It's not.
I don't have the source code for the game, but it's most likely not server-side. All it is a function that works something like this:
if player is < .5km from pokemon && player is > .1km from pokemon
display 2paws
end
repeat for all 3 paw outputs. That's not something you'd put server-side, that's part of your personal game. It's just using the location info, which is server side and if that werent working, you wouldnt be able to see Pokemon.
It's most likely either the above code has a typo or the geolocation info is being passed into it incorrectly, all of which are probably client side issues, not server side. So tl;dr they need to update the app because paws are bugged.

Why can't my droid turbo handle this game for shit? It gets molten hot after more than 30 minutes and the frame rate drops horribly when viewing pokemon and transferring them.
My brother has an iphone 6 and his doesn't get hot unless he plays it for 2+ hours, the battery drains sure but he has one of those battery cases so it lasts him.
My other mate has been playing it on his s6, it doesn't get too hot but the small battery size means he has it plugged into an external battery quickly.
I'm just trying to enjoy the game... Is it programmed poorly? The turbo has some good specs I thought.

i live in a super rural area with literally no pokestops or gyms to speak of, scanner only suggests pidgeys and rattatas live here, then i traveled across the ocean through multiple national parks in the states and have a bunch of cool pokemans now.
all i got was a soft ban that lasted a few hours, if they end up going to be permabans i can't get too upset, the game isn't that fun if you can't actually train your pokemon like in the actual games.
