>>

The Anaconda is the best explorer ship in the game if you have no budget.

As in, money to outfit a spare Anaconda for exploration.
>>
>>149224000
The ASP is the best explorer if you're low on budget though.
>>
>>149224309

>>149223942
I find this very stupid. Why waste millions on credits on a Corvette when a competent Volture or even a Viper can run around it in circles and ass blast it? It's like tank against motorcycles, no matter how skilled one might be with one they shouldn't be able to even dent the hull.
>>
>>149226043
To poorly quote ftroop:
"We don't want people who have large ships to be indestructible by people who don't"

And to paraphrase that: "We want dads to stand a chance [in their Cobra MkIII]"
Also, do you know why the Dadbra has the fastest boost speed (if you don't count iEagle)?

But yes. It is a bit stupid that hugeass ships don't have passive defence against tiny ships, in the form of really strong shields or something. But because getting an A graded Conda takes roughly 150 hours of playing (without Sothis, mind you. With Sothis it's probably around 45 from the second you start) it would just cause people to fly large ships and nobody would even bother with 80% of the ships in game.
>>
>>149226536
>>149226043
I think it makes a lot of sense. You're not supposed to 1v1 in any of the large ships. They're meant to be played with fighter bros on your wing.
>>
>>149226990
If only we could have that level of interactivity with players. Imagine if there was a grouping/matchamking possibility.
A mission:
>A pirate lord on the loose!
>He has been seen flying a Conda
>Accept mission
>Starport would have an option: Look for wingmates, specify need for wingmates, specify price you would pay them (optional).
>>
>>149226990
The problem is that it's actually very easy to 1v1 a decently fitted Anaconda/Corvette with a Volture.
>>
>>149227354
Exactly, his point was that it would make sense that large ships should be unbeatable in 1v1 by small ships.
>>

Now I remember why I don't take fucking missions at all. I have no idea what to do. They tell me I can find them in X system but this shit is gigantic how do I know where to look?
>>
>>149226536
>ships don't have passive defence against tiny ships
But they do, smaller ships are limited to smaller hardpoints witch do less damage to larger ships. The vulture, however, breaks that mold hard by mounting large weapons though.
>>
>>149227732
Is there a Nav Beacon? Go scan it, will tell you precisely where to go look for it.
Otherwise the mission icon tells you it is a planetary mission, so:
>Land on planet
>Get that SRV going
>Find loot
>If you roll double sixes it will Structural Regulators.
>>
>spend several hours looking for last 3 mats for engie mod
>1 quest reward mat, 2 uss mats
>nothing found, no progress made in an entire evening

why is this allowed?
>>
>>149228589
Not everything in life always goes to plan. Don't be an entitled millennial wanting instant gratification and everything just given to you!

Fly safe CMDR o7
>>
>>149227427
>>149227354
Actually my argument is that it's perfectly fine vultures (and whatever else) can 1v1 corvettes, or at least it would be if the game worked as it clearly intends for you to play it. That is to say, fdev clearly want big ships to be glass cannons, not fortresses, and they want them flanked by wingmen in fighters to fight off the vultures and whatnot. Problem is we've got hardly any of the systems in place for that kind of gameplay to occur naturally. We need fighter bays, parasite fighters, guilds, stuff like >>149227228 mentioned, and a host of other stuff implemented. As it is now, they're all just big bullseyes.
>>
>>149229340
What are you even saying? Vultures, Vipers even Cobras can fuck Condas and Corvettes up without the need of those systems you mention.
>>
>>149229792

Condas and Corvettes need those systems, not the small ships. Reading comprehension.

>>149228029

That's the one thing I hate about the salvage missions. Even with the scan telling you what planet to go to, it's obvious as fuck that you have to fly around the planet for a random amount of time before the mission objective spawns.
>>
>>149231785

I got it up to 607 after boosting and then turning off the engines.

When I finish grinding for my current engie mod I'm gonna load a 404t cargo conda with shit and do the same
>>
>>149228589

I spent days looking for the mission reward mats I needed. I actually have most of them but I'm just tired of looking and having to carry shit in my cargo bay that I wont need unless I have the mats that NEVER FUCKING SHOW UP ANYWHERE EVER.

The engi "fix" that's coming probably wont help at all. It'll probably just make it worse.
>>
>>149227732

Stupid option: Just drift through the system looking for degraded or encoded signal sources. There is a small chance that any one of them will have your mission objective.

Smart option: Drop into the nav beacon and passive scan it, or if you have a discovery scanner nevermind the beacon and just honk it. You will be told where to look. Get within 0.5ls of the planet specified and drift looking for signal sources. In this case it's much more likely to show up and will even be identified as your mission objective before you even drop into it.
>>
>>149231907

500 was pretty much the limit around the beta/release of horizons because of a soft cap on velocity. You couldn't push anything much further than that regardless of circumstances because of exponentially diminishing returns on speed.

That cap has since been relaxed so I'm curious to know what sort of terminal velocity a T9 can reach now.

I don't think it will happen but if they actually add walking on stations, ships and first person shooting, they'll have to re-model pretty much everything. Most of it looks great on a distance but as soon as you get close it has the look of a PS2 model.
>>

And that is the reason why this game runs so well. And that is why I don't care about walking around shit.
I can get immersed enough sitting on my poopstool in my cockpit and just looking around.
>>
>>149244680
True, the game is much less in need of more half-baked, buggy, grindy, shitty features than it is an expansion of the core game mechanics. I wish they'd just take a few patches to flesh out and give more purpose to the main professions, instead of tacking on more shit that no one wants.

Purpose, not much without player guilds and expansion. They could vastly improve gameplay with added mechanics though.

Imagine if exploration was more than honking, and paid decently.

>>149247476
Cobra is the only option of the ones you listed. You'll want to A-rate the FSD and get an advanced discovery scanner.
>>
>>149250661
Sothis runs.

>>149247791
Not him. I'd like more immersion stuff. Like, say, an assassination mission where they're on the surface of a planet, and when you get in range they try to rush their SRV to their ship, you could destroy the ship and try to shoot the SRV in the air as he flees, destroy the ship then land and have a SRV fight, cripple the ship and wait for him to board to finish it off, or let him board and dogfight him. It'd just be nice to have more variety.
>>
>>149251325
Sothis doesn't do shit for ranks. I'm better off doing regular missions. I want systems like Shu Babassi 'm shiet.

>>
>>149284165

Storage would still be nice. I hate having to swap for D rate modules and sell weapons to increase jump range if I have to travel, and then hoping there's a high tech system somewhere so I can rebuy my modules. It'd be a lot easier if you could pack modules in your ship to ferry them with you.

Module storage is incoming, along with the ability to transfer ships between stations without having to manually fly there, and some form of hiring NPC pilots. It's all listed in the new journal thing coming with 2.2. Also it looks like Powerplay is getting a little love in the near future, some kind of voting system is being implemented, presumably to give players more influence over what their power does and reduce the effects of 5c activities.

In fairness, the presence of multiplayer isn't an excuse for the grindy nature of ED. The reason for that is simple: FD is as out of touch as it is incompetent.

Camera is recorded from the aggressors perspective, theyre a bunch of dumb roleplayers pretending to be the authority in space and scanning people and interdicting them for investigation, and a dude is not having it

Asp will be better for getting you to places. Nimbler, longer range. Python is the better combat ship, and has better internals.

I don't think it'll be enough though. I'm looking at the changes and they look great, but it doesn't change the fact that engineers is still tedious as fuck and doesn't do anything other than give your ship percentage upgrades. They make the overall grind go by faster so you can grind more in less time.

I really am holding out for a BGS update and Powerplay revamp. What this game needs is more ways to influence the galaxy, and not simply changing flavortext on the system status screen or changing colors on the galaxy map.

Why can't they just change the recipes and roll out a hotfix now instead of rolling it out with all these other changes that take way more time and effort like surface scanners telling you exactly and how much, leading to their timeframe being "we'll give you a timeframe within the next couple weeks" meaning it could be months from now? Why does fdev have to needlessly complicate things that would make players happy in the present?

I mean, I'm glad it's coming, I really am, and I don't mean to shit all over a good thing, but there's no reason to bundle changing a few items and quantities around with all that other stuff.

FAS has stronger thrusters than the FDL.
Think of it like this, the FDL likes to fight in lines, the FAS likes to fight in circles, and ram when it can.
>>
>>149319775

The FAS is slightly more maneuverable than the FDL, Before the FDL got its maneuverability buff the FAS was significantly more maneuverable. Its lateral thrust game is still significantly better than the FDL's though.

One thing that isn't really covered on paper is how the FAS retains a lot of its maneuverability outside the blue zone on the throttle.

>>
I hear frag cannons are OP with the inf ammo, that true?
>>
>>149327052

Extremely, probably 100%. Never seen one outright miss. They do have magazines though, so they can be overwhelmed by massive spam. Luckily their reload time is automated and pretty short. They also carry a fuckload of ammo. One is enough for most ships, two or three will be enough for the largest ships, in different spots to cover several angles.

Beware that they cannot shoot down torpedoes. (I think)There may also be engineer mods for missiles to make them more resistant to hits from point defences. Not sure of this either. I do know however that you can purchase special missile launchers from a pledging to a power, that fires multiple missiles at once, making a hit more likely.

Still a challenge to get through a PD, though. Absolutely worth to put one or two on any ship you might be shot at in. Plus, they shoot green lasers which look and sound really awesome, especially if they're shooting at mines in front of you.

>>149335308

Google is your friend, but I'll start you off with some spoonfeeding:

Engineers can modify your modules. To locate your available engineers, there should be a button on the first page of the right hand side.

Each engineer specialises in a certain module, i.e. thrusters/fsd, shields and so on. Engineers require materials, both found from destroying ships and from prospecting, as well as data gleaned from scanning ships/shipwrecks/points of interest. Materials and data can also be used as mission rewards. You go to an engineer, fulfill various requirements to gain access, find out what they need for the mod you want, you go get that shit and then come back to spin the RNG wheel.

This is of course Horizons only :^)

Oh, and we're due for a substantial overhaul of the amount of data and materials needed for mods. Most (all?) material requirements will be removed to make mods accessible to other than autists, and because it's such a bitch flying around with random engie cargo and getting interdicted all the fucking time. Not to mention that getting all the shit you need takes ages, with the possibility of being pissed away if you get bad RNG when you apply the mod. The rebalance is coming in 2~ weeks.

Suffice to say the data you just found is just a very small piece of a (as for now) giant puzzle.
>>
Will the missile launchers the chinese dude offer be available for me forever as soon as I reach rank 3? Even if I leave his faction?
>>
>>149336236

No. You could always "store" a few by selling them at an appropriate station, buying and switching to an appropriate "storage" ship and rebuying them for that ship. That way at least the ones you have "stored" will be available.
>>
So there's no point in doing any Engineer shit right now since they'll update material requirements soon?
>>
>>149336912

You could spend the time collecting mats and data. There are also alternate ways to level up your engineers. Acquiring mods increases your "standing" with them, which opens up access to more complex mods. However, some engineers can also be leveled up by for example delivering exploration data, like the Farseer engineer. This is much more preferable (and easier!) than grinding out data and mats for low level mods you don't want just to get access to the better ones.

I've done a level 3 dirty drive (increased thruster speed) already, but looking at the preliminary updated req. list (posted earlier in the thread) I'm not gonna do more until the update.

I heard it works in the same way as Wings, so you are limited to 4 people. All 4 in one ship or split up in some way.
Pilot, weapons, System, navigation is the 4 roles, and apparently they say your ship does receive some kind of bonus. The way i heard the bonus described was
"A wing of 4 pilots vs a ship with 4 pilots in it would be an even fight"
>>
>>149344539
I wonder how they're going to handle getting everyone into the ship. Will you all need to be in the same place, or will it be an option in the game menu to join a crew?

Also, it would be kinda cool if you could volunteer your ship for some kind of f2p multicrew system, so people who are on the fence about the game could try it out as a crew member on an established player's ship before decided not to buy it.
>>
>>149343657
Doesn't look too different to me. I'm not an anti-NMS pro-ED circlejerker, just being honest.

>>
>>149344219

>>
>>149336912
Yeah, just wait. It's about to become way easier to grind Engineers shit in the next couple weeks. Just grind dosh until then.
>>
>>149324349
Pretty much. You grind up enough money to get into whichever ship you want, get it decked out in Engineer upgrades, and then you have a few options:

If you like the PvE side of things, you can get into Powerplay if you don't mind grinding a lot and like large-scale strategy. PP also sometimes presents some decent PvP opportunities.

You can also get into working the BGS with a player group, pushing a minor in-game faction and fucking with others. This option is pretty much pure PvE.

Or you can join a PvP group, or just go solo, and go around fighting other players all day for fun.

You can participate in the game's overarching """""plot""""" by working for weekly community goals, which are a decent way to make money and meet other players.

If you're an autistic RP fag, you can join a group like Canonn and help with investigating the current """"""mystery"""""" surrounding the unknown artifacts, meta alloys, and the impending ayyy lmao invasion.

The bulk of the end game involves coming here to complain and dadpost after you get bored of playing.

Do you find the combat fun? I can play repetitive games like Mount & Blade for hours just because it's way too fund to stab enemies with spears.

Also, if one does buy the game, I guess you need that season pass/expansion thing as well?

Finally, to what degree does the game have real money cash shops (e.g. pay dollars for ingame currency) ?

So, months from now?
>>
>>149343657

>>
>>149350526
Actually Mount and Blade is a pretty good point of comparison for this game. The bulk of what you do is go around working for various power groups, increasing your standing with them, which then nets you more difficult and high paying work. You can't ever become a "king" yourself, though, but you can work to influence who is in charge of a space station/system, as well as ranking up in the Federal/Imperial navies.

Combat is very comfy, probably one of the main selling points of the game. Ships feel weighty and the controls are just detailed enough that there's a reasonably high skill cap.

There is a cosmetics-only cash shop.

You don't need the expansion right away, you'll have access to everything except landing on planets and the new Engineers crafting system without it. I'd recommend starting with the base game, seeing if it can hold your attention for a bit, and then buying Horizons if you like it. There are still three more patches to come before Horizons is complete, including ship-launched fighters, some kind of passenger game play, multicrewed ships, an avatar creator, and the secret final update, along with more QoL updates to the base game.

eve online player here. someone just posted this about e:d in our thread >>149371862

is this true? i know people exaggerate and show bias but i'm curious how you would have described the situation. did the devs overstep their bounds in either case? were the players doing unreasonable and broken things within the e:d universe, or were they just playing with the tools given them and got silenced by the community/devs?
>>
>>149372996
Short answer: Yes its true.

Frontier is literally the most incompetent developer in the space game genre. If EVE had combat like E:D I'd be playing it.
>>
>>149372996
Exaggerated but mostly true.

Game is about nothing but hauling cargo. You can see other players in Open, but there is also private group mode (what they explain as corp, inaccurate comparison) and solo mode so old fogies who want to pretend it's still 1984 don't get their feelings hurt by pirate players. The devs did pull the lockdown, which was major bullshit, but no one got warned, and they apologized for their decision. Since then we've UA bombed (locked down the station's market and such) which is less effective but still an annoyance.
>>
>>149372996
does Eve have smuggling, trading, mining, policing, bounty hunting and piracy?

I tried Eve, but couldnt get over the way you fly/combat in the game. It sort of made sense with dreadnoughts and larger ships that couldnt really pilot the same way as fighter craft but not for the starter ship
>>
>>149372996

The players used functions/methods completely in line with mechanics and rules, but those mechanics shouldn't have been able to affect the community goals in such a way anyway. It would have meant a complete lockdown of all later cgs, since what they did is relatively simple to do for a group. Shutting down all cgs in such a way would have caused huge and lasting forum butthurt, and put """muh emerging story""" at risk. The devs clearly overstepped, but I kinda see why. Better deal with it in a shitty way now, or not at all.

Besides, the people who shut the community goal down did it for faggy "muh rp" reasons anyway, so fuck 'em.
>>
>>149374047
Yes EVE has that stuff.

And the idea is that all the ships, even the smallest ones, are large enough that normally they require multiple people to crew, but you can do it yourself because you're special and hook up your neurological network to the ship to literally control all of it with your mind, so you don't need a crew.
>>
>>149370228

>>149374047
>trading
yes; i don't know how the ed markets are set up but in eve it's more or less a free market (people set their own prices and you buy it if it's worth it to you) and nothing teleports - if you buy something somewhere, someone had to carry it there and put it up for sale. margin traders give the economy liquidity by allowing people to sell instantly to their (lowish) buy orders and allowing people to buy instantly to their (highish) sell orders. If you don't like giving traders your money and don't mind spending some time to move stock, you can set up your own buy and sell orders.

>smuggling
yes; the fact that things don't teleport means carrying something to where it's scarce and selling it for more than you bought it makes HUGE DOSH. The seller can be attacked at any point during their trip, so he spends a good deal of time thinking about how to become either be very difficult to catch or make it not worth pirates' time to pop him. there is plenty of gameplay in the defense and offense here.

>mining
yes; it's a new player trap because it makes quick early money but plateaus hard a couple of months in because there aren't many skills to train or strategies to pursue to make it better. it DOES scale AMAZINGLY with more accounts (which also introduces more strategy). it's a multiboxer / industrialist activity and fits that niche well, but it's not for new players.

>policing
not sure what you mean here, explain?

>bounty hunting
if you mean hunting notorious players with a price on their head that other people set and that you get when you kill them, no, it's not a viable occupation (because the naive implementation means you could kill yourself with an alt and collect your enemies' money, and all workarounds come up with or tried have nerfed payouts significantly). if you mean hunting npc's for money, yes, people do this all day long.

i'll put piracy in another reply
>>
>>149375557
It's a shame because all that sounds fun, but at the end if the day it's still spreadsheets in space. There's no visceral feedback or twitch reaction. I couldn't stand it after seven or eight months, I gotta feel my ship, and setting orbit flights around enemies then clicking a few guns and letting them automatically fire just doesn't come close to cutting it.

>piracy
yes; you have to define piracy clearly to answer this well and i'm not sure how you define it, but this is mine: "initiating combat with another player who doesn't want to fight". under this definition, ALMOST ALL COMBAT in eve is piracy. combat in eve is pretty much half mind games.

look at a 1v1 to start with. take any two ships in the game, fit them with their "normal" loadouts, and assume they are being flown by people with reasonable motor skills and an understanding of what their ship can do. almost always, you can pick the winner of a fight like this based on which two ships are participating and everyone knows this. this means that the loser has no reason to engage the winner. the fight will only take place if the winner has a way of forcing the loser to fight against his will (there are many mechanics that do exactly that, and there are ways of countering those mechanics too). this would be piracy, under my definition.

but this only looks at the surface. maybe one of the ships isn't fit "normally", maybe it's fit with a super meme loadout that now does one thing very well that that ship doesn't often do. its pilot knows this, and knows how this changes who he can fight. his opponents don't know this, so they engage him expecting to crush him and instead get crushed.

say he does this often, and loses several of these meme-fit ships. his lossmails (showing his fit) show up on public killboards that anyone who knows his name can check. now someone thinking about engaging him has to decide which way he's probably fit - normally or meme? can they get a ship/fit that's strong against both variations? probably, but he'll know that and if he sees it coming, he'll escape if he can.

say a pilot's *not* mechanically competent or aware of his ship. his killboards will show it, with plenty of lossmails of "good" ships with bad fits. this means you can likely engage him with a ship that should normally lose to him.

all that was just 1v1 mind games.

as far as twitch action goes - good pvpers are doing a lot of things at the same time - maintaining transversal to reduce incoming damage, keeping their target webbed or scrammed as long as they are in range, managing their cap level by putting in boosters or disabling their reppers, heating modules to get more performance but not too much or they break, shedding small tackle, coasting out of range to disengage, etc.

i've always thought it was interesting that the usual screen of an eve pvper looks almost exactly like the hologram at the center of the cockpit in ed, pic related.

This doesn't even take into account the exponential increase in complexity when you're in a small gang or a fleet, where all of this is happening at a higher level (instead of checking a pilot's killboards, you're checking his corp or alliance, you're asking your members who've fought them before what they're likely to bring, you're managing fleet counters instead of ship counters, you're managing the healing wing, the tackle wing, the bomber wing, the dps wing, etc etc)

This also doesn't take into account the piracy of attacking non-pvp ships, like industrials of various kinds, for monetary gain (happens all the time).
>>
i'll stop talking about eve now unless questioned
sorry for the brief hijack
>>
>>149351983
>>149352307

He was taking damage right up until he disappeared. Considering he had his weapons stowed and flew in a straight line it was either a menu log (allowed by FD, like it or not) or a glitched jump that didn't produce a flash + wake.

A kill task combat log would have had him stop taking damage and slow to a stop for a while before disappearing.
>>
>>149378972
That's managing systems, not twitch controls. Like calling an RTS "twitch" because you have to manage a lot of stuff at once. Not hand-eye coordination stuff.
>>
>>149379293
I don't think they wanted a logoffski regardless of what kind it was or how approved by fdev it was, because it looks really bad on the devs regardless.
>>
>>149379318
fair enough. in that case, i'd say eve is a lot like a moba - you have a powerful character with certain abilities that need managing and constant input. It's a bit closer to the action than an rts, but not as close as an fps is (which is more what e:d appears to be).
>>
>>149379626
That's fair, and actually explains why I really didn't like the gameplay, can't stand mobas, and only stuck with eve as long as I did because I love space way too much.

yeah bounty hunting npcs would be the only viable way to go because of how you explained it.

the piracy would work, because of the way the market is setup and policing or maybe convoy mercenary would be more apt. Miner guards? Seems like eve is almost legit.

if only there was a way to combine the best of ed with the best of eve.....

bounty hunting/mercenary work does actually happen in eve, just not as a developer-created thing. usually it's user-created verbal contracts, like "hey i'll pay your corp x amount to harass the fuck out this other corp for y amount of time". the biggest recent example of course is how an eve casino used its massive assets to pay most alliances in the game to wipe out the goons' sov space. A smaller example is how my corp made fun of a guy's fit on a roam once and he paid a group of germans to try to destroy us. they weren't very competent though, and gave up after two months and some interesting fights.

miner guards are a sensitive topic. there's not much you can do ACTIVELY to deter a motivated suicide ganker in eve hisec. you are usually better served making it not worth their time - by tanking your ships (making your mining slower) or by mining outside hisec (meaning you have to rely on your own defense fleets like god intended and not the hisec npc police).

if only, yeah. From what I hear Eve: Valkyrie is getting excellent reviews and CCP is very interested in growing it. they might integrated it more tightly with eve proper or they might not.

Want some new jacket for your character? Go buy it in game for in game credits.

With ftroop it's a year of blueballing to release barren planets as a DLC. Costs as much as original game.
Somehow they can't release atmospheric worlds right away, adding atmo shaders, a layer of water and some generated rocks and trees is too much work. It should be it's own full price DLC!

What's that? Want some cosmetics for your avatar? Welcome to ftroop shoppe where virtual clothes cost more than IRL ones.

Oh, and there's no way to get free cosmetics in game, so buy that stylish space fedora now! Only $12.00!

Just from being aware of SC, you should know that simply throwing money at something doesn't mean it will turn out good. Even if you used that money to make 50 Sandro clones, no amount of fixing would do anything to fix the fact that instancing, p2p, and open/solo/group split are fucking stupid ideas that no one with a shred of common sense would consider.

Mate, the original game was insanely overpriced, $60 for barren EA experience.

Then, after a year of stagnat or failed updates and no content, they had the cheek to for another $60 for a chance to roll around on empty low detail planets.

All items in their shop has insane prices. A pack of boring solid color liveries our custodian made clicking pain bucket in Ps? That'd be $7. Golden paint that looks like tinfoil soaked in urine? $15!
Artificial scarcity exploitation and minimal viable product are only two concepts Braben understands.
>>
>>149400461

Powerplay is shit because FD has no ability to think ahead. We can see this through repeated issues that PP had before the massive bug that buried PP in its grave, which required devs to constantly meddle with the game because it would constantly do things it wasn't supposed to because I'm sure none of them knew how PP even worked. If they don't have the manpower or money to flesh out PP properly, that's fine, but they should have had the proper management to realize that and divert their attention to other things, like more mission variety, fixing the many bugs that infest the game, better BGS and general world building. Powerplay is shit because FD have no idea what they're doing, not because they lack funding.
>>
>>149398896
yeah, as far as I know that's as good as it gets for g3
>>
>>149400148
It's funny because a much easier (and far more immersive) option would be to have a PvP toggle on the functions screen that has a 15min cooldown timer. All problems solved, no need for any splitting, everyone is happy. You could even make it dynamic, like people pledged to PP factions are perma-toggled to enemy factions and such.
>>
>>149401324
>PvP toggle

The entire reason people bitch about the split is because of a group's ability to interact with community events hidden away in their own little worlds while having no ability to directly stop them, aka pvp.

If people want to go hide away in some solo universe that has no other players in it, that's fine. It's when they start doing shit that has an effect on others is when it's not fine, and they don't seem to understand this with their MUH EXPERIENCE goggles and ear plugs
>>
>>149401930
Still seems easier to just add a trigger to community based stuff that flags them into PvP On (with a warning) when they pick up a CG mission versus making three separate game modes.
>>
>>149402339
Didn't think of that. Could work. But I see that being abused despite a cooldown timer in piracy instances.

I think the biggest disappointment for me was going to Sol and seeing that it was just as empty as every other system. It would have been nice to see something like the beginning of Halo 2, with many ships flying in and out, but I knew they wouldn't be able to do that. I atleast wanted some special station layouts that would be exclusive to Earth, being very large with multiple mail slots and docking bays, and extreme amounts of traffic going in and out. Don't have to get rid of it. Just need to add some extra shit to the stations. It boggles my mind that humanity is still so primitive a thousand years later in this game.

I wish Fdev would just say fuck the lore with some aspects. They like to play god and rewrite things when it comes to their story, but for game mechanics? Nope, gotta stick to lore.

>just as empty as every other system

Makes you think about how shitty the thargoid invasion will be. I have a feeling there won't be any invasion fleets. Just a single thargoid capital ship in a combat zone around specific planets (the ship may or may not just be a reskinned faragut or imperial cruiser) and the same old endlessly spawning groups of ships dog fighting around it.

>Instead I got interdicted by pirates near the Moon and h-jumped away.

This really highlights what irritates me about the game the most. Every system is the damn same thing. I tried to explain this to a rabid fanboy but of course it's always "use your imagination." I don't know what massive well of imagination you need to see systems and stations as nothing more than places to get missions or belts to farm rats. The only difference is the system description which hardly matters because the BGS is so basic that it can be outright ignored most of the time. If I can't tell the difference between Sol and some backwater system with 1 billion population that doesn't even have a name, there's a problem.
>>

>>
>>149423689
>>149423229
If they allowed the BGS to influence the systems enough that if you put enough cops in there'd be no pirates or when you get interdicted cops spawn too and instantly begin attacking the pirate I would be a lot more immersed/invested in the game. Just give me some signs shit changes. Signs of life. An MMO needs an AI heartbeat.
>>
>>149424441

I always have to go back to Freelancer when I think about this. The game starts off relatively easy and the starting system is pretty safe for the most part. Plenty of security ships everywhere. But as you progress in the game, you go to areas that are more dangerous and have less security presence, and some which think of you as their enemy. This gives you context because you can compare how your life was in the beginning in the safe areas to how difficult things are when you get to later missions and areas where you're getting blown to smithereens.

I can draw the same comparison to EVE. Highsec and nullsec are two entirely different beasts. You can go into nullsec and run from bubble camp to bubble camp with roams tailing you and trying to find you, and once you get to low and highsec, you can breathe a sigh of relief because you've made it to (relative) safety. You have the context that high security is safe and that null is the more dangerous, but more lucrative and fun, areas of the game.

You don't have that in Elite because everything is the same. Dads shout on and on about how security levels matter in systems but from my experience, security level matters for fuck all. I've been dicked just as much in high sec as I have in low sec. Since you have nothing to compare this to since you get interdicted everywhere, every interdiction feels like a chore instead of "oh fuck Im being interdicted, should I run or should I fight?" It's simply "Fucking Christ Im being dicked again, SUBMIT BOOST BOOST HIGH WAKE." And of course, in classic Sandro fashion, pirates don't get ships and loadouts based on system status or security. The game just looks at your ship and rank and spawns a ship accordingly, so you either get dinky Cobras and Vipers or you get fucked in the ass with Rail De Lances, FAS's, Anacondas, and Vultures packing sniper accuracy railguns.

Pirates don't get ships and loadouts based on anything. Why are sidewinders flying around looking to pirate from people? Christ, every aspect of E:D is so utterly dead in comparison to to Freelancer. SP or MP. Just sonetging as simple as AI convoys asking you to wing up with them for an escort and thanking you at the destination. Dozens of those little touches to make the world seem alive. Star Citizen can't come soon enough. Even if it was nothing more than Freelancer HD Edition, I'd be a thousand times happier than I am playing E:D. Shit, now I've got the urge to play /v/lancer again.

Thargoid invasions begin. The bubble is slowly swallowed up by a massive Thargoid invasion fleet, coming into the bubble from the Maia/California nebula angle. Systems invaded by Thargoids are flooded by their ships, interdicting players, slaughtering at will. Stations are taken over and cordoned off by Thargoids. Huge, MASSIVE space battles (cgs?) at Empire and Fed strongholds, destined to lose (possible cgs only how "good" human retreat is, or to extend the time period until its inevitable fall). Achenar falls after Aisling orders Empire fleet home to an immense struggle, Fed, Empire and Alliance gathers in Sol to defend Earth. Human fleets crushed, Thargoid cordons placed around Earth and all earthlikes, though they do not make landfall. Several PP figures die? Hudson going out in a massive orgasmic all out suicide attack by combined fed/empire fleets?

Players and surviving Fed/Empire fleets have to retreat to Jacques to get away from Thargoids. You are completely and fully able to return to the bubble to try and reclaim stations, but face strong opposition from Thargoids.

???

Profit

tl;dr thargoids chase humanity out of bubble in massive first attack, humanity has to reclaim its living space or perish. If players wish to keep their ships they have to leave early and go back, or run the Thargoid blockade.

Yeah, but I've already dumped countless thousands of hours into it. Funny that, when compared, even as much as I've played it and standard SP, in a year or two after letting it rest again I'm ready to back through it again. Meanwhile I'm around 150hrs in E:D and every time I consider launching I feel like I'm punishing myself. The flight physics are so good, but literally every single other aspect is sooooo baaaad.
>>
>>149428542

EVE is pretty fun. Crusader Kings as well. And I still love the fuck out of Dwarf Fortress. These are practically the only games I play anymore. I pop into Elite every once in a while but I'm pretty burned out of the game. I don't feel like grinding cash, I never fast tracked my ranks back when I could so there's definitely no way I can rank up. I tried doing some BGS work like a true dad and that was fun for a bit, but the same missions over and over again and killing faction ships over and over again gets so damn old, not to mention the bugs I run into every once in a while and "Hurr mission redirects, fucking riveting game, praise Braben." We'll see what this next big update brings but I think I may end up uninstalling for good only to reinstall at the end of the year for the next season.

I would like to take a moment to say MISSION REDIRECTS ARE FUCKING CANCER. Whoever came up with that shit needs to be sacked. At least put a warning of some kind on the mission. Or let us cancel with no repercussion. Or make the redirect a big bonus and still allow us to deliver to the original location.

And before you say it, yes I check the missions every time, and it says the station, and it still redirects.

I really want a Space Comfy simulator
Where you can have a range of ship sizes from something the size of a sidewinder to the size of a modern nuclear sub, and where you can explore your own ship. Like just jumping your 200m long ship into orbit around a nice green planet, and then walking to a study with wood floors and paneling and art and all kinds of comfy shit to read in-universe lore books, kinda like in Skyrim except actually comfy. And then walking to an observation deck and watch the planet rotate underneath your ship and watch the sun rise and set 10 times in an hour.
Then grab an away shuttle to the surface of the planet and maybe hunt some animals, build a little beach front home, or just fly around looking at the majesty of nature. Then going back to your ship, and continue to explore the universe.

>>

It's good if you like big ships and turrets. I need muh speedy speed ship.
>>
>>149475901
get ship with big cargo and jump
go to sothis
get delivery missions, cycle until full
deliver
repeat.
>>
>>149475948
ehh. Asp carries less but goes A LOT FASTER so I guess Asp

It's 10 to 15 Sothis Asp runs to fit a tradeconda, thanks to which your profits will explode and you'll be able to buy a fully kitted battleconda in no time
>>
>>149475948
Python if you have it and strip it to to the hull for cargo, Asp if you can't get a python yet. Also not worth swapping from an asp to a Python once you start the grind, better to wait until you can buy an anaconda (and afford insurance!). Time wasted swapping/kitting is lost money.

I traded for days, in a python without shields

I did sidey >hauler(trade) > adder(mining) > vulture(bounty) > type 6(trade) > type 7(trade) > python(trade) > conda

trading was much more profitable and easy back then. No uber interdictions or bulk trade tax
also I caught a super sekrit discount by a community goals. It was 10% off or something
trade profit does scale well with the ship sizes
after python I had something like ~650k round trip profit
and bout 4 trips per hour netting ~4.5M per hour
>>
>>149476501

this shit is way slower than my asp, 5 or so jumps more, but I can hit 228 cargo this way. SHould I switch back to the asp?
>>
>>149476758
no. If you have a python do it in it
>>
>>149476758
If you already have it kitted, stick to python. Like I said, swapping/kitting is a much larger waste of time until you can get a tradeaconda.
>>
>>149477009
wait isnt sothis is for smuggling

how the hell you do smuggling in a conda is there a large landing pad there, or how to avoid 1000 interdictions
combat logging pisses me off

also 20 mission cap
>>
>>149477205
there's both smug and legit hauling in Sothis. Smuggling with a conda is piss EZ too
>>
>>149477205
You can outrun stuff in the anaconda, boost with FAOff. For smuggling, line up with the slot around 8k out, deploy hard points (which will be empty save 2x chaff), boost, 4 pips to SYS, fire chaff at 6km, request docking, fire second chaff at 3km, retract hardpoints, hit full stop, aim nose straight down and hit F until you stop moving, then go land.

go for type 6, its the budget explorer
get an srv for mat hunting and repairs
scan metallic and earth like planets
honestly you should wait a bit, the next update is going to add surface scan to materials on planet and nerf the engies. so you can go out there in a ship with better jump range
>>
>>149483604
Me too, man. Me too. Roberts will save us. I believe.
>>
>>149483048
guide not required, it's simple

get any ship with a long jump range, preferably an AspE or a Conda, fill it with all D-rated modules except for an A class FSD and the smallest A class PP that can power everything, make sure you have a fuel scoop, at least one AFMU, advanced discovery scanner, and detailed surface scanner. Bring the smallest D-class shields you can fit and a vehicle hangar if you want to land on planets. Optionally bring a couple of heat sinks if you're worried about overheating at a star.

Now just fly away from the bubble in any direction, it doesn't matter which, since every system is pretty much the same. Scan earth-like worlds, neutron stars, black holes, and ignore everything else. Do this over and over until you genuinely want to kill yourself, then either fly back to bubble and sell all your data, or uninstall the game and go play something fun until SC releases. Report back to this thread for dadposting.
