Speaking of RTS, I tried Nightside and Perimeter.

They're both pretty shit.
Nighside has 8 units for 4 races (which are virtually identical), and Perimeter is unoptimized and slow even on my doomsday computer. Perimeter 2 manages to be even worse.

>I am become the Monster in Stellaris
I feel unclean, because up until now I'd been managing a pretty good run of not antagonizing anybody.
The worst part is that my neighboring bird-people, the first- and for a long time, only- contacts I'd had are now terrified of me. Considering that their Fanatic-Xenophile tendencies were what allowed us to to have good relations in the first place, and how trading tech deals with them had helped keep my research up to speed and my planets developed... we were actually pretty much "friendly rivals" for a long time; when one pulled ahead in fleet strength, the other would catch up in a matter of months, their expansion away from me matched my expansion away from them step for step... I'd have allied with them, if the system for building alliances wasn't so fucked up- seriously, why is it so difficult for equals to form an Alliance? It's safe to say they were the reason I didn't go on an aggressive conquering spree like I'd originally planned, and I've been so engaged because of it.
And now they're terrified of me. They've seen what I can do when angered, and suddenly their old friend looks a lot more menacing.

I'll pick it up when it's as cheap or cheaper than Civ V when it's on sale right now, but I refuse to pay so much for a reskin game, even if I like sci-fi.

I've been meaning to poach art assets from BE and put them into Civ V for modern era/near future modding.

What does /4xg/ think of Age of Wonders 3?

>>149320874
Diplomacy in this game is a goddamn joke.

I *have* to tie myself down with militarily binding agreements to get anything done diplomatically, but there are so many fucking mechanics in-place to punish me for cooperating and signing treaties with the AI.

Fallen empires is a nice concept on paper but it really does nothing except limit player's ideology choice. Where are the pro-slave or pro-war fallen empires? Why do they never seem to help me when someone else's purging my race that MIGRATED THERE BY THEIR OWN VOLITION AND THUS OUT OF MY SPHERE OF CONTROL and giving me negative infinity happiness penalty globally?

I take it you never played Spore, especially the Tribe phase.

I totally aced that game and did every phase in 15 minutes max, even the civilization one, but the pathfinding often fucked me so hard in the Tribe phase that it took me 3 total wipes to win.

And many RTS have incredibly pathfinding as well.
Warlord Battlecry, Red Alert 2, even SupCom sometimes has a shitty pathfinding.

The one in the warhammer game is based mostly around vampires acting as necromancers, however the dead serve only as soldiers. Their lands are still inhabited by living people, who I guess turn into soldiers at their lords whim.

There are also traditional beasts and undead monsters you'd associate with the dead.

Look up vampire counts on the warhammer game wiki. I'm sure they have a short read about them.
>>
>>149350360
If you can hold them off and then push them off you, no. They will basically be ignored by the AI, however, and use Warp/Jump Drive tech to zip around. Keep that in mind. IIRC, killing the queens gives you a window to start pushing them back.

If you don't (or can't) meet them now, they will eventually reach you. The AI shits the bed during endgame events. I would focus on nipping them in the bud now, since they could completely overwhelm you if they have half the galaxy under their control.

If you haven't already, build battleship and cruiser designs with a heavy emphasis on lances, plasma weapons, and point defense. The scourge is easy as fuck to battle (Point defense heavy long range fleets can easily take on Prethoryn fleets x2-x3 times their size with negligible losses), but they're a pain in the ass to eradicate.

We could talk about what we want to see in 4x/RTS games.

Starsector ship combat should be the standard for space combat.
More so than spessships, replace the background with a landscape graphic with ground-based combat units as replacements for ships. Frigates as infantry, destroyers as armor, cruisers as arty, so on and so forth.
Just give me ground combat that isn't watching health bars tick down for fucks sake.

Kinda. There's always that one asshole who takes 15minutes to finish his turn while you wait, and then whines because you went to take a shit.
>>
>>149366889
I'd wait for a while longer.

Diplomacy is still a fucking mess, and the AI suck. That said, I am quite happy with the colony development / research / resource management / sector aspects of the game.

The AI is the biggest issue. Retarded war demands, a refusal to directly confront any of the end-game threats (scourge, AI consciousness, Unbidden), and ""guerilla warfare tactics"" that involve an inferior empire running fleets around until you finally corner one make most forms of diplomacy or war a nuisance or an extreme problem.
>>
>>149370415
>Any tips for a beginner?
I could probably write a paragraph here but really not feel like doing it now. Just play it a few times on 3rd or 4th difficulty(You won't learn anything on the first or second) and ask any questions you have here. A few things:
Ranged units are absolutely overpowered, if you feel like you're in danger in early game rush crossbows
Otherwise always rush for education techs
And if you're going for culture victory use theming bonuses. I learned theming bonuses pretty late but they're useful as hell

I actually really like Endless Space. The different races specialized in different aspects of the game's mechanics and play differently. Expansion is kept engaging with cold wars, allowing for empires to snatch up systems without irreversibly pissing off future potential allies.
Allies were quite nice as well, and from the games I played, AI players responded to threats appropriately. There were numerous games where I was a member of an unshakable alliance that stood against a massive galactic super-powers. Not too much backstabbing either, at least not by races that are predisposed towards warfare.
Tech descriptions are fun to read too. I felt a sense of technological progress from the early days of dangerous space travel and hardship to the technological marvels created hundreds of years later. It's all kinda fluff stuff, and all the techs are building upgrades that improve the stats of planets and fleets. Take that as you will.
UI is slick like the ice melting on your mom's pussy last night.
All the criticism is valid, but I personally don't find it breaks the game for me. 'Manual' combat in particular is quite boring, there isn't much of a difference just auto resolving.
I'd say it's worth buying when the whole bundle goes %25-50 off.

i really wish we would see more persistent campaign stuff. as much as i hate to say this ive been playing mordheim city of the damned and even though its a boring slow game with stupid mechanics i love so much the fact that my commander has a peg leg and one giant axe arm since he lost limbs and theyre actually there modeled. i think something like that on the scale of an rts/turn based game like an age of wonders/fallen enchantress or something would be really cool.

the main issue i have with playing a lot of 4x games at this point is they end up blurring together a bit and you can definitely run out of things to see if you arent playing with people. i think more skirmishy types of campaigns would help along with something to still work towards after a hundred hours or something. idk, maybe we should just talk about squad tactics games too at this point

>>
So, I hear Crystal Plating in Stellaris is pretty good. Exactly how good is it? Is it better than plain armor? What ships should I use it on?

I ask because I've managed to at least get it started, but I had the terrible luck to spawn with a Xenophobic FE on my borders, and they've already declared war on me once. I've gotten my two fleets to a strength comparable to theirs, but the majority of the fleet is still cruisers and destroyers, while the 12 or so battleships act as flagships, trying to keep the smaller ships alive while attacking at range with torpedoes/strike craft/Kinetic Artillery. The longer my destroyers and cruisers last, the better my odds for victory are going to be.

My "Charger-class" destroyers have armor modules to get them up to 25% damage reduction; is a base health boost better, or should I keep them armored?
They're armed with Autocannons in the front, with a medium Railgun in the back to give them some extra range; they're essentially sacrificial screens to get in close and draw their fire, shredding down their shields once they get close enough. They're going to die in droves, I just want to know how to keep them alive longer so they keep the fire off the cruisers and battleships longer.
>>
hey guys

Persistent campaign stuff?
I'm imagining something along the lines of a game "piece" for the virtual board of the game. Be that ships or such.
Which has been done to some degree, tough actual characters from the game-world acting as additional pieces could add a new layer to overall gameplay.

Skirmish campaign sounds interesting. Though I haven't a clue as to what you're envisioning.
>>
>>149386124
sure thing, but first tell us how the AI is getting ahead of you. Technology-wise? Colony-wise? Building fleets faster than you? Building fleets you always lose against?

If it's fleet-related, the solution is simple; research torps as soon as you get them, then equip them on every slot on your corvettes and destroyers. I've beaten AI fleets of equal strength with weapons three tiers ahead of me just by spamming basic Torpedo modules.
>>
>>149386145
basically, imagine youve got an overall plot or objective or whatever to work towards, but at the same time on the map you've got little side objectives and possibilities that are randomly generated that you can basically just play forever. itd basically be like jacking up the barb spawns on civ but not just random guys. maybe youd have to go get an artifact, maybe youd have to put down some peasants, maybe some foul demons or tainted creatures or rogue robots or whatever. a lot of 4x games have events but theyre usually either just percent changes to things or maybe some extra spawns. i guess think of endless legends quests but more of that, something that could possibly even make the game fun to do if it was just you on the map with no proper ai/human enemies selected. it would need an actual battle system though to really work, which might be an issue for some people
>>
>>149386708
Nah i usually always have either Equal or Superior Fleet Strength, but they seem to be like 5 - 10 Techs ahead of me every game.
also should i be like spamming Frontier Outposts early on? Because if i dont it seems like they always get massive leads in terms of systems controlled
>>
>>149387115
If you're friendly with them, trading research grants is a good way to make sure you keep up- you'll probably have to throw a little extra in to make them accept, but if you start early then it'll only be something like 200 Minerals or similar. That or go to war with them and salvage their debris to steal their tech.

Frontier outposts are essential early on, but you also have to be careful with them; you don't need too much influence early on, but you still can't afford to go negative, and you need to be able to eventually disband the frontier outposts, usually once you've built a colony in the same or a neighboring system. I like to try and build them in systems where they'll be harvesting resources from the system's sun, since that makes them either boost your research or negate their own maintenance costs (energy-wise, at least.)
>>
>>149387715
i feel like a fucking idiot, didnt even know u could disband the outpost.
Also the whole alliance/federation thing? is it worth joining the AIs or should i just stay out of them?
>>
>>149388019
Non-Aggression pacts are good if you're not in a position to go to war with them, but anything further like a Mutual-Defense agreement will drain Influence.
This is assuming you can reach a point where they're willing to ally with you in the first place; it's stupidly hard to break the thresholds needed for other empires to ally with you at all.
Add the fact that the AI will likely try and drag you into wars you're not equipped to deal with/can't get to because it's on the other end of the galaxy, and I'd say that right now, it's better to hold off on forming alliances.
>>
>>149385362

I'd imagine the goal of this system is to discourage the player from just taking everything over. Uncapturable cities (or their equivalent)? Probably too restrictive.
Maybe work that into the scenario. Fighting is held in higher regard than conquering, nations compete for objectives and in turn come into good fun conflict. Honorable fighting! With none of that messy raping and pillaging nonsense.
Doesn't have to be just fighting either.

Still wiating for eu4 or ck2 to be fixed. They've only been getting more broken and less about crusading and/or kings the more they get updated.
>>
>>149452362
A similiar process is going on, in that they are focusing on slowing down blobbing now. they patched a lot of the most glaring bugs, so now it's all about the wacky balance patches, and pushing out more DLC as soon as they can.
It still has the lack of stuff to do mid game, and it still has buggy end game menaces. It also needs d some more ways to achieve victory, for those people who like that. Victory conditions are part of 4x games different from grand strategy, which are usually more sandboxish.

Stack up on point defense and armor piercing weapons. The scourge is laughably easy to counter.

All of their weapons are missile or fighter based, so you can easy take on multiple fleets twice, or three times as large as your own if you're heavy on lances and point defense.

I would recommend making a move sooner rather than later since any world they touch becomes barren.

It's a better tactic than limiting it, this way they drive Pre-order sales and those that chose to wait for reviews will have 90 days to hear about it, and assuming it's good it will drive sales.

How the fuck are you supposed to expand your empire WITHOUT having to induct shitskin xenos into it?

Seriously, is purging the only way to do this? why the fuck does "Abandon planet" count as purging? shouldn't it mean "Mass deportation"?

I'm playing Fanatical Militarist/Spiritualist, and the only way i find to expand is to either just force them to cede, or vassalize and induct. The problem with both of those is that the FUCKING ASSHOLE SHITSKINS ARE INCLUDED AND I CANT GET RID OF THEM.

if anybody knows a mod that remedies this i'm all ears.
>>
>>149473460
>Abandon Planets counts as purging

Never understood this either
>>
>>149473460

Much like real life, mass deportation is essentially impossible to accomplish without mass death or suffering, then you've got the people who refuse to go, gotta use force on them.

Then you've got the issue of where they go, if nobody will accept them, you've gotta purge them or find a place to shove them.

So, your choices are fair I think, either you purge and you get to decide who's in your empire, you enslave and control people you don't want in your empire, or you force abandonment/mass deportation which in all respects is essentially an atrocity.

Generally speaking, other than pretty much genocidal destruction and conquering, no human cultures have successfully 'deported' entire populations without it turning into an atrocity.

However, I still think there should be a way for you to have some kind of negative migration attraction for xenos, and a one-way migration treaty with other empires who will take them.
>>
How do I get line breaks into an empire bio without string errors?
>>
>>149473460
Vassalizing and induction is a better choice then just ceding

when you liberate them they take your ethics, so when you do vassalize them and then eventually induct them, they integrate with no issue.

Ceding just takes the planet over, without changing the ethos of the inhabitants, enjoy your ethics divergence and uprisings.

So, guys: tell me about your Stellaris empire.

I'm currently playing as a sort of Hanseatic League in space, colonizing new worlds to expand the scope of the market and bring greater quality of life to my citizens.

I'm playing as mad assimilator, assimilating everyone I can.

Played Warlock: Master of the Arcane for about half an hour, why isn't this game more popular? It was like Civ V with fantasy/caricature graphics(better than VI :^)), a few new mechanics, that district mechanic and the early game actually had action, in Civ V even with raging barbs I didn't have to fight this much, though this could be simply because I got a shitty start or something like that

I mean, the game feels like it's a Civ V mod, but there are bunch of popular games that feel like a mod for another.

I also didn't like spellcasting system, it feels like it could be much better, but the game looks like it has potential

I can tell that you are doing it wrong just by looking at your fleet composition and naval capacity.

If you had brought a well-balanced 1k+ tachyon-lance BB fleet you might stand a chance.

With all that useless garbage you have on tow there in a 600 navcap fleet, you're pretty much fucked.

>>
>>149503270
Your naval capacity seems to be only 616. Build more spaceports to raise it to the 1k limit.
You can easily go above that limit, it will just cost some more minerals and energy.

Your fleet has tons of corvettes and destroyers.
Those are of very limited use in this stage of the game, they are little more than cannon fodder and they will likely not fire very often before they die.
You are better off using the naval capacity they take up to build battleships that actually take a few hits and, more importantly, shoot back with more tachyon lances while they take those hits.
>>
>>149503325

>>
>>149504182

>>
>>149503771
That really depends on what you dislike.

I really hate the stupidly tight influence gain limit, so I have a mod that allows me to build a really expensive building that generates influence.
It doesn't break the game by simply removing influence cost, but it speeds up the mid-game parts where you often just sit there looking at the influence counter tick up to allowi you the next action.

Then there's the beuatiful battles mods, the ship parts mods, and so on.

The game really needs a weapons rebalancing mod, but that will probably take until after the next patch.
>>
>>149484765
I actually liked the Shadow Bugs
pls dont hate
>>
>>149504105
>Is this a good battleship design?
No.

It has weapons that are not tachyon lances or point defense.
The best BB you can build in the standard game is
Bow: all lances
Center: all lances
Stern: all PD
This should result in a ship with 5 lances and 4 PD.
Cram in as many reactors as you need, fill the rest with Crystal Infused +HP armor if you have it.
If not, then your shield and reactor setup is good.

You should consider making special sub-classes for each of the specail modules. Not every ship in your fleet needs such a module. Their effect does not stack, so you just need one of each and the rest of your ships can use the energy for more shields or save the slots and add more crystal armor..

Medium weapons are not very good.
As soon as you get lances, you should stop using so many torps and missiles.
I am nt sure if there is any reason to actually use bombers. Fighters seem to deal the same damage, and I think they intercept enemy smallcraft and missiles.
I am unsure if using fighters at all is a good plan, or if more lances are the better option.

UNSC, started off innocent enough with first contact being with a race of incredibly friendly, if rather repulsive, bird-people. There were several squabbles over territory early on, but overall relations remained good; we were essentially friendly rivals for the first fifty years of the game, before either of us made contact with any other races.

Then we encountered a new race on our other border. They were an ancient, stagnant race, hating any and all other species, and threatening force if we did not give them space.

We could not; our colonies were already settled, and the Beltharian stores in those systems were too essential for us to let them go. Our first war could well have been our last, had we not surrendered early on. The humiliation stunted our growth for almost a decade, as we finally entered the Galactic stage by discovering the other races of the galaxy.
Another neighbor did not care for us; they were gearing up to assault our systems for a "holy crusade" when one of our other allies went to war with them. Wanting to aid our ally, and recover some semblance of our pride, we built our fleets anew, and went to war.
Our victory was swift and total. The first engagement and the only one where they were on equal footing, they had weaponry three times as advanced as ours. But our torpedoes pierced their shields with ease, and though we paid dearly for the victory, a victory it was, and our shipyards were already at work replacing our losses. We split their empire in half, taking their capital planet and the surrounding colonies for our own, desperate for resources and staging areas to help us prepare to fight the monolithic Empire once more...
But our savagery, our brutal efficiency in the art of killing shook those who had been our friends, our allies... Suddenly we were outcasts, finding ourselves feared by those who had been close. Our oldest friends, our most stalwart friends, the bird-people... they never forgave us.

City placement was perfect. Shaka couldn't break through exactly because of my city placement. What I didn't plan on was Genghis and Wu literally not settling a single city past that point and letting Shaka settle all the way to the other side of the continent using the narrowest of corridors between mountains and impassable jungles. It was just a bad game. There wasn't much I could do. If I didn't forward settle Shaka early he would have bypassed my only possible bottleneck and surrounded me that much quicker.

One thing I could work on though is my economy. In CBP there is a horrendous lack of gold early on. A lot more luxuries produce food, hammers, and culture instead of gold. The only thing really netting me any gold was founding new cities which thanks to one of the Progress policies yields +4 gold on city tiles. If my economy wasn't shit I would have gotten spearmen earlier to maybe fend off the swordsmen he magically teleported to the opposite side of the map.
>>
>>149539930
Genghis and Wu. Also paying civs to go to war for you was severely nerfed in CBP. Basically they have to be your ally and they have to be stronger than the nation you are paying them to go to war with.

except units suffer a huge combat decrease if they're embarked. so if you settled by the coast, and positioned units along the land tiles, you wouldnt have even suffered casualties. and too much production, not enough gold, can be mitigated by gold production, or just by not forward settling like crazy.

Cities have very little punch in CBP and the the embarkation penalty means little if a single swordsman can take out 1/3 of a cities health in one turn before I ever got a chance to hit it. Because of where I placed the city Shaka was forced to move his units one tile at a time while three slingers on untouchable on top of mountains slowly whittled them away.

The coast wasn't an option. I later settled another city on the coast and exactly what I described happened.

You can't throw production into gold that early on and settling new cities like crazy was literally my only source of income thanks to a policy that produces gold on city tiles. There was no decent gold tile yields on my entire sub continent.

It simply was a bad map. Shaka spawned in the heart of the mountains I needed in the long game and right next to the only choke point I could have ever used against him.

You don't know what you are talking about. But if you want to backseat play so bad by all means imagine what you would have done and how it would have all gone perfectly because Shaka wouldn't have developed embarkation or the Mongolians would have settled more having seen your amazing city placement right next to the inland sea that Shaka could fill with units at a moments notice.

Moreover, I wish that it wasn't so easy to accidentally become perma-enemies; if their opinion drops too low, like it does after you fight a war of aggression, they will then rival you, which will then completely destroy any hope of ever recovering relations with them forever, because anything that would improve relations gets denied because they're rivals.

We'd been friends since the start, had 100 Trust with them and everything, just slowly trying to creep it up enough for them to accept an alliance, but I got involved in one war and it's fuck you, they now hate you forever and ever and there's not a thing in the fucking world you can do to change it.

It's like they actively encourage you to say "fuck it, I'll just conquer everyone," because the political system is just one instance after another of "Oh, you want to start an alliance? Have a -50 modifier! And just because, we're throwing in a -20 modifier too!" Because the influence drain of actually holding an Alliance with just one nation, never mind multiple empires, isn't enough of a regulation for alliance-creation.
>>
>>149542058
what are you on about? My point this entire time has been that your city could have been in a better spot. Your objections are noted, but the ultimate fact of the matter is that, viable or not, your city was not in an ideal location.

That is all I am telling you.
The city was not optimally located.
>>
>>149542201
Sorry, I thought I made it clear. I couldn't place it on the sea because Shaka could take the city easily. Cities fall like dominoes early game in CBP without walls and Shaka wouldn't politely wait for me to develop and build walls. The embarkation penalty makes them a lot easier to kill but not if they can sail three tiles and hit my city before any of my units had a chance of getting some shots in, not to mention the triremes that later came.

That was Shaka's sea. I didn't dare put a city on there.

In retrospect though, I might have tried Tradition and JUST settled the cities near the choke point. Tradition gives you a gold specialist early... but then I wouldn't have been able to get the culture and faith boost from the Grand Mesa on the other side of the continent.

And I still would have had the same problem of Shaka enveloping me though because of Mongolia and China not settling any cities.

Scourge seem to keep slacking off in this version. They are more numerous, but tachyon lances are still overpowered as fuck.
>>
>>149597728
I never understood why Tachyons are called OP while arc emitters are entirely ignored. Arc emitters deal much more damage consistently overall directly to the hull than tachyons because they go through shields as well. By the time a tachyon chews through shields, arc emitters have already dealt tons of damage on the hull.
>>
>>149598059
Maybe you are right, but by the time you have tachyons, you don't even need to bother with anything else, because nothing lives long enough to come in their firing range.

So, how would we go about trying to fix the weapon-usefulness in Stellaris? By which I mean, how do we make builds that aren't Largeslots+token PD slots viable for shipbuilding?
I would think that making it so that each type of slot is better against different types of vessels would be the simplest way- making small module weaponry good against small vessels like Corvettes, while large weaponry is better at dealing with things like Battleships and Cruisers. It's already somewhat implemented with Evasion and smaller modules being more accurate, but it's clearly not enough.
Maybe what's needed is to remove the varied effective ranges- that is, make it so that small modules have the same effective range as large modules, with higher accuracy but lower damage. Make exceptions for weapons like Torpedoes and Missiles where accuracy is always 100%. Maybe make it so that larger weapons fire more slowly, too; you nuke whatever you're shooting, but if there's a swarm of smaller vessels you won't be able to kill them fast enough before they wear you down.

That, and probably buffing the late-game weaponry choices that aren't Talcyon Lances in order to give you a reason to choose something like Kinetic Artillery.

Or do you think it's working as intended, and that having all-talcyon lance battleship fleets as the only viable strategy is a perfectly valid design choice?
>>
>>149603241
Buff lances' damage but debuff their fire rate. Make their dps extremely low, but allow them to be a powerful opening volley that would thin enemy fleet before it approach.

Artillery is moonlighting as point defence and I think it has splash damage, but I didn't get a chance to check it.
>>
>>149605272
I think you mean Flak Batteries. Kinetic Artillery has the same range as Talcyons and a faster firerate, but a slightly lower accuracy and, to my knowledge, no special effects like armor penetration or extra damage to shields.

4. Why would you ever pick Pacifist in a game where warmongering is the only way to win?

7. Why am I still playing this piece of shit game that gets boring once you've expanded into everyone else?

>>149619978
>Monument to Purity is nice, but does the sector AI autobuild them?
Nope, and it will automatically remove any pops currently working it to any other tile, even if that fucks over the whole planet's happiness- because if it's not minerals, energy, or research, the Sector AI don't give a shit about it.
>why do Kinetic Weapons even exist?
Because Sir Isaac Newton is the deadliest son of a bitch in space. The real question is why they only half-assed their attempts to fix them, overlooking the part that actually mattered- Kinetic Artillery. Every other kinetic weapon gets bonuses against shields, but not the biggest kinetics around. It's bullshit.
>Why am I still playing this piece of shit game?
I don't know; if I did, I'd have quit by now. I think it's because the game has the makings of being good, it's just that right now it's only got the skeleton down, when it should have already been fleshed out.

>Someplace, somewhere, somebody or something is engaged in warfare where they are firing missiles that spawn galaxies at each other
>your entire game is played on a warhead on it's way to it's target
>the existence of your race and all other races are unknowingly fueling this warhead
>The Unbidden are essentially this being's form of Point-Defense, trying to remove what powers it by conquering it's galaxy
>>
>>149626178
Does it says investigate or survey?
>>
>>149626178
Step 1: Track on map.
Step 2: Select Science ship
Step 3: right-click on indicated system.
If no "research projects in system" choice comes up, your mission is probably bugged.
>>
>>149603241
Well, the best way to do this is to simply give a accuracy debuff for non missile weapons when shooting at a ship smaller than it's intended target.

The thing is with the lower accuracy for larger weapons is that the accuracy is equal against all sizes so you don't as miss a corvette as much as a battleship ignoring evasion ofc. Unless there is a hidden stat somewhere
>>
>>149626647
It would seem the simplest way to do that would be to buff Evasion; not to it's game-breaking power when the game first came out and torp-vettes were the meta fleet comp, but enough so that corvettes could still be useful.
>>
>>149627373
True, I think they reduced the evasion bonuses from combat computers so what, to 40-50ish?
>>
>>149627901
No, I think they imposed a maximum cap of 45% evasion or something. Or maybe you're right, I can't remember at the moment.

Does everyone actually have problems playing Space America?

>federation research bonuses
>everyone is too scared to attack you
>liberate empires that get too big and get another ally
>occasionally expand, if I even need to, by pissing off a neighbor enough so they leave the federation/vote kicking them
>immigration treaties let everyone flee the planets they don't like to the other side of the galaxy
>just plop down integration campaigns with all my influence to end dissenters that don't leave
>genetically modify any cultural diversity that doesn't fit into my current agenda
>>
>>149632837
I never bothered with purging. I have so much -% ethic divergence that everyone just converts to my thinking
>>
Is there an easier way to get your armies to heal? Having to micromanage individual units out and in of a planet since the planet is too small to support them all is suffering.
>>
>didn't take the advanced government forms the first time it popped up

just click on the government icon when you go into the tab where it shows your current ruler.

Random technologies system is great, isn't it?
>>
>>149640915
It really is, though. It keeps things interesting so that you can't fall into the same patterns every single playthrough, and makes you actually have to choose carefully what you want, because the other choices might not come up again.
I admit it's frustrating when you can't get the one tech you really want to show up, but it can make things more interesting as you have to compensate, like using Kinetic Artillery because Talcyons refuse to show up for you.

>decide to finally try Stellaris
>start new game
>research colonisation tech and other techs
>survey neighbouring planets and systems
>claim and mine systems/planets with resources
>build colony ship to colonise other planets
>constantly upgrading tiles back at home planet

So is this just the game? Rinse and repeat?

Obviously there will be space politics and warfare later, but the core of the game seems fairly boring and empty desu. At least in other Paradox games there are complicated historical event chains adding flavour and driving progress (eg, 30YW or Revolutionary War in EU4, ACW in Vicky 2, Crusades or Mongol invasions in CK2, Rhineland/Anschluss/Sudetenland/etc in HOI).
>>
>>149663776
You're supposed to build sectors to not micromanage everything (remember how you gave tiles in CKII to trusted nobles), but the AI is too dumb to expand properly
>>
>>149663776
pretty much.

They need to add a culture mechanic where etho's spread to different planets, would be a nice way to implement conflict and tension.
>>
>>149663896
>You're supposed to use the retarded sector AI
>When AI empires don't even use the sector system
Yeah, no. Increasing the planet limit and leader limit is the only logical choice
>>
>>149664053
Nigga please. I know what I'm doing.
>>
>>149663896
I thought it was only beneficial to do that once I hit the planet limit. Like the demesne limit in CK2.

>>149663914
Yeah would be pretty good, but I just feel like the game is missing proper development. Like Vicky 2 is about the progression from monarchies to republics to fascism/communism driven by industrialism, and EU4 is about the progression from the Medieval period through the Renaissance to almost modern times, encompassing colonisation and the Reformation. Stellaris is just the same thing from day 1 to the end, except that your empire is slightly larger.

How come Civ V seems to be the universally preferred game here in /4xg/? It's unplayably annoying to me coming as a newbie Civ IV (80-ish hours) player

The graphics, interface etc. all reek of overdesigned and completely nonfunctional garbage that only morons could have designed and greenlit

Especially being unable to manually change keybindings. That pisses me off greatly. Having to use AHK to get wasd to be panning buttons is unacceptable.
I already use vim, I refuse to fucking learn another key layout system for a fucking TURN-BASED game, and using the mouse for everything is ridiculously unergonomic when I have an entire other hand ready to rock but only useful for jerking off without customized keybinds
