I played through the game for the first time just recently after trying it again even though I hated it when it was new on Steam, but apparently it's really good now.
Marauder, skill into armor, hp and two-handed damage and everything that goes around it. Breezed through the game and picked Berserker as ascension, but from what I understand Juggernaut is the way to go if you don't want to die ever.

I'm trying to come up with a melee/caster hybrid build, and discharge/abyssal cry are the only clearing skills i could think of that would match a melee build nicely.

since stun is based on hit vs your max life, if you go CI (which is usually the case with icestorm) you'll get stunned all the time, especially in high tier maps. It's more that you open yourself up to the possibility of death by chain stun, which can easily happen. It would only take one projectile in a multiple projectile map.

I checked the tree and there would be 4 unconverted nodes. There are some nice intelligence nodes along the path as well, such as the 20 int weapon elemental damage one and the 30 int node. The pathing does look odd, but you do get 150ish intelligence heading down there.

I got Diablo 3 for the free amazon bucks yesterday, but nobody told me that PoE is actually better. One thing that's better so far is I didn't experience any desync issues.

No, ascension creates the illusion of diversity because it makes certain borderline unplayable builds better (like wildstrike), but it also makes already powerful builds even more powerful. That is also the reason have been flocking to voidheart-based builds and juggs/slayer are more popular: they are simply stronger, not only meaning they do more damage, but they also survive better.

Dont blame people for falling into optimal builds either after experimentation or just browsing youtube/twitch, its just what naturally happens when you play an arpg. You can call people unimaginative all you want, but its hard to argue that some builds make whatever endgame you decide is your thing, MUCH easier, and its often the same 3-4 builds.


Which brings us back to the lab; even if get your 2 points with only 1 run, the rewards are too good to pass up, even if you dont like it. This i had mentioned before. near max q gems, 6l chests/weapons, hard to find/expensive cards, raw currency, etc is just too big of a bait. And EVEN after that some people just plain dislike lab.
