Because defense characters, as least as Overwatch terms go, mean they're intended for defending a fixed point or location as opposed to pushing forward into a fortified area. Sure, you can run forward and push with a sniper if you can make that work, but "defense" in this game refers to sitting back and reacting to an advance. You can technically push or fortify with anything, supports and tanks included, it's just a matter of how effective they are at that role.

He is supposed to be a midrange specialist but his weapon dropoff starts at 15m compared to Soldier's 30m. Soldier also has better DPS, 170 vs McCree's 140, is more mobile, has a self-heal and has a much better rightclick. Fan the hammer is probably the most worthless skill in the game right now.

The biggest problem with this hero swapping mechanic is you're just swapping to the same few heroes over and over again, because there is such a thing as most popular heroes, and the second most popular heroes are therefore their counters.

What if McCree's ult was like LC ult?

Instead (at a limited range) you target an enemy and they're forced to duel with you for 5 seconds. The McCree and enemy are both invulnerable except to each other, and can't move, only shoot. Basically a 1v1 fight.

It fits in with his theme of gunslinging and it also acts like another flashbang, in that he has another "stun". However, if the McCree can't aim and headshot well, he would end up dead by the enemy.

It wouldn't be good against everybody, but it would be a good lockdown for Tracer, Mercy, Lucio, etc. Plus it could be on a high charge rate for the ult so it's not up too often.
