Ok so, here's the gist of our Space Jam game
>play as astronaut
>crash land onto alien planet
>ship broken (unlike pic related)
>have to retrieve the ship's parts from around the crash site
>have to sneak past alien beasts
>have to get back to your ship (with or without ship parts) by night since the temperature drops
As you might notice, we took inspiration from pikmin at least in part.
We're still unsure whether to have/how to handle combat though. One option would be to have a gun that you can only recharge by the ship so you can't just shoot down anything in your path.

Need help with making a lever like in webm related but instead of going up and down I want it to rotate up and down. I can actually rotate it with the mouse like it should, but my problem is to restrict that rotation to the upper and lower bounds of the lever.

I'm familiar with quaternions, but clearly not enough to restrict them.

I tried to do it with eulerangles at first but then the X acis's rotation goes from 270 to 300 then back down, which makes it way to crazy to try and work with.

Basically I want the player to be able to rotate the lever up and down and if he releases it high or low enough it will clamp to that bound.

When I gave up MMORPGs I suddenly had more time than I knew what to do with. The only game I really play these days would be hearthstone every 3 days to do my daily quests. I'll also marathon a single player game if I'm really interested in it. No more grinding for gear or any kind of time sink games though. Getting sleep and exercise also helps. Not wasting all day on 4chan helps too. The thing that I find helps the most though is when my Internet goes out for a while. I get an incredible amount of work done.

MUTEKI dev here.

I've ironed out some edge cases of ship welding in preparation for a possible Space Jam lightning build. That said, I realize my webms of this particular mechanic are so far boring as shit so I won't impose that on you guys again until it's actually ready.

Instead, have a design sketch of my game's notional MC. She is a robot spaceship captain. All of the spaceship captains in this game are either cute girl robots or cool mecha robots. I'm not sure what level of interaction you'll have with them apart from ship maiming and bullying.

I don't consider myself a good artist so I'm going to have to look for someone to help me with the final art.

I don't think I'm going to make it. Since I started this morning I got the movement started but I spent the rest of my time with the text stuff. I copied a tutorial but fucked up big time and spent the whole time racking my brain over what could be going wrong. It turns out its because I didn't have a view set in my room and the tutorial guy had, and this was fucking up one calculation that fucked up another that stopped an if statement from working. Never going to make it and I only just started today. All that smile and optimism gone. Oh well I guess I'll work on some gameplay next.

There's an industry of books for gamedev, many video resources, exercises, whatever your heart desires, just google it. You go to school to get a deadline and be forced into a good working pace as most people don't have the discipline.

You play as a woman against another random woman, think of it like Punch-Out, going through different opponents like that.
The objective in each "round" is to see who can un-birth their son the fastest. The audience is made up of a whole bunch of people who don't want to see it and you can perform certain tricks to get bonus points (gained by the different kind of reactions of people in the crowd, vomiting, running away screaming, gouging their own eyes, suicides).
So ultimately, who has the more points at the end and survives the process. You have to survive, but sometimes the AI kills herself and you win by default (low chance).

I think it's might be just different, easier or harder depends on the type of art you're trying to achieve exactly but anything should be doable with both. They're all different. For most game jams they wont announce a theme until the jam starts, then you will have X amount of time to finish a game with that theme.

I want to code a basic interpreter / scripting language.

Like basically each line of the script is an opcode on 32 bits and the interpreter will read by default one opcode after the other (so one line after the other), except if there's a jump or something like that.
I also want to be able to store values (like int), on any given line, and read it later...

for instance my program input before converted to opcodes would be:

line 1 - STORE 349 (ie store a value here)
line 2 - INCR 1 (increment adress 1 by 1)
line 3 - PRINT 1 (print what is at adress 1)
line 4 - GOTO 2

In this possible? isn't there a really simple language that is exactly like that that I could look up? What I'm unsure how to do is how to store commands on 32 bits and values on 32 bits in the same adress space

Did a simple graphic for the possession circle and a visual sound indicator for when moving. It's simple but I'm happy to have some progress.
Also added a walk function that makes you silent (the indicator is still there but small so you can easily see yourself when things eventually get busy in the level.

But in the instance of a game object, wouldn't this not be pixel perfect? What if the game object has gravity? What if the game object moves x.x pixels per frame? With just checking for that, then there might be space inbetween the game object and the world/thing it is colliding with, or it might be stuck inside it.

What would you do? Do you run a thing at the beginning of the frame to calculate any world near it and get the nearest pixel in each direction, so that when a collision happens you can set your offset to said pixels? That's all I can think of.

There are two kinds of design documents:

Technical design
and
Game design aka ideas.txt

The first one doesn't matter for the average 1MA since it's mostly for coordinating a team and making sure things are compatible.
The second one I personally think is quite important, my current project is way too big to keep all in my head.
In the end it's all personal preference but I like it.
