No. Most of the things like bones and textures are already set for the model. You just need to use importing and exporting scripts and a 3D program to port them.

You use a program called QuickBMS to extract files from the game directly. Then, once you have access to the game's .ism files (these are the files that contain the actual model) you then run another script in 3D Studio Max to load the model into the program.

From there you can save it to another format or use yet another script to export it to xnalara.

Personally I'm stuck on the last step. The 3DS to xnalara script I have is from 2010 and has issues with scale and crashes on some models. I've tried exporting to Blender and then using a Blender to xnalara script too, but then only parts of the model show up. I guess it pays to have a little experience with modeling programs first. I'm learning as I go.

Once you did the Blender export open the exported file in Blender again and look at the object browser in top right. If one of the model's parts is named differently than the rest, that one won't be visible. Just rename it and export again.
