MHG demo SnS was fun as fuck so I'm getting into SnS on 4U after barely touching it all game. What's a good skill set to go for? Should I go offensive skills or defensive skills? I'm good with the weapon but have no idea what skills are ideal.

I'm considering going defensive mode and trying to get guard+, guard up, and constitution if I can. But I'm also tempted to make a build to maximize elemental output instead by going for enlightened blade with elemental crit or something. Thoughts?

Weakness Exploit is the go-to skill for Hammer for me, simply because as a Hammer user you'll always wanna go for the head. Other than that, Hammer doesn't have many skills going for it. Your basic X combo can be comboed after the final hit with a charge (as in the R button), so you have an infinite combo if you ever have the opportunity to wail on a head for an extended amount of time. The charge attack, whatever level it is, that's a dashing uppercut, I sometimes use as an evasive move so keep that in mind if you ever wanna try that out.

As for Styles or Arts, I can't say much.

Guild hammer is classic hit and run with uppercut spam, KO the monster, triple pound. Throw some superpounds in there too for good measure and exhaust.

Adept hammer allows you to adopt a far more aggressive playstyle where you literally walk up to the monster's face and smash it in with triple pounds, then adept dodge if it even tries to hit you back, then use Strong Charge uppercut to get right back in there and smash away.

They both have their merits (Adept hammer humiliates Tigrex because you can stand in his face without fear of him charging), but guild is better for online generally because the uppercut allows you to get in some KO on the monster, then get out before your companions trip your shit.

I tried out Adept Hammer a little earlier and it's fun as fuck, though it felt like it would have had to be a little weaker what with the amazing adept dodge.

Element phial is pretty much worthless in most cases, though I'm sure Black Harvest does well on very dragon weak things with shit hitzones. Dragon phial is JUST tier, you're Axe mode whole fight no question. Status phials you inflict the status in sword mode then go to town in Axe mode. Exhaust phial isn't really worth using at ALL.

^what these have in common is that non-power phial axes are going to be axe centric if you want to do any kind of DPS, so you can forget about the energy charge and demon swordsman arts and use Adept/Guild to get the most out of em, just know you're doing WAY less damage then you could be.

Guild GS or striker if you feel like you have a good enough use for a third hunter art to give up the strong charge and swipe finisher

I feel kind of spoiled, but I have to say no. Hyper Garuga and even level 10 one-eyed both are way easier than 140 Garuga was. It's my favorite monster to fight (with no earplugs/wind res), so to see it so damn easy to fight solo compared to 4U is disheartening. Don't fall for the memes. Weapon balance is pretty good in this iteration and Bush GL is as viable as any other weapon. Just be aware when you use your full bursts, you'll probably want to stick to whatever monster part there's no hunters around.

Yeah but for a while, it seemed like they realised that the two game bundle doesn't work in the West after MHF2 and MHFU. After that, they only localised the G rank versions, MH3U and MH4U, not including MHTri on console.

I was fine with getting games late, as long as they were the final version. But if they're going to release MHXG and localise it, I'll feel like a clown having paid two times for the same product.

Leave GL as a solo weapon, especially if you want to run bushido, where you'll have a much harder time getting perfect guards in a group. That weapon is so incredibly shit that most of the time you'll barely if at all benefit the hunt while using it.

But there isn't any reason to. What I want is for it to be REQUIRED to have many different armor sets to be optimal because that gives you more reasons to hunt more monsters. There isn't much point in picking up strictly inferior sets just for fashion.
