Ideally you start out doing current content when they release it and get to know people, they invite you to linkshells or straight up ask you if you have a static. That's how I've found two. Which is so fucking dumb because they could have easily gone back to the well at least once more on all the fights that have come out since then, and never had a serious content drought again, without requiring them to spend a bunch of money developing new assets.
I'd be more than happy to play through "rehashed" versions of Leviathan, Ramuh, Ultima, Thornmarch, Shiva, Odin, Gilgamesh (I and II), Chrysalis, Ultros, and at this point, even Bismarck and Ravana, if it meant getting multiple new 2.1-esque meaningful trials every patch.

2.1 was entirely rehashed fights, and it's almost universally looked on as, if not one of the best major patches overall, at least the strongest odd-numbered patch by a mile. The only competition it has is 2.5 (and that's only because there's a segment of the game's audience that just does not give a shit about any content that isn't main-story). That's sort of the opposite of "players want new content, not old content redone".

Wrong. Ifrit/Garuda/Titan Hard Mode WERE the 'difficult versions'. Titan HM, at release, was a more difficult fight than the "Extreme" modes of Leviathan, Thornmarch, Shiva, and Bismarck, and probably was about on par with Ravana EX and Nidhogg EX.
The original three primals got three versions: The easy story-mode version, the Hard Mode which was the 'real' fight, and then the Extreme Modes which were going back in and figuring out how to turn the 'difficult version''s mechanics into something extra-challenging.
The only reason anyone thinks otherwise is because they started calling the Normal/Story mode versions of new Primals the "Hard" mode, and they started calling the "Hard" mode fights "Extreme". There's plenty of room to go back to all of those fights (plus the special trials like Chrysalis, Gilgamesh, Ultros that never really even had the 'real' version) and to do the same thing they did to make the original three Extremes.

Yeah, that's the thing that always makes me angry at this game. They've actually got a fairly good rate of content production and all the assets are in place to make the game feel as fleshed out and complete as it felt in 2.1, but for some reason they're content to just put thousands of man-hours into creating all these encounters with their own unique assets and animations and art directions, and then have them just be a one-off thing that you see exactly once before it gets shuffled off into permanent 'Trial Roulette Only' status, meanwhile the game has been on an extended content drought for literally years now. You are, intentionally or unintentionally, COMPLETELY fucking twisting around what people mean by this.
People are not complaining that old fights are being rehashed when they say that "content is the same shit since 2.0". That is obviously not the case because they haven't "rehashed" a fight since HW launched - to the game's detriment.
What people are complaining about when they say that it's been the same shit since 2.0, they're complaining about the game from a structural standpoint: A new set of Expert Roulette dungeons per patch, a new Trial per patch, a new raid tier and tomestone set every even-numbered patch, a new 24-man instance every odd-numbered patch.
This complaint is exactly the same with or without recycled assets from older content, and the difference between using recycled assets and not using recycled assets is simply that the game's content will feel bare-bones and short-lived if they restrict themselves to entirely original content, and it will feel more substantial and longer-lived if they make use of existing assets to make new fights.

There's nothing "not to get". You're just wrong about it. Garuda HM was not analogous to Leviathan HM or Ravana HM, because Garuda HM was a decently-challenging fight that was part of your endgame character progression, not a glorified cutscene that is impossible to lose and offers no reward other than the continuation of the story. Garuda HM was the equivalent of Ravana EX - and Garuda EX simply -has- no equivalent in the game from 2.2 through to 3.3.
HM and EX for the original three primals were absolutely not regarded as "oh boo, just more of the same". They were six completely separate fights that each had their own place in terms of gearing and progressing in endgame. We have just been getting half as much endgame Trial content per since then.

They actually had this pretty much right in 2.1, too. There was no "Expert" and "High-Level" (or "Level 50/60") roulettes. There was just "High-Level" Roulette, which gave the same rewards that Expert gives now, but were a mix of the three new dungeons for that patch, and the previous max-level dungeons, all together in the same roulette. If they'd just kept doing it like that, you wouldn't get this stupid thing where everybody is sick of the new dungeons after two weeks because it's all they ever do anymore, and sick of the old dungeons because they had to grind nothing but THOSE for three months, and unwilling to even bother with the older ones in the first place because the old-dungeon roulette is shit for capping tomestones.

The only way I can fathom doing it the way they have is to imagine that some dungeon designer pulled a tantrum about how they'd put all that work into three new dungeons every patch, but then by 2.5 there'd only be a 1/17 chance of getting those dungeons.

Yeah. It was nerfed a couple of years ago. On average, you'd see 2-4 Repels, the fourth being the deadliest as you got stuck in a pool of poison that spawns at the back after the second Repel.
But that's not all. After the second Repel, two giant insect adds spawn that have an AoE that inflicts paralyze, and it's tough to dodge as you're also dodging Demon Wall's AoEs. Considering the tight DPS check at that time, it was considered to be on par or more difficult than the final boss of the same dungeon, which was also nerfed.
Thanks to those who lacked the skill to clear such a challenging fight, they lowered Demon Wall's HP and got rid of the adds. Now that boss is merely a husk of its former self. I can't help but feel a little sad when I see its visage now. It used to be such a good boss fight, which had similar intensity of the same boss from past Final Fantasy titles.

Everything is randomly split between party members except tomes (and I think gil as well). If tomes drop from a map, everyone gets the same amount - i.e. you'd get 7 poetics for finishing a boarskin map solo, but even if you had a full party of 8 everyone would get 7 poetics each.
Dragonskin maps are the only maps you shouldn't solo because of the chance for aquapolis. Aquapolis isn't very hard but there's a lot of gil and tomes to be gained (again, not split) and you and all your friends can profit quite a bit from going together.
Not to mention aquapolis is kind of a drag with a small party, and having a bunch of people makes it go much faster. I don't know why it has a 180 sync.

The only fight where I've ever felt short on cooldowns as DRK was Thordan, and that was largely because Thordan was the "I'm sorry baby, I didn't mean it, I love you, I'll never hurt you again" apology to the battered wives that Paladins became while trying to do Gordias.

This post reminded me of another really great thing they did in 2.0 that they then abandoned and never revisited, which was that the 2.0 endgame 4-man dungeons actually had variable difficulty, and a sense of progression. Even though it was literally just two dungeons, the fact that Wanderer's Palace was markedly easier than Amdapor Keep added a ton to the character of 2.0's casual endgame.
They could have easily designed it so that, for instance, Copperbell HM was designed to be as easy as WP, Haukke HM was designed to be as hard as AK, and Pharos Sirius was designed to be harder than either. Then in the next patch, Brayflox could have been as hard as AK, Halatali as hard as PS, and LCoA a little harder than either, and so on.
The end result would have been pretty similar to what actually happened, but every individual patch would feel a lot less 'flat' in terms of all the content being on the same tier of difficulty.
