You can unlock some outfits by doing step up mode or by getting high enough level, but there's not really any collectibles. No story or any other stuff like that.
There's a Step Up play mode that's sort of like a challenge mode. It has things like "only push X for colorful notes", "do this song with the notes moving faster", do this song and miss less than 30 notes" or "do these two songs and get at least an S rank while notes disappear after 2 seconds" to give you a general idea of what it's like.
If you like IA and you're okay with the game being a bit easier than Miku games then go for it. There's 60 songs included on cart. The "the best" release is pretty cheap so go for that one. Here's the track list:

All good things, now if only they would add actual content to the mysterious series games they would actually be good. Content like side characters interacting with each other and multiple endings, more events where the side characters are actually important to the story being told instead of only having one role to play. Take Monica for example, what the fuck did she do in all of Sophie? Then compare her to some one like Regina or Wilbell.

Monica had some personal development, she got over her fear to sing publically. And then decided to pursue a career on singing. Not everything needs to be have super effect in the games world, just fairly normal people going on with their lifes and own problems.

That's what I like about Atelier games, they're not some grandiose stories about saving the world, though in the end Sophie might have done that anyway with her game. And they offer some little stories about the side characters, maybe I just enjoy them more than most people. Really liked the book shopkeepers little quizzes too, those were charming.

Who's own youthful angst and willpower often work against their own self interest.

It makes sense the tail is the thing that grabs stuff, since the Tail can bend and reach the imprisonment Pod, which the front claws and legs can't logically reach.

That makes me wonder if the Spider has a Grabbing mechanics.

Even with the extended length of games RPG's the likes that were common generations ago aren't attractive to devs. There's a lot of reasons for that, really.

There's a difference between older and more prevalent, anon. Mind you I started my gaming when my old man brought a 2600 home and didn't actually understand what I was doing until halfway through the NES's lifespan so my information is both biased and partially obscured by youth.

From my recollection though, a lot more RPG's had world maps than were straight up dungeon crawls. Actually the first person battle view was really there too, but it was still accompanied by exploration and maps. Actually now that I think about it, as I'm thinking about it, the first RPG I actually finished was Paladin's(?) Quest. I think that's an example

90 second Muscle Booster II and flash grenade spam too.

I wanted to make an ice element sword with elemental damage up XL, L and M because ice swords are cool, but ice procs frequently even at low levels. This will be quite useless then wouldn't it? Especially since you can pretty much only attack the legs of abductors. Though I'm not even making the sword for abductors, but you don't need to mod to kill things that aren't abductors so I don't know guys.

every class is pulling its own weight except for archers

I literally cannot find a use for them other than the fact that they move first, so all they do is heal. They're not even good at that due to their shit DP pools. And what else do they do, crit? Fucking barely because bows have the worst crit bonuses, everyone and their grandmother crits in this game anyway.

Until a short while ago they were the only class that was basically unviable in the front row (now FOEs are hitting too hard for anyone but tanks to be in the front), now they're just dying randomly and eating revives in the back. I don't even see a use in reincarnating them when most of their skills except for 狙いすまし are shit.

The last time I can remember them being useful was against the hot-air balloons in the 2nd dungeon and those random decapitating super-cave fairies in the 3rd. Now half-way through the 5th I'm starting to think I've found the game's objectively worst class.
