This build will allow you to use every Powder Keg weapon to near maximum power. As well as allowing you to ONLY use Powder Keg approved gear for every single need:

Your parrying tool is the rifle spear (fit it with Thrust gems for highest Viscerals in the game), while your off-hand is Gattling Gun for chip damage or Cannon for blowing people away. Lots of Stamina for endless Whirligig L2's. Stick a Fire Gem and 2 Cold Abysmal's on a Stake Driver and throw oil urns at stuff before exploding them with Charged R2's for stuff resistant to physical.

It's doable, I don't have pics on me at the moment but I have a set of Cursed Abysmal Nourishing's for my HMS on a 10 Vit build. It's not even that bad until you reach cursed dungeons, makes all future playthroughs feel like a walk in the park.

Theoretically it should since Physical gems affect Blood damage, and it seems to work similarly to Blunt/Thrust (which are boosted by Beasthood).

But when I tried to kill rom with a Bone Marrow Ashed Cannon and a Full Beasthood bar it wasn't noticeably different to a regular BMA cannon shot.

Yeah, the good thing the rifle has over pistols like the evelyn is that there's hardly any damage fall off at a distance unlike the pistols, making it perfect for what you want to use it for
The only issue is the recoil, you'll be stuck in place for a while after firing compared to the pistols so that can be an issue if you're not careful

I'm not sure if you're aware of the whole Lovecraftian theme running though the latter half of this game, or if you listened to Micolash's raving madman dialogue, or saw Master Willem in Byrgenwerth turning into a mushroom, but forbidden knowledge tends to have pretty adverse effects on humans, in any form. Frenzy resist is sweet, blissful ignorance.

The Mensis Cage is the absolute opposite of sweet, blissful ignorance. Look how Micolash turned out. He's a mummy in Yahar'gul and insane in Mensis.

Also, wait til Arianna's disappeared from the Chapel to get her cord, it's in the sewer you came through to get into the chapel. You also get one from Mergo. The third is in the Abandoned Workshop in that big pit under the Healing Church Workshop.

There's a lot to take in with this game. Now, I do understand what you're saying, however, Bloodborne takes its cues from two literary genres: cosmic horror and gothic horror. At its heart, Bloodborne, like Lovecraft, is gothic horror, just on a very different scale. Whereas the old gothic novelists of the 18th and 19th centuries wrote about dark secrets and forbidden deeds in crumbling European castles in the middle ages, Bloodborne and Lovecraft are concerned with dark secrets and forbidden deeds in modern environments in more modern, 'enlightened' times, which is part of why HPL is such a big deal, he's one of if not the first person to write horror like that. There's a whole Romanticism angle to it, too, versus Enlightenment. Bloodborne has a very heady, rich lineage.

Basically, nothing good is gonna come of any of this, there's no good end to delving into secrets which at best outright kill you or at worst mutate you into a brain-eye-eating monster or mushroom man. Forbidden knowledge is forbidden for a reason and those who seek it are ultimately doomed, it's something you are simply not meant to know and there's no work around for that. The source material for this game absolutely stresses human limitation, weakness and ignorance of the truth. Buddy, a Mensis Cage aint gonna do shit for you. Notice how everyone you see wearing a Mensis Cage is a mummy, lining the walls of places. Micolash is dead and only exists in an alien dimension in some weird form, and he's nuts. I don't think Micolash is an exception, he's a special case.

Has this theory ever been discussed? I think Gehrman is just a title, which is why Gehrman hesitates before saying it.

Gehrman was the apprentice of "Old Gehrman" the former holder of the title. The apprentices name is lost because he now has to go by Gehrman. Nobody has ever called Gehrman "Old Gehrman" not even the doll who Gehrman created, making me believe he's a different person. It also doesn't make sense why people think the apprentice is Maria, seeing as her name isn't really lost, and she isn't missing a limb.

This was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the Old Hunters Bone on my first playthrough. Can anybody disprove it?

'Old' is an affectation. He's Old Gehrman because he lived a long ass time ago. He's been in that Dream for possible centuries. He's forgetting his own name is a Gothically tragic twist of his context.

Take into account the fact he's the first Hunter, he started the tradition. Also take into account the Church Pick's description as a weapon seen 'in old beast tales'. Beasts, and the Hunters who hunt them with such weapons, have been around a long enough time for it all to become the norm. There's been so many nights of the hunt that Chapel Dweller states that the hunt always ends, always has. That to me implies there's been quite a damn few for it to pass into that mode of speech.

The Gehrman we see is a the man named Gehrman, founder of the Hunters ans perpetual dweller of the Hunter's Dream, until we show up. We can become the new custodian of the Dream, but not once are we referred to as Gehrman.

I know no one is going to believe this because i have no pictures but i found a fourth fucking ending. You have to get the yharnam stone by beating yharnam. And you have to beat her before mergos wet nurse or getting any cords in your inventory. And consume ONLY the iosefka and arianna cord.Do not consume the other two. After you beat gehrman and the moon presence.
You teleport into a new location which you are on top of a tower. It looks like yharnam but im not sure. There you fight ''The Paleblooded God'' it is the doll in a horribly disfigured way. And she calls you ''Foolish accursed hunter'' and tells you that you will always be in this nightmare. Upon killing her you enter a cutscene where the hunter is leaving yharnam and is hitting the road.But it is still night.

Personally, I think Gehrman's entrapment within the Dream for who knows how long, seeing people come and go, killing them to release them, and forgetting who he is as he festers uselessly in a wheelchair, fits the Gothic tragedy theme of the game. His situation is tragic and terrible, and he only comes into himself once he needs to sever you from the Dream and be alone again until some other Hunter comes along. Consequently, our own entrapment in the Dream as the new custodian/host/whatever is a wonderfully futile and Gothic ending, where nothing really mattered and now we are to suffer the fate of our 'mentor', as it were.

I honestly don't think there's a lot of support for this theory. Actually, quite the opposite. Gehrman (the old man we see in the dream and eventually fight) was an associate of Laurence and Master Willem. We know that the three of them beckoned the Moon Presence together in the first place to begin the whole mess. I just don't see where preceding Gehrmans would fit in.

Stuff in BB that is a straight downgrade:

-Cannot rest at lanterns or warp between them- this has probably wasted an hour of your time if you've played this game very much.

-Blood vials are an exhaustible consumable- this heavily discourages doing anything difficult. Many people will not bother trying to fight the Bloody Crow without cheesing him because they do not want to burn through all of their health vials or have to farm repeatedly. Having to farm vials makes rushing bosses much more obnoxious, as well. Once you exhaust your storage, if you fail to kill a boss three times you will need to take a fifteen minute break to farm blood echoes. The farming isn't as bad if you have a level four or deeper chalice active, but it's incredibly annoying if you don't. This is pretty much only defended with "git le gud xD"

Reminder that the only mandatory bosses after the Shadows of Yharnam are Rom, One Reborn, Micolash, and Mergo, all of which are shit. The second half of this game sucks and Bloodborne would be considered on par with Dark Souls 2 if it wasn't for Gherman at the end.

I just assumed it was in your inventory for story reasons. Bold Hunter's Marks are also apparently purchasable, which I forgot because I frequently skip the Cleric Beast. It's still a straight downgrade not being able to rest at lanterns to reset where you will spawn or to warp between lanterns. Also, it isn't necessarily easy to farm a lot of blood echoes quickly. Yahar'gul is a decent place to farm before Rom, but afterwards there's a while where you really don't have any very good options, especially considering you won't have a good moon rune until the game is practically finished. It may not be annoying initially, but it certainly will be when you get to a boss like Orphan who can take on average over ten vials per attempt.

How can you ask this? Rom is basically a boss who you wail on while hoping a familiar doesn't kill you or that she doesn't spazz out. Once she gets the ability to defend herself it's very difficult to wipe out your familiars, and there is essentially a lot of luck involved at some point. If she was difficult in any meaningful sense (more damaging, for example) she would be infuriating.

One Reborn shouldn't require description.

You can chase Micolash around for fifteen minutes, and when you do get to him you kill him by stunlocking him, strafing out of the way of his Augur, and then repeating. He can be particularly infuriating for a new player who keeps getting one shot by his Call Beyond.

Mergo is a terrible boss. She makes very little effort to pursue you or prevent your healing, and will realistically only kill you if you get caught in a full health combo. One of her attacks has her slowly charge straight forward for fifteen seconds slashing around while you can stand behind her and wail on her.

It actually is fairly true. If you can stagger an enemy very easily you should probably be mashing on R1 to kill them. Even if they hit you it isn't a very big problem, you can just rally your health back. And because bosses can often be staggered somewhat reliably, a lot of bosses turn into slugfests where it isn't even that important to dodge consistently. Every other Souls game, with the exception of DaS3, required much cleaner play (although this isn't true if you decided to just turtle).

If something will continue to combo you before you can get an R1 in you need to run away, otherwise you might as well just start mashing. In my experience, I tend to rely far more on viscerals for most enemies. Only the most basic ones get R1 mashed. For example in the earlygame, I'll visceral the big brick guys and the werewolves but mash the yharnamites. In the forest I'll visceral the snake head guys and the very beastial yharnamites but mash the small snake balls and the crawling torsos.

I dunno. I play mostly on my 15 SKL/14 STR BLT build and my 12 SKL/25 STR ARC build, and even in NG+ and depth 5 chalices I've found my viscerals still effective. For the BLT build I parry into unzip, which does a fair amount of damage, and for my ARC build I just use my Nourishing HMS/Wheel/Boomhammer/Tonitrus and I still do significant visceral damage.

I will say I've never done a pure STR build before though.

I used to hate them the most but after really delving into CFR I think I hate eyeball witches and their Mad Ones even more, simply because they don't die when you kill the witch.

Also I recently saw a red spider with the bowl-cut hair and it did a bunch of weird moves I had never seen, like shooting web out of its butt (I thiought only Romspiders did that) and also rearing back to do some sort of Wrath of Gods effect at me through a door.
