Encourage your enemy that you are more important than defending the objective. "OP" heroes and snipers are a good way to do this. If your entire team is skirmishers then you can't effectively defend because you're all too busy flanking and skirmishing.

Tanks and Supports are also generally good at this. Don't be afraid of dying, either. A 20-second fight that you die in is 20 seconds where SOMEBODY isn't blocking the point.

About 75% of my time is on support and all it's got me is ballache and lost ranks, so you're preaching to the choir, m8. he is generally bad if the enemy team has a lot of beefy heroes. he excels at bursting down heroes with like 200 hp. against a triple tank team (say reinhardt, roadhog, zarya) he is unlikely to be that good and you could probably do more with some other hero

Learn to switch songs really quickly and more importantly WHEN to switch. Some games I go back and forth between Speed and Heal several times in a few seconds, especially on KotH.
Wall-running is great and makes it harder for less-skilled enemies to track you. Better foes might be able to track you, but you can combine it with quick song swaps to throw off their tracking (because your speed changes your wall-slide speed TREMENDOUSLY).
Abuse the shit out of your alt fire to keep literally everyone off of you, your team, and your point.
Aspire to have an objective time that is equal to your game time. It's actually impossible, but still a good aspiration.
Save ult for when your team is pushing (on attack) or when you're about to be pushed against (on defense). Learn to spot the signs of an incoming push and use your ult BEFORE it starts for maximum effectiveness. Team coordination helps here, but you can do it in SoloQ if you're attentive.
Learn who your good teammates are and encourage/help them whenever possible, so long as it keeps you both on the point.
The objective is more important than anything else. If you are not on the point you are not doing your job properly.

Also, play 20+ hours of Jet Set Radio. It'll genuinely help, especially with the wall-riding.

Never let Amp Up be off CD.
Know when to leave. If your team isn't close, get the fuck out of there. You're literally the most mobile hero in the game. Only DVA rivals your speed, and she can't kill you if you're trying to escape.
Know when to contest. You're pretty good at contesting and extending overtime. If your team is on the way, hold your ground.
Amp up your speed boost at chokepoints.
Elevate yourself. Being up high keeps you out of crossfire.
Git gud at wall riding. When I say Lucio is most mobile hero in the game, I'm not kidding. This is how you elevate yourself, this is how you escape, this is how you stay safe.

Mercy is generally better for defense since you tend to die in a clump and have less utility for his speed boost, but you'll usually want 2 support anyway (or even 3 in this upcoming meta), and 2 Mercy has almost no added benefit compared to Mercy/Lucio, and nobody else compares to Lucio's AOE healing. There's nothing too wrong with defensive Lucio, it's just you'll probably miss some clutch plays you could get with Mercy instead.

it should be used more reactionarily, like for example if your team gets caught in a black hole or an ulting genji dashes in the middle of your team

basically it goes like "oh shit we are about to take shitloads of damage --> press Q"

thats why you should make sure to remain on the ground as lucio in those situations where you are expecting for something like that to happen so that you get your Q off instantly. if you are in air it won't go off until you hit the ground

in your example for instance an enemy can easily kill someone in the time it took you to push in and then activate
by "before" I mean "as you're charging in" so it minimizes the risk of someone not actually getting the barrier/dying before you drop it

PotG is pretty biased towards the DPS heroes. A 4-man kill by Tracer shouldn't be ignored because Bastion got a lucky shot on Tracer and shaved off half of Lucio's health.

if you use 800 dpi 15 sens you probably only move your wrist. you need to get used to moving the whole arm. it could take weeks. when i originally myself switched from super high shitter sens to a slower one many years ago i also took off the arm rests from my chair. with the arm rests on i always defaulted to that "elbow resting on arm rest, only moving wrist" shit that made it harder for me to adapt to low sens. now i play so that my whole forearm rests on the mouse pad
