Freedom Wars is a clunkier God Eater with less variety and not as good story and characters. Resurrection is the ultimate version of the original game, worth playing even if you experienced Burst on PSP.

To be fair I've only played Celceta. Story and character was really bland and boring. I rather liked the boss fight, but all the exploration which made up most of the game was also boring to me. Kinda weird that I like DRPG exploring, but Celceta's just bored me.

Oh. Well, it's not like you're gonna find better stories but Ys is about the action and it's generally believed that party system Ys is the weakest style, unless you're too casual for bump system Ys. Boss fights and action is where these games excel, and exploration usually isn't as emphasized as it is in Celceta. I'd say try out Oath in Felghana or, if you're willing to go all the way with the old school, Ys I & II Chronicles. Oath has much better boss fights and Chronicles has some pretty devious level design and just some good ol' fashioned charm. Like I said though, Ys really doesn't put story and characters in the forefront so don't expect that in general. It's still very possible to like older Ys and dislike modern Ys.

I don't really expect mindblowing story or anything, I mean I like the story and characters in Atelier games and theyr'e pretty simple, but Celceta was just too bland.

Yeah the boss fights are good and I like it, it's just that all the walking around "fighting" the mobs to get the boss takes too long. It's like 2 hours of story and walking around the map, 10 minutes boss fight.

I tried to like the game, people praise it like crazy almost everywhere so I kept going waiting for it to get good until the end, but it was still just boring up until the end.

I might try the older one sometime, but desu, considering I tried Celceta after hearing all the praise it got, it made it kinda hard for me to trust another recommendation to the series in general. That I said, I already have Origin, don't know when I'll go around to try it though.

Origin is the one Naphistim-era Ys I haven't played. I've played both Ark and Oath though and I can tell you that while you're still cutting through mobs to get to the bosses, it's WAY more to the point than Seven or Celceta are. It's only with those two games that overworld exploration has started to become an actual thing. I'd say skip Seven and avoid Lacrimosa from the looks of things, but try the older ones as they are different.

I'm torn.

I can only afford a couple of games in the coming months and I've been going back and forth between a few of them.
I was just going to get Gal*Gun and Criminal Girls, but then the Valkyrie Drive announcement happened.
I know most people wouldn't even consider CG2 because of the preemptive and arguably needless censorship of the game among other things. Thing is I got the first one on a whim and was surprised by it. The characters reasons for being in hell in the first place actually changed the game from being this boring slog to something I could really care about. I'm hoping for more of the same from the sequel.

Gal*Gun seems like a no brainer, but just looking at the Vita version and imagining paying 40 USD for it makes me cringe. Technical issues aside the game is going to be short and full of same-y girls. Thing is I really liked rail shooters and I miss the genre terribly, and being a moe shitter this is just right up my alley.

Then there is VD. I really liked SK games but that's the problem, VD just feels like more of the same. The combat looks notably better and the character model quality is great, but I've played so many similar games in recent months I'm not sure if getting another one is the best idea.

Yeah I actually thought CG was a pretty good game. It had a unique battle system and it made you care about the characters. It was just a tad slow-paced. I'll wait for CG2 to drop to $24 before buying it though, although it's not really a far stretch from Amazon's $32.

I never really liked Senran Kagura so I'll be skipping out on VD at least until price drops. Also not really interested in Yet Another Yuri Game, plus not that interested in cowtits.

I'm sure both Gal Gun and VD will go on sale within 3-6 months since PQube likes to drop their prices pretty quickly. But I'm preordering Gal Gun at least.
