The characters themselves may not be deep, but the interactions between characters tend to be. CG is largely happy-go-lucky, so character interactions tend to be light and fun without anything heavy to give, and no necessary justification otherwise considering character background detail wouldn't imply anything of the sort. ML isn't any less happy-go-lucky for the most part, but they do give a reasonable amount more heaviness to certain character's through conflicting interactions because of known background detail. Not all drama is A-1-level "errmuhgawd forced drama" cheap bullshit, and there's a quality standard that a lot of the LTP/LTH drama tracks have, but that probably wouldn't be emulated too well for an anime adaption.

The perfect idol anime would be an omake style show, with just wacky episodic scenarios, ideally with guest writers from the genres being parodied. A kung fu episode. A western episode. An episode where Mika captures all the lolis and Kirari and Sanae team up to rescue them.

That was the CG anime I wanted to see.

This. A-1 just sucks at drama but it's their favorite thing to add in, because they are ARTISTES or something. They don't even put in the right kind of drama and a lot of it just comes seemingly out of left field and has little to do with the character. Like, Chieri's character is due partially to her relationship to her busy parents, but they never touch upon that. Instead, they just simply made her "muh clobaa" (which she is on the surface but that's what we call flanderizing) or "kaeru-san". Hell, her introduction in mobamasu is hoping you won't leave her, which is a pretty big clue on fear of abandonment.

But that's a little too dark, but also, a little too personal and has no simple resolution, and we can't have just a non-resolution for a possible bittersweet thing.

Chieri is also not NG so she doesn't deserve that much screen time or focus.

Any "dark" characteristics are gonna get filtered and modified for an A-1 ML anime, I guarantee you that. And the power of teamwork will prevail because teamwork. And chaos emeralds. Believe in yourself and your friends.

Anyway, I'm kind of mad they left that bit out about Chieri because it does give a clue as to why she's the she is. It's too late now, though.

Magic Hours were great and I was looking forward to them every week.
The often very surprising voice giveaways and cameos in plenty of episodes that created this feeling of anticipation and hype before every livestream.
The free SRs and costumes for your puchis in the mobage.
The new units, songs, the tsunami of fanart, the memes, honestly, that was very entertaining time in my opinion, because every week brought us something new.
Even the show itself, save the Mio drama, wasn't really that bad.
