There are some meme armor sets early on like Jaggi/Bulldrome mix and Tetsucabra but as long as you keep up with upgrades you won't be weaker defensively than anyone else. Also with some sets you might want to use a gem slot to get rid of a rogue -elemental defense skill

In terms of new stuff between generations MHX doesn't bring much to the table and for the most part Hunting Styles feel like they were fucking modded in by a fan... I hope MH5 will have new Monsters and weapons. You hunt the Great Maccao, and then there's literally nothing new for 20 hours, and 90% of the quests are gathering shit

They added a lot of things I like but took out stuff too. I hate the new monster intros and the kinda confusing trading shit. I loved the smooth transitions into fights and the comfy farm as well. Im not defending Gaijin but I dont think the developers intended for you to 'main' and play through the whole game with the prowler. Its clear they intended them for two real purposes. Gathering missions and assisting newbies without ruining their experience by steamrolling and pretending to be a support. Learn to aim your slam. Don't use fullburst if there're people in front of you. If you want to combo, use poke>poke>upswing poke+shell so that your shelling doesn't hit people. When using wyvern fire/dragon blast, always aim at the most non-popular side (usually the hard part of the monster that often bounce) since it's a fixed damage anyway
