I'm still trying to get the Messalians to have crusades, and I've set three kingdoms to have 5k crusade weight each for Messalian. I've enabled Messalian as a crusader religion, and I've created the Patriarch. But he won't declare a crusade. Both the Catholics and Sunnis have launched great holy wars within 1 year of the wars activating.

Would you settle for Messalians being able to crusade non-Christians as well, and being limited to essentially crusading Catholics? The problem is that I'm miffed with the suggestion that the AAR has gone memey. Granted, Messalianism is a sort of inherently memey religion, but in-game it's nowhere near as bad as literal Satan worship, and it was the most sensible religion for me to convert to. It was a serious 180, granted, but it fits with Bourgogne's personality and I gave it every chance to fail. This AAR was always meant to be written and taken seriously, and that it's not any longer is disappointing to me.

I probably should have used Catharism if I wanted to continue really being taken seriously, I suppose, but it wasn't ideal for so many reasons. I'm just going to have to work twice as hard to repatriate Messalianism and my characters now.

Nah, that's not an acceptable compromise for various reasons. If the Messalian Patriarch calls a Crusade for Greece and wins it, it would be unrealistic for the Pope to not call a counter-Crusade.

I'll see if I can find a solution. I know a few modders who have a great deal more experience with this sort of thing who may be able to help. Worst-case I suppose I will tweak the crusade weights, although I'd hate to have to.

If you want to send what you've got now, I'll talk to those modders tomorrow (I hope to fuck they'll be around) and hopefully figure out how to implement a perfect solution.

Catharism is a very European heresy, one that's also more focused on corruption within the Church than equality for its adherents, although it did preach for equality.

It wasn't ideal for a lot of reasons, most important being that Catharism preaches some pretty serious asceticism, which Bourgogne didn't believe the peasants would adhere to.
