That begs the question of why they didn't just hold off on adding it until they could fix underwater combat instead. Most of those attacks work on the assamption that you can dodge freely in any direction, and not everyone has the luxury of either jumping around with the IG/aerial style to get past the endless AoEs, or just camping with the Bowgun so they can hurt it without even being in range of said AOEs (an easy task now between Deadeye and Long-type shots).

They should've just brought in Barroth, Barioth, Yama Tsukami, or even fucking Lao-Shan Lung instead of a monster with a moveset that had to be crudely altered because the gimmick it was created to showcase no longer exists. I'm almost tempted to add Gobul to that list, but it was just as heavily adapted to underwater combat and Gypceros already fills in as the annoying asshat who flashes you constantly.

IIRC, what it doesn't tell you is that it has no critical distance so it deals the same amount of damage no matter how far away the monster is, and apparently it's damage isn't reduced as much from heavily armored spots. I've been using a lot of Striker SA in my village quest, and it's been fun, with only one superdodge and no EE so far, it's harder than other weapons.
Decided to try Aerial SA just to get some experience. Remember GajinGoomba said it was so much fun. Turn out its just spamming jump, and then wail on whatever bodypart you wish, rinse and repeat. It's so boring and I feel like Im getting worse playing this mindless style.
I think it's great if you really want to farm certain parts, but man, what a boring playstyle.

Monster roars? Can counterattack it and get half a bar in Demon Mode, slide around a bit then hit the monster more. Trample damage? You can counter attack that, too.

It honestly feels the easiest thing ever. That said, I can't stand playing Aerial Switch Axe, which is why I play Adept Dual Blades and Striker Switch Axe instead

I personally never had to open my 3DS so far, shouldn't be that hard though, just check youtube for some tutorials and I guess you'll have to buy Nintendo specific screwdrivers. (Usually cost jack shit)

Repaired a few PSPs back in the day, even as electronics illiterate it's still easy to repair broken boards and parts. It's pretty much plug and play anyway, just on a smaller scale.

The only thing you need to get used to is applying the right amount of force to unlock a part even if you think it's gonna break.

can someone explain to me how aerial sa is more braindead than regular sa? I remember playing sa in Tri, you ran up to the monster's butt, sworded it until you were blue in the face, reloaded and then ran back to its butt. all aerial SA does is let you hack at its head/back instead of having to get opposite to its mouthy bits.

is it just the perfect dodge on aerial vaults, because I gotta say jumping over a ludroth roll feels a ton better than just eating it because you can't stop your swing when you see his tell.

You weren't meant to do this even in Tri. You were meant to morph slash out of Sword Mode and start overheading things because the only monsters that gave you room to reload manually were a really tired Deviljho or Jhen. Alatreon would almost never give you room to manually reload unless you were in a group filled with people cheesing it, and those three monsters were the endgame of Tri.

Don't get me wrong, I love Switch Axe and I agree it's mindless, but there are things that people aren't meant to do, and watching your gauge empty is one of those things.

If you get tripped by Dual Blades, you've accomplished one of two things.
1. You managed to be in a really, really short space because the weapon has almost no natural reach
2. You've partied with someone who uses a rather pointless hunter art

Hell, I'd say Switch Axes shouldn't trip you without their horizontal swing which is also the only reason people could trip you with SA in 4U (it didn't trip you in Tri/3U or P3rd precisely because those games had the same X combo Generations has) but I imagine people don't position properly online when Trance Slashing, where the reach of the horizontal swings for the first part of the art is incredible

Gammoth's a tedious fight. The fight is just tremors, tremors, tremors and snow. You could do Aerial in the fight and I imagine it'd work really well. You can also trap Gammoth and slap the face.

You shouldn't be at risk of carting, you should be at risk of being bored because the fight is really awful but the monster and theme are great

Gammoth is the second hardest of the elite 4. Glaveanus is harder but also much quicker to kill. Gammoth is just tanky as fuck and constantly staggering you.

The other two aren't even worth mentioning. I killed bubbleslut on my first try in like 2-3 minutes and wondered what the fuck even happened.

Gammoth isn't hard, come on. Just tedious. Out of the Fated Four, Gammoth is the easiest fight, and the Fated Four quest confirmed that for me. Glavenus is the hardest and the better fight of the four, but it helps that Astalos and Glavenus are both enjoyable hunts. Gammoth really isn't, just really easy. I gave up on both Mizu and Gammoth in their invasion quests, but killed both Astalos and Glavenus. Similarly, Gammoth was the quickest to kill for me in the Fated Four quest. Mizu was actually the longest because I fucked up pretty badly and it kept sliding around away from me to the other side of the zone

Glaveanus is by far the hardest of the 4. It actually has attacks that hit and can deal damage. It's also aggressive as fuck due to 90% of the time being in rage mode.
Gammoth just takes ages. It's only attack that might hit is the trunk sweep that hits 90% of the map but outside of that it's just a long fight.
Astalos is a joke. Lots of flashy attacks that do nothing. They never hit and even if they did they don't actually hurt. Astalos is like a squishy Rathalos that is less aggressive and has half of it's moves replaced with hilariously ineffective attacks.
Bubbleslut is a joke. She moves around a lot but that is all. She's squishy, never hits, has no attacks that are a particular threat and can actually heal and buff you.

Not him, and I'm not implying people should solo them, but a sense of achievement in progressing solo could do. I mean, either way monsters in all games not called Tri are scaled for two players in guild halls/the gathering hall of 4U/the hub so going 2 is fine, going 3 or 4 is where the fight gets really dumb especially because most monsters have awful AI against multiple targets. Lagiacrus actually handles them the best because almost everything he does now is an AoE.

That said, if someone goes through all of village, hub low rank is trivialized to heck anyway because the first rank, especially, gets completely wrecked by upgraded weapons.

Especially not if it's a monster I haven't already soloed previously. All progression I personally do is solo for sake of confirming I can solo it, same for all fights (this is why I soloed bone squid)

This wouldn't make the trap options any better. Para/Poison/Exhaust would still be trash and Dragon would still be mostly shit. With Power Phial gone people would just flock to Element, tripping would get even more outrageous because the best attacks to apply element are the double slash combo and phial burst.
The SA would just become more of a balanced weapon between element/status and raw instead of being pure raw. The only effective change in playstyle would be that you need a SA for each element while playing through the ranks.

Typhoon Trigger is shit damage but exhaustion out of the fucking ass. It fills up so fast because you're suppose to spam it and keep the monster constantly exhausted.

Spinning Meteor hits like a fucking truck. But most of the damage comes from the last hit. If you knock a monster out and are in a good position, you can usually triple pound straight into a spinning meteor combo straight to their head.
