I'm on my second playthrough right now, and I've just realized that Merill is right about everything, and everyone was just doubting her talents. And that doubt makes her pre-destined to fail. Why would you ever use Zevran in your party if you're a rogue yourself already? The game NEEDS to have a balanced group or you get fucked really easily. You only really need one good rogue to disarm all the traps and open locks and stuff. Playing with a rogue yourself is easy mode since you can just do that yourself and still backstab the shit out of anything that looks at you funny. You'll still need a healer like Wynne or Morrigan if you make her one and a good tank like Alistair.

The only other companions in my roster at this point are Leliana, Sten and Dog, and I find that they are too much of a drain on health poultices. We do alright in more open maps with me as a melee rogue, Morrigan, Zevran and a tank. I gave Zevran a good bow and he does reliable damage with fire/ice arrows. He'll be an actually good secondary damage dealer after I make him a bard, I like how archers don't have the disadvantage of doing friendly fire.
As for this particular fight, the strategy I used was sending the tank to the enemies, casting force field on them, and showering the battlefield with fireballs and bombs, but Morrigan kept dying because Alistair can't hold aggro properly yet. So having two tanks (one to serve as a meat...rock...shield, the other to protect her) really helped

I liked how you could actually die in the expansion, most games don't dare to mess with the players like that. But yeah, it is really underwhelming in terms of writing and doesn't even have that sense of adventure and becoming progressively stronger like BG did

DA:I doesn't have a save transfer mechanic period. The only way to bring in DA:O/DA2 choices is through the Keep or spoofing it if you're pirating. It should all be in the OP...

15 minutes in Val Royeaux, and I'm already more interested in Orlais, than me after 50+ hours in Ferelden.

I think there are a few things to like about Ferelden. Like the Bannorn, their nobility, King Calenhad, mabaris, the pagans living in the mountains, and how they have to interact with the Avvar.

It's just in terms of aesthetics, they are pretty bland.
