The first thing to note is that although there can be many different kinds of angles between you and your target, projectiles fired out of a 'slug' weapon where there's a physical object that has to hit can only be fired in certain directions.
The bullet simply wont cross some tiles at certain angles and have a pattern of horizontal/vertical depending on how steep the shooting angle is compared to a straight line.

Practise shooting in all directions at different angles. You'll want to get used to the paths you can make by shooting at tiles further away - if you click a tile up close, the shooting angles will be much sharper, and the bullet will be more erratic. This is how most people manage to dodge taser shots so easily, because of the big shift in angle as you follow them close.

Once you feel more comfortable with how bullet will behave when fired at further tiles, start trying to use that kind of aiming to intercept targets inbetween your clicks instead of trying to click directly on their sprites. Your shots will be neater chasing a moving target to keep pressure if you do miss and need to re-adjust and it'll be much easier to lead a target too.

Another tip is to mix up the rhythm of your fire. People dodging are trying to get you to use up your shots as fast as possible, so they can start moving either to atttack you or make a proper sprint to escape. If you pause for a moment and mix up your shooting rhythm, you might be able to get them to drop their guard and let you place an easy shot with your remaining bolts. This works suprisingly well if they're on a janicart or otherwise giving you a hard time.

Let me know if that doesn't make much sense, it's something like 3 in the morning.

Positioning is key too. If you can lead an attacker to follow you into a hallway where it's harder to dodge before you pull a gun as a nuke op, or you can put yourself in line with the airlock door they're about to stop at and try and push open and manage to line up those straight line shots, you'll have a much easier time than on the chase.
Even when you're chasing someone, try and set up angles/positions you know you can make hit as you move together - you don't usually need long if you see a moment and take it.

Practice makes perfect too. It took me a good while to learn what I have and even now I still try and improve and keep aware.

If you're in a chase through primary hallways, especially the central areas on each map, keep to the inside tiles and attempt to push whoever you're chasing to the outside before the corner turns come, because then you can gain tiles on them as they turn, or even fire straight forward and hit them as they try to cross your path.
Another thing is to bait them into your follow-up shots, by aiming a few times a head of them (if theyre on a different tile-path) or shooting directly at them, then firing as fast as you can for the tile-path next to them, so as they try to dodge the first they run themselves into the second. Works best if they're on the edges, not so well when theyre in the middle of the hallway. If you're quick enough on that second shot, it shouldn't give them enough time to do a second dodge, but they still could, but all the dodging gains tile advances. In the end you're ideal is to be 1-2 tiles away for those much harder to notice and almost point-blank shots which are so hard to dodge.

What's the consensus on goon aiming? I know /tg/ ported it a while back but after playing there I can't say for certain if I like it or not or if it's at all more accurate or worse in practice than the normal tile-based aiming we have.

Durands are fucking shit. I love it when robos build durands either as antag or to fight me as antag, because they're terrible compared to durands. The only time I've had a tough time fighting a mech was a vampire in a gygax. My point is that Durands are shit and nobody should ever build them, especially if they're just regular security officers that don't have any particular reason for a mech yet. It's completely outclassed by the gygax in every single way except for durability, which doesn't matter because if you need the extra durability you're probably already dead. You can't catch criminals in a durand unless you have good enough aim that you would literally never even need or have a purpose for a mech and you surprise them so they can't completely avoid you all shift. Can the Durand even fit the prisoner cells or whatever?

The Durand is a liability compared to the gygax. Every single time I've had to fight a Durand, I've won because it's such a shitty mech. Every single time the pilot got fucked too. The one time I've seen someone smart enough to use a gygax, I had to force a fucking stalemate because it already did enough damage to me before I blew it up because it's not a sitting duck and can actually catch up to a competent yakkety saxer with weapons. This isn't even about what the mech can or can't fit, the principle behind the Durand just makes it a weaker choice in every case that isn't fighting the blob, another mech, or xenos. Every single time the gygax will outdo the Durand. Every time I am privileged enough to see the gygax in action, I am always impressed by how robust it is and effective it can be in getting the job done, which is the exact opposite of what I think when I see a Durand.

This is a PSA to all roboticists that want to build mechs. BUILD THE GYGAX. Durands are shit. Remove the Durand smell. and make mechs great again

Crying to gods when a wild animal defends itself from unprovoked antagonism successfully. This is the adult stage of a wild yahir.

Eventually the yahir succumbs to the toll this takes on him. He returns to the earth and is reunited with his beloved Kneevall for the final time.

I need station ideas and layouts for a 4 to 6 man station. Just a captain, HoS, CE and the CMO. Maybe a cook and a scientist too.

Just a heads up: the medbay is 10x10 tiles big, not counting surgery, bathroom and a little room to fit the cryo's freezer and canister connector. I am undecided whether or not make chemistry a separate room or just have the chem dispensers in a corner. Power production comes from a small singulos engine and two small solars. Atmos will be simple and unimpressive. Mining and cargo are under the CE's jurisdiction. Research and hydroponics are under the CMO's jurisdiction. The brig will have two cells, and the armory will be cheaply stocked. Most rooms will be open to everyone, not even airlocks or windoors. Each crewmember will have his/her/xer/xir/za/zu/zim own bedroom and bathroom. For recreation, there will be a lounge with an open bar and a table or two, and a small library. The chapel will be small, dark, and secluded. If more people want to play but all roles are filled, there will be a MoMMI fabricator somewhere in the station. MoMMIs would be the only silicons aboard the station.

I go assistant so I can easily transfer into departments without feeling guilty for wasting a space or trying to leave to do something elsewhere.
