There's lots of gear to dress up your characters in.
Raids are challenging to a degree. The harder part is finding seven other competent players.
Good. PvP sucks.
You'll find lots of catsluts and semen demons here.
Communities differ between servers. Get in a good one and you're set.
Healers are recommended to DPS during times when you don't have to heal. Bear this in mind if you're going to main a healer in this game.
Patches last for 3 months on average, and the hardest endgame raids last for 6 months.
Combat invovles a "slow" GCD offset by a fair number of oGCD commands, and plenty of moves have good animations.

1. Do leves to level the craft
2. Get jewed for HQ items that you can't actually make reliably yet at your level
3. Once you can reliably HQ those level items you now become the jew and encourage others to take up crafting

The key is that several crafts have incredibly useful if not vital crossclass skills at 50. Once all of your crafts are at 50, some simple rotations should make HQing 100% of the time easy as long as you're not attempting something blatantly out of your gear's stat range

I cleared A7S last week, though (and was streaming A8S Sunday night). The issue I had was finding a good static on my server. I joined a friend's static, which blew up due to it more being two cliques of four instead of a team of eight. Well you aren't technically, but being self-sufficient isn't necessarily a good thing because if you're trying to gather all the mats you need yourself, you're going to spend a lot of time gathering relatively worthless stuff. So rather than supply yourself with different gathering jobs, it's kind of a better idea to just gather the most lucrative thing you can and then use the money you earn to just buy the less valuable stuff.

I never got Artifact2 for Miner nor did I meld the i150 armor. So I only ever had to deal with P.M. windows but I can see your point. Folklore will always be a gil-maker, though, it will never just stop being used for stuff so there's no rush. I've gotten rich enough where I only consider a certain amount of gil to be worthy of gathering for, so a few windows are cut out from consideration until the market fluctuates.
