Catch a TON of Weedles and Pidgeys and Caterpies. I mean get at least 30 of each. When you hit level 9(?) they give you a lucky egg as a reward. Pop the egg, then evolve everyone. Should carry you to somewhere in the mid-teens if you caught enough. At that point, your level will let you catch a much more diverse array of pokemon AND it'll be easier to snag gyms, so you can finish the journey by just playing.

The issue is gyms are so fucking broken, no one wants to bother with them anymore cause they're impossible to keep a hold of. It's literally based around if you're lucky enough that no one will come around anytime soon.

They need to completely remove multiple people ganging up on a gym, remove dodge or allow the AI to dodge, and give a grace time of 30-60 seconds to the guy who beat the game so he can place a pokemon without having to worry about someone sniping it
