I'm not going to endorse just shoehorning in the characters but it's possible they could take into account the player's choice from S1 and have it in the context of a wider plot exploring the nature of time travel or other magic powers. I mean how many other sci-fi shows have killed off people only to have them back again with some explainable reason for being so.

I think the best way to progress the story easily would be to not completely forget about Max & Chloe, but not focus on them solely either. Perhaps having a new protagonist for S2 that winds the threads of two stories together.

From a production standpoint, choice games are a touch balance. You want the player to feel like their choices matter, but then you don't want to use lots of resources on the later scenes if not all players will see them. I remember how in the Mass Effect series, if you killed off a character and they were meant to return in the next game, they would just be replaced by a very similar character to keep the story the same, but the dialogue a little different. Then usually the ending will be a big choice because then all that's left is a cutscene.

Until Dawn is the only recent game I've played that does the choice thing fairly well.

In expansion to what I said (knowing I am just kinda rambling for myself now).

Life is Strange has established itself on several themes (in order of strength):

>A game about Arcadia Bay, especially Max and Chloe and their development
>A game about time-travel powers and manipulation of the past
>A coming-of-age tale (in a sci-fi context)
>A point and click game (with a unique artstyle) where choices matter

To really be able to publish a Life is Strange 2, it has to have some connection to the first. How do Dontnod do that? Any of the bottom three would just feel empty without some plot connection. The Walking Dead game got away with an entirely fresh outlook, mechanics and (mostly) cast, but only because they handed over to the secondary character, Clementine, and killed Lee off. Without having done that, a new game would feel empty and lazy. It's not as though Life is Strange has a very wide, established universe to run with.

I agree but that is probably what is going to happen given they've said it won't feature Max & Chloe. They will probably just bring back the time rewind mechanic, but maybe with a new twist on it. And maybe the main character will have some slight link to season one's characters, e.g. the main character is Victoria's cousin from a different town. This is still my favorite fan ending that keep true to what happened in the game. It's doesn't try to answer every question, but it gives enough of an ending to say that they'll be fine.

If Episode 5 did end like Episode 1 then I would have shown:

>Joyce, Frank, Pompidou, and Warren being rescued from the diner

Still questions and plenty of room for imagination, but it gives more closure to the characters we grew attached to and shows an end to the story.

However endearing her request, this is my pastry and it also feels kind of intimate sharing it with a stranger, cute as she may be. So, instead, I take her to the pastry vitrine and tell her to pick one out. She wants everything. I end up buying 5 pieces of pastry, one of each. She introduces herself as Max, and while she is a handful years younger than me, between her intermittent rambling and nibbling on her pastries, I really start to notice how pretty she is, inside and out. For a moment I think maybe I've met someone here, but then her ramblings drift from the topic of photography to someone named "Chloe", and it becomes increasingly obvious that the two are a thing. I actually sense a little disappointment at that.

But when this Chloe actually comes and joins us a few minutes later, all that is wiped away by a sense of genuine delight over how perfectly in love they are; Chloe stealing bites of Max's pastries, both exchanging glances and going back and forth effortlessly, not really being able to concentrate on me anymore over how busy they are, physically and otherwise, with each other.

Eventually they leave together - something about taking Max to Chloe's cave. I can only wonder.
I go to pay for my coffee and muffin and the blonde lady ringing me up, Joyce as I now learn, sighs fondly and asks whether the two aren't just lovely together. I agree, and she responds that they deserve it, been through a lot.

I leave, thinking it's great how love has found its way here again after that tornado hit just two months ago.

Well at least Chloe's back now and fully trusts Max. Poor Kate though, it must be really hard to go back and see her so depressed and hopeless. Unless Victoria does something drastic then Kate is still going to end up on the roof and Max or Victoria WILL have to meet her there to save her.
I'm also dreading how Chloe is going to react when she starts learning more about Rachel and realizes that Max knew already.

There was some dark times after that tornado, along with that nasty business with the teacher drugging girls,but Arcadia Bay has come far. The town's coming back and little acts of kindness like yours speed it up. Joyce was talking about them too, turns out Chloe is her daughter.

I've also seen Max and Chloe myself. Most recently at the parking lot by the trail to the lighthouse. Chloe was skateboarding and Max was taking pictures, until Chloe wiped out and Max went to comfort her. I was going to ask if they needed help but it was clear that the biggest injury was some hurt pride.

The night here apparently was pretty crazy, but when I came back this evening, what really upset me, was seeing only that one lame sullen reply to your super cutepost.

Note that I am not criticizing the game for the magical realism-type elements. Or straight up magic, for that matter. I actually enjoyed that in the game and was upset the writers didn't go anywhere with it in the end. I'm just saying a lot of what happens must be magical in nature. Even if we accept time travel powers, as time travel narratives commonly expect from the audience, there's still stuff that doesn't make scientific sense. And between that stuff and the native american references thrown all over the game symbolically and environmentally, I think it's obvious there's something there that doesn't meet the eye. Stuff like an evil spirit (Pazuzu) being responsible for the storm, and someone having summoned and unleashed him upon Arcadia following the Hopi prophecy (Rachel or Sean, for example).

The spirit doe is heavily implied to be Rachel, and appears either during visions of the storm or when in the Junkyard. Meaning that she's linked to Max's power, which was given to Max specifically for three reasons:
To save Chloe and make her happy, to solve the mystery of what happened to Rachel and other girls, and to help people before the storm.

The only thing I have no idea or thoughts about is how the storm came about. If there were people Rachel cared about in Arcadia Bay then she wouldn't want them to be killed. Unless her death and association with the Natives just created a large influx of power and raw emotion from all those she was friends with. The storm is obviously beyond Max or Chloe since it's still happening in a timeline where Chloe and Rachel never met and where Max never had any powers. But Rachel was still presumably with Frank (Who also took the oath)
