Man, I have mixed feelings about it. The tomestone rewards are good but we're not sure if Yoshi was right about it being 3 hours long. I'm not sure if it'll be a good way of leveling up to ever replace DF dungeons but we'll see soon enough.

It's not foolproof methodology or anything (duplicate clears on different classes are counted as extra clears, some portion of clears will not be uploaded at all or will be made private) but there's no reason to assume that things are significantly different on Balmung in that regard than any other server. Balmung is going to have extra clears listed from alt jobs, and it's going to have unlisted clears, and so is every other server.

The only anomaly, if you care enough to look at that data for every server, is Sargatanas, where the A8Sclears/A5Sclears figure is a good 5% larger than any other server, but Balmung's 7% is within a percent or so of just about every server besides Sarg/Gilga.


Barring any actual evidence that Balmung is an exception (something that isn't "I hate Balmung soooooooooooooooooo much that I choose to believe the absolute worst about the entire server at all times in every way"), I'm pretty comfortable using it as a measuring stick.

you can use it to figure out why someone is doing low dps or figure out what someone who does better than you is doing differently
on any job, which i have done a large number of times
it's a really good tool for improving in general and much easier to pick through than a parser, and to compare your damage to someone better than you just through ACT would require you actually being there in the group with them 98% of the time

competition is human nature and while some people are really gay about it to the point of holding their group back because of muh parse most people use it to measure improvement or simply compete with eachother and there's nothing wrong with either

The only thing that can be said about Balmung based on fflogs is that the reason the raid community there feels tiny is that its only a bit larger than Excalibur's but the server as a whole is much more populated. Its not that Balmung has a small amount of raiders, its that they comprise a smaller percentage of the server's massive population vs. servers like Excalibur.

My response to that is that IF "self-importance" were driving FFLogs uploads (which is, again, only what YOU said, not something that I actually believe), the effect of that would literally be the opposite of what you're saying it is.

You then not-so-seamlessly move on to this even more ridiculous premise that people on other servers intentionally avoid it out of some undefined sense of samurai bushido honor, or whatever, but Balmung DEFINITELY doesn't do that, and everyone on Balmung would DEFINITELY upload EVERY SINGLE CLEAR, even though Balmung's reputation is more that it's the RP carebear server where everybody thinks parsers should warrant an instant permaban.

Balmung is basically what you'd get if you averaged out the communities from Excalibur and Leviathan, in terms of the size/skill/whatever of the raiding community, and then you added another mid-pop server's worth of players who don't participate in endgame raiding at all and just RP.

It allows players to analyze other players from certain scenarios and instances that wouldn't be as easily accessible. Players can see what they're doing wrong and optimize their own play. In addition, fflogs also exposed how certain players were achieving what seemed unachievable (ie. speedhacking).

Fflogs provides an amazing amount of data and information that wasn't as easily accessible before. All of this information was provided through ACT logs but fflogs added more utility and the ability to compare side by side.

Unfortunately, fflogs at a face value is a leaderboard.

Frankly if you're above 85th percentile on any Savage/Extreme content and someone tries to give you shit about it you can instantly write them off as shitposting, and you definitely don't need any particular party composition to hit that level (with a sort-of exception for MCH/BRD in groups that don't run DRG).

You can be a good player and score well under that, too, but in those cases it's usually down to your group using some strategy that neuters your DPS, or your group not being able to push phases, or whatever.

at this point now that bard has been buffed and past a certain level of gear it really isn't necessary but mch certainly made progression a lot easier in midas

it's a fun job and it's alright to play, it's harder to pick up than brd but while brd is braindead easy to be decent with it feels like there's a lot less to being great at mch, picking it up, learning the opener, and then being great with it is a much quicker process than becoming great @ brd past the learning part

If you're doing all of those jails and not skipping you're going to be potentially losing 20% of your damage.

Mostly for the utility they bring for certain mechanics and raid DPS, and some people prefer the look of a gun user over a singer with a bow. MCH also made progression in Savage raids easier because of their utility.

From a DPS standpoint, MCH feels choppy while BRD is more fluid. Outside of that, MCH provides more relevant utility over a BRD's niche utility.

Not them, but the tank in my last static usually did the first purple jail and he had 220 gear and the Sephirot weapon. This was back around the first or second week of 3.2. Any WAR worth their salt can kill that alarum in full 220 or so provided they save some cooldowns for it.
