You're also doing evil things that some characters would never do on a few maps, depending on whether you're attacking or defending. Like if you're Attack on King's Row you're going to kill all the omnics underground with an EMP bomb. But you can play Zenyatta on Attack. Obviously he would never do that since he would also die. You can also play Winston on Defense in Gibraltar even though that goes against his Recall plans and makes no sense since he lives in the Attack spawn.

Winston is actually kind of bad now because D.va Zen and Ana are all pretty good counters to him and they're very popular.

But his main role is jumping on squishes like Widowmaker and Mercy and chasing them until they die, then jumping back out. You just pop shield when you land so their whole team doesn't focus you to death, though you can just pop it on the cart/point as well to protect people but it's a fairly low health barrier.

Well if you solo queue in this kind of game it's basically a gamble of getting people who should stay out of comp on your team or getting decent people. This is pretty bad for placement matches. In team games with classes or heroes that have vastly different playstyles and health pools it can effect your performance if someone isn't doing their job. It's not a death sentence but worst case you'll be wasting your time clawing your way up ranks while someone more fortunate gets placed a bit higher because they were carried.

There is the alternative of using tiers and then having everyone start at the lowest tier and work their way up.
