long: there's nothing he can do to catch me unless someone else joins in and i get distracted. while in reality cooperation brought successful use of these tactics, in the game a single P-38 cant do shit agains pretty much anything in 1v1. while the P-38 is a plane based on teamplay and support, a japanese zero can support itself and make kills without other planes assisting him in the way. this makes it an inferior plane compared to what it actually was in reality because the game cant replicate his greatest strength

They had good velocity, a good rate of fire, were effective against the aircraft the USA had to shoot down, and planes could carry vast amounts of ammo. Desu I fucked around with it earlier and it's surprisingly better than I expected, the menu just appears really daunting because some of the control names got engrish'd. I made one button to toggle auto engine controls on and off, one to toggle auto-radiator, and one each for radiator open/radiator close. Works perfectly, I can WEP a K4 up to like 5km before it goes yellow when I open the radiator all the way.
I also didn't expect the controls for multiple engines to be so simple, you just map one key per engine to toggle controls for it on and off.

What you're failing to mention to support your narrative is that even in 2013 only a handful of people won the prems, you could do every event and walk away with nothing, which was bitched about non-stop right here on /wtg/.
In order to win vehicles in the 2014 one you had to play an absurd amount of games as the top scorer with high battle activity. In case you forgot, most people said "fuck it" and didn't even bother, not because it was impossible but because it was a second job.

2015 was two shitty prems that nobody cared about, but the requirements to get them were very straightforward and achievable.

You might have better luck bitching about the other events, such as golden november in 2014 where GE was handed out like candy for simple tasks, or the christmas events the next month where you could get two (worthless) prems for completing a dozen piss-easy tasks. For the most part people actually enjoyed those because the tasks were simple enough that you could do them without feeling like you had a second job. Those days are gone now.

The point is they desperately want more and more people to be queueing up and entering into battles, because far too many players just login and play a handful or even one or none every day and repeat it daily. The grind has reached a point where it's actually off-putting more than their added content can reward.

Up until about last year they experimented with events to see what went down best and what could be useful to collect information from and see how people liked it. Events now require huge time commitments and they experiment wildly with matchmaking and game mechanics during them. Then you have the competitive tournament ones which are just an absolute fucking meme. It's easy to get something but it's just going downhill, and the rewards are never particularly rewarding beyond the collection autism (they are often not particularly useful to grind with, for instance).

Fire and Maneuver Advanced (Pz. II H & Bf 109 G-2). I bought it long ago but the vehicles in it are still undeniably good (unlike others that have been changed) and fun to play. If you have no issue with giving Gaijin money at this point then that's what you should be buying. If you want to grind another tree then buy talismans or eagle premiums.

I don't know about any of the others, but looking at the store they've changed them around a bit and they're all pretty underwhelming because they either

Premium tanks/planes are never ever worth it unless they are unique tanks/planes that you can't unlock in the tree.


If you are trying to grind a new tree deal with the T1-T2 grind as needed without anything. These are pretty easy tiers to do. Then find a good T3 tank that you enjoy and are good at and give it a talisman. Use it to grind out rest of T3/T4/T5. If there's a good T4/T5 tank you like talismen that too and use it as desired.

You could also talismen a T2 tank if you want and you don't see any good T3 tank and then get a talis on a T4 tank for the T5 grind.

Really the only benefit of premium tanks/planes is the silver lion boost. If you just want it for RP a talismen is far cheaper.

the kv-1 is shit and the il-2 is just another il-2. the dora is AMAZING if you play air RB. one of my favorite planes anyway, I guess I can't say if it is objectively good or not. I don't have the prem version nor remember what the difference between the premium and the regular dora was but I assume it's similar. the typhoon is shit, as in that particular premium typhoon is shit (i have it), the regular nonpremium typhoon is fine. the p51 is just another p51, i dont like flying p51s but i guess if you do knock yourself out.
i think there are 3 reasons you would get a premium plane.
1. it's unique
2. you arent anywhere close to unlocking the regular version in whatever nation tree it is from
3. you actually want to grind with it
option 3 is dumb, because you should just get a talisman instead

Once I got my chieftain (first 8.0 for me) the very first thing I noticed it that I almost never got downtiered, and because of this the selection of tanks is very limited since there's only a handful of 8.0s.

Meanwhile when I play Arcade on my chieftain I get downtiered to 7.0 all the time and the game is always full.

Oh the only hand my Cent Mk 10 @ 7.0 was downtiered like every match in RB, was great.
