Getting there with the diary. This hour or two before reset is perfect for doing all sorts of the other stuff. Gone and done some exploring (haven't gotten all the places for the medals yet), did ToT, got a crafting profession to level 5, and some more. But god damn, is it still a chore to level. All the maps are fucking PACKED. And they changed snails in future hene, it's a bigger map now so the spawn is spread out.

Private server is what I'd normally recommend. Aries is the only one that's up-to-date and decent, but it has problems. Ellinia would be great if it was up-to-date and wiped.
So, I'd recommend playing on official servers currently because the private server options are shit.
You'd play on a private server to actually get access to the Cash Shop's content. The game is pay2win unless you play on a decent pserver

Yes there's a Spooky guild made when the server first came out however there's not many people from /msg/ that play aries atm, because well, the server is beyond shit so people come try and leave.

Played it during release, could get 100cubes faster than you could get 10cubes on Ellinia. I don't see how it can be a good server. Even if that's changed that just means anyone who played then has such a stupid advantage. I had like 1000 cubes before 205 and like 10mil mesos. Gonna throw my own opinion in since I liked to farm at Intermediate Magicians in Kritias. That might just be for me tho, since Lumi's can basically clear the map just by sitting on the top platform and spamming reflection. Doing it with all my drop gear, a 2x coupon and 2x event gave me enough boxes to last for a few weeks. Map is shit if it isn't Kish'd tho.

Aries has a much smoother income curve than Ellinia because of the increased value of the global cash and coin drops, and lowered value of NX procs. NX procs and meso drops also appear to be based on mob level, not mob health. As a result, someone with 50k stat would farm at most 2x more mesos/hr than someone with 5k stat; once you get to Skyline, you're basically done with progression on Aries. Combined with the lack of endgame content (what's the point of getting better gear if there's nothing stronger to use it for?), that provides very little incentive for further progression.

Ellinia is still alive because it is the best server. That doesn't mean that its good.

Aries end game ends as soon as you hit cap which is ridiculously low (100m unless you really want to lvl pass 250 and do paragon leveling shit which no one has even capped yet anyways, 500m in that case). Yes it does, but it's not worth it to do anything on Ellinia and people who get shilled into playing it come back to this general thinking "what the fuck did I just play?" because everyone has shadow partner to double/triple their lines at lvl 200 and bosses have 600% PDR and mobs with millions of HP give off thousands of NX that you blow into nothing trying to get to that point. That's the point, Aries' progression curve is so smooth that you can clear almost everything relevant in a week or two. As >>149407814 said, there's little incentive to continue gearing once you can do CRA/Magnus, unlike Ellinia which has custom content like CWKPQ and Black Mage (which has actually been killed this wipe) to encourage people to go past that point. CWKPQ also has very good drops, so it's worth it to clear it for the income alone (although at that point in progression you're probably obscenely wealthy anyway). Gear also doesn't do much to increase your income on Aries, since endgame farming spots aren't much better than unbuffed Skyline. That leads to people reaching endgame very quickly and then quitting.

That's only possible on Ellinia because people have SW gear. Leeching is also complete shit for income.
On that note, I wish there would be a Crystal 2, but updating it to the latest version would involve hundreds to thousands of hours of debugging. Ideally it'd have a progression curve between Ellinia's and Aries, so people don't hit endgame too quickly and then get bored, and at the same time don't hit a progression wall like Ellinia has between CRA/Tyrants and Absolabs/SW.

As bad as Aries and Ellinia are, both servers are still preferable to playing GMS for anyone who wants to scratch the nostalgia itch.

It also looks like there aren't going to be any viable competitors to Aries and Ellinia any time soon. The best one can hope for is Ellinia wiping or the release of a second server. Dream has no incentive to continue updating Ellinia because the population has continued to remain steady over the past few months despite his inactivity.

Aries isn't going to thrive in the long run because its economy and codebase are inherently flawed. They are incapable of retaining players in the long run. Their coders are also far less skilled than Dream.

Not Aria, but Dream is the only one that tried to make a good server and delivered. Dream is a very skilled coder. His servers have been fun every single time (ignoring Titan's retarded idea-guy servers called Masteria and Sol). Vivid, Eden, and Lucid (to a lesser extent) were the most fun I've ever had playing Maplestory.
