Part of the problem is that when they're all so similar, being bored of one game you put literally millions of hours into means you're bored of all of them.

MMO's are facing the issue in the west where most of the fans of the genre played enough WoW to be bored of anything WoW-like, and nobody knows how to make anything that isn't WoW-like, so there's just not the same enthusiasm.

It doesn't help that the MMO market is flooded with these dime and dollar gook knockoffs coming off the assembly line every few months with anime tie-ins and cash shop cosmetics to milk some neetbucks before going under.

There'll be a bit of a surge in endgame activity after people finish leveling their Delia's but that's about it. The game was basically so dead before Delia that you couldn't even get raid boats together and it will likely go back to being that dead in a month or so when Delia hype dies off.

I'm surprised they haven't done a complete restructuring of the story early game. I've had so many people start playing this game, then stop at about level 30 because they say it's too boring and there's no challenge.

Everything that happens before episode 6 (and maybe not even then) is largely inconsequential. It's funny when you see the credits sequence for S1 and you get to look at things you just finished seeing, rather than the early game content where nothing happens.

I know they did that, but it's still not enough to keep people playing until the raids start happening.

I'm talking the sort of thing that would involve going into a battle, fighting two or three bosses, then turning in your quests in town. They could do more to reduce the amount of time you spend in town getting your new quests. It's like a rollercoaster that stops every minute to tell you there's a curve up ahead. I guess the S3 maps are what I'm envisioning.

But this is Devcat we're talking about, there's no way they'd ever do something that involves effort.

It's pretty bad.

This game has so much content, but like 90% of it is fucking nothing. Nobody I've ever recommended this game to has gotten past Ruins of Sanctity because it's just so fucking boring.

I don't understand why they never bothered going back and updating earlygame content to match all the improvements and changes they've made to characters and mechanics. Most of the earlygame bosses feel like they were designed for a different, slower game and players go through like the first 3 chapters without ever getting hit, only to suddenly lose 90% of their HP when they make a mistake, because inflated damage is the only way some of these things even manage to be a threat.

And this goes on and on. Their numerical balance forces difficulty into irrelevance at or near stat caps, and economy makes the vast majority of materials worthless. S1 still has like 12 raids varying between god-tier 10/10 design, to at least decent, but none of them are worth doing because level 80/90 characters floor the boss in seconds and their "valuable" drops are worth dick. S2 raids have the same problem, only their drops still have relevance thanks to scrolls.

Rather than giving us 8 month content droughts while they slap together a single new raid boss, they ought to be going back and making a level 90 difficulty for S1 and S2 raids, or updating earlygame stuff so that it's less trivial, less dull, and more worthwhile to do.

I don't like that new slut's hold skill can only be done on a downed boss.

But I do like that it takes no SP.

Yep, this is the point where almost every single person I've ever shown the game too nopes the fuck out. Not only has everything but the polar bear and second chief fight been a complete joke but the second they see those rehashed levels they immediately say fuck it and quit. They honest to god just need to delete 90 percent of the shit up to hoarfrost depths, not only is it all irrelevant but you're basically not even really playing the characters because they don't even get half of their moves until then. Delia is a perfect example, until you get the followup smashes and especially Ion Thrust at level 40 you can just feel how incomplete your move set is.

If you re balanced and immediately threw new players against shit like the polar bear and red ruins chieftain, then had them continue on with the 30-40 and up bosses with enough health to not die in 15 seconds while actually having some of their move set to play around with peoples initial impressions of this game would drastically change.
