Fuck I wanted to have the first post with my Cheeki Breeki, but I'm late as usual... Anyway how hard is the Archon King? Heard he totally trashes your squad like ragdolls. The Viper King was medium hard, the Berserker Queen is so easy it's asinine. She managed to damage my Ranger 3HP and stun him. That's all. Then I got her HP down to half and she escaped. Anybody else think she's EZ?

Unfortunately, the skulljack/skullmine animation doesn't work for SPARK's - but I should be able to use the hack bonus to eventually raise my score high enough not to need the 'jack any more.

Fucking hilarious thing is I literally aim to NOT flashbang snakes because of how retarded it functions - if you do not FB them they will either make a grab (and likely succeed) or shoot (mixed bag).

If you FB them then they will make a grab that fails and then poison you.

Honestly my man, FBs are a godsend against pectoids and other psy units, but applying them to anything, specially Sneks and any ADVENT just sucks, because they always get exponentially dangerous. And I hope you're using the EU Rolls mod, otherwise, flashbangs are downright suicidal, since now, every ADVENT in the map will crit one of your soldiers.

The only "rules" i follow is that i leave them as they are when i first get them, unless they have fancy gear, like halo or something like that, then i'll change it to either anarchy stuff or just kevlar stuff.

Then when i get to T3 i change it to cyberpunkish looking stuff for most and halo gear for the big guys like grenadiers and gunners, psi guys get their own fancy stuff, like skin tight shit or the vanilla tron armor, and fancy hats like either the avatar mask, the vanilla powered helmets or the andromedon hat from the alien rulers.

Huge spike in difficulty

First time facing him, it was inside a building and I had full actions. Grabbed my sharpshooter and went up in the air to get ready to smack him down. The problem wasn't that(since any damage frees them), but that carrying them all the way up triggered the rest of the map that was outside of the building. Afterwards he used devastate, and when it came down, pretty much everyone in the squad who had actions were stunned/shutdown.

Yeah I am using EU rolls, I'm just trying to play on legendary because commander is too easy but I end up facing a lot more straight up bullshit on it. So my guess is, given how frequent I'll get hit by a disoriented enemy in cover, the legendary aim bonus just mitigates any real meaningful impact of the FB. If I recall right the aim penalty is fucking stupid on Xcom2 too - in Xcom1 it was -50 while in Xcom2 it's a measly -20.

The reason why it's called devastate is well, pinions take a turn to launch and hit. This guy is a ruler, so when he uses it? The very next action point you spent will have them crash down on you, with each one having a chance to stun soldiers or shutdown SPARKs. In the worst case scenario, you're usually only getting one guy out of the blast

How many hands do you have total? In OG-xcom, ranks are distributed based on the total number of troops you have. Certain ranks have a limit on how many there are, the most extreme being the final ranks.

Stats are more important than ranks anyway.

Also, soloing missions is always a bad idea imo. The damage system of x-com encourages massed fire since you can roll 0-200% damage, except for explosives which are 50-150%. This means that with armor, many times you can fail to kill or hurt targets even if you hit. One bad roll and someone can end up dead if they don't have backup.

Well fuck me, this was basically a wash.

I kinda want to build a guardian now with:
Field Medic > Covering Fire > Sentinel > Savior/RFS > LNL > RFA/DC

Restorative mist seems worth a try because on large maps I often get chipped by a grenade and want my squad back in top notch form before pushing forward but wasting full medkits on small HP wounds is a pain. One restorative mist should last me a whole mission.

Would basically act as an infantry that doesn't need cover and makes up for the lack of light em up with either RFS or RFA. I've never actually used a unit with either of those before but have had to fight mectoids with them, would be a nice change of pace to have these skills on my side for once.

Does anyone use guardians? Or should I just stick with infantry for this? Or maybe try an overwatch gunner?

Technically goliath gets covering fire too but only has AFC instead of opportunist and its aim progression is so much worse, doesn't seem overall worth it.

As for ranks, I have 5 gals, one swabby, and one boss gal. Up till now I've just been using the 6 seats in the Airbuss, using parrots to fill in if anyone is injured. Only now I've been experimenting with putting people in the single seater jetbike.

You better hope those weren't government forces. You know, the ones that pay you each month not to attack them and bother other people instead? Are you checking the end game score screens, because they have lot's of valuable information.

With 6 gals you can't get very high up on the rank hierarchy. Like I said, I don't recommend solo missions, though I guess that's up to you. You'll also lose the jetbike if they die.

You can check the ship type in the interception screen. If you want to be sure, send out a ship to check out the craft before it land, you don't need to fight it. The UFO looking bottom in the bottome right will display an image of the UFO. Government ships should literally have red and blue lights, like police. Also, factions have very distinct units and looks. If you want to, you can check the PirateZ wiki, or if you want a more organic (and in some ways more fun), just learn as you play the game. You can research the people/stuff you take and that will tell you who they are.

Or take screenshots (F12) and post them here and people will be glad to help you out. Government and Civilians are the only people you don't want to attack without considering the consequences. Everyone else is fair-game, though you will want to know what their strengths and weaknesses are.

They have information and tech and guns. Stuff you want. They also have ships with good loot as well. Its not that you should never attack government ships, but you need to do it with more purpose. Also, you generate less score for capturing them alive, and they are also more valuable that way.

So basically you're weighing tech, info, and loot with the repercussions of having you're funding lowered. Definitely don't bother shooting down their ships. More negative score and less of the positives.

I'm actually playing on version .98a currently and refuse to upgrade because its complicated and so much is added in .99 I don't feel like changing my entire game.

It's extremely stable, I've been playing my campaign for nearly 4 in-game years now. I believe it has an ending, never heard that it doesn't, but I can tell where its going from the in-game research/lore (The lore/world building is surprisingly excellent by the way). People are enjoying .99 right now so its up to you.

These Hoppers are what i've been shooting down in Leu of civilians. No lights, but they are often crewed by military police and guys in black armor with assault rifles and even light cannons.

I'll take pictures next time i bag one. This one I shot down but I might not get to because all my guys are injured. How long do crash sites last? I'm going to wait three days for half my guys to be healed.

It's my secret storage base, it was there for a few years. Recently I demolished all enemy hideouts and they decided to plop a new one next to mine.

In Piratez it's not really worth farming supply ships because they all have several meme nuke launchers which they either shoot at you or the ground after they inevitably panic and destroy anything valuable. Not to mention the self destruct that occurs after 20 turns because timers were such a fucking great idea so lets fuck up a perfectly good old game with them.

2) Personally I don't feel like X2 is lacking in terms of actual tactical gameplay right now. For people complaining about "no engagements, alpha strike simulator"... well, I don't know what to tell you, because I routinely get into huge running firefights. If you're going to use mods, then A Better Advent, Better Pods Plus, some new enemy mods, and anything else you want to add should get you what you want. Additionally, the timers mean that you can't faff about blue moving and overwatch camping forever, which i think is a step up. I know a lot of people can't git gud and handle the pressure though.

3) Where I feel X2 is most lacking is the strategic game. If there were some kind of air game (although not LW style, fuck that noise), if you could interact with different resistance factions, if you could be more proactive in taking the war to the Ayys...there's a lot that could be done there. This is what I would really like to see an overhaul mod focus on. As >>148032809 says, pretty much every game feels the same, and it feels too short. You can easily skip most of the research and proving grounds projects etc.

I shoved a whole bunch of gameplay modifications in XCOM 2, with one of the goals being to prolong firefights. This causes a problem with timers, and I wanted to more or less get rid of them because balancing it would be ludicrous. I did just that by installing customizable timers and setting them all to 99. However, I also installed additional mission types, and that timer mod also affects those as I found out when firebrand was set to return in 99 turns.

Is there any way to extend timers for regular missions, while leaving those in the additional mission types untouched?

Found out the solution without that

Digging through the timer customization ini in more detail, a method was listed to modify specific timers, and a list of all the default timer objectives was given. All I have to do is to modify every one of them to 99, which will make the additional timers added through the mod untouched.

Read the documentation folks!

At the very least, you need to plan on either a: minimizing being hit(smokes, flashbangs, etc), or b: planning on being able to take hits. A good commander will do both, as this is XCOM, and no amount of flashbangs will stop a 1% critshot against your favorite troop

You should be able to actually do stuff, like send some of your elite soldiers to train the rebels in exchange for supplies, or set up the ambush against ADVENT convoys, more like Jagged Alliance 2 seriously, in JA2 you are a mercenary group, but the freedom make me feel more like a freedom fighter, meanwhile Xcom2 is the opposite, i am suppose to be the leader of the freedom fighters yet all i do is wait for new contracts like some sort of mercenary group

Old ranger got split into assault and some weeby sounding ninja class. Both start with Fleche, which is a sword attack that deals +1 damage for every 3 tiles you move to use it, and can basically 1 shot everything in the early game and carry your ass.

I used them in my last campaign. Their good for long missions or back up mec's on missions that are not to serious. The mist is an AOE so you can get people going again really fast. That and overwatch with a mec weapon hits really hard, especially with guardian. They really shine in base attacks since you don't have to bring more med kits. I usually kept them towards the middle or backline. They tend to take the hits instead of your backline troops. And the overwatch shots keep anything except the nastiest enemies from getting close to your line or sneaking up. I wouldn't suggest more than one or two. But their really nice when you need them and still hit really hard considering their "support".

I used to do the precision shot fuck you crit snipers as well. They were useful mid game vs shit like mectoids.

But one day I tried out the sniper build I outlined above and fell in love with it. Can basically solo take out entire pods of fliers, and then disabling shot the big threats so you can chip away at it or ignore it for a turn.

And then my crit Hit and Run rapid fire pathfinders take over the role of FUCK YOU, late mid game and onwards, with 3 100% crit shots against priority targets.

I use so many smoke grenades in xcom. Literally I order at least 100-200 per month. Its gotten to the point where I can't comprehend playing the game without smoke. Everyone has two - three smokes, and as the squad advances, people just drop them on the ground to create this creeping smoke cover across the entire map.

At this point I just imagine everyone in SAS masks, and the enemy just shaking in their boots as this smoke wall just rolls closer and closer with periodic pin point fire spurting out and cutting down their friends. Even when someone in my squad dies they drop all their primed smoke grenades, immediately obscuring their body, probably leaving the enemy wondering if they actually got them.

Usually it's just the .ini.

Also just so you know, .upk files are the packages that contain all the stuff like models, textures, sound, effects and so on. .int are the localization files, so like, the description of the gun when you buy it. .u file i'm not sure what it is, but i think it's generated automatically by either the SDK or Steam. .uc files are the "code" that make the mod.

With the exception of the .u and .upk files you can open everything else with notepad++ if you're curious about what goes inside. To look inside the .upk files you'd need the sdk though.

ABA with Pods+ changes stuff up quite heavily, and really makes you worry about the ayys that you encounter.

I'm still in the early game, but so far all three missions that I've done have been long war tier, with engagements piling on along with the wounds. You really have to change how you do threat assessment, because even basic troopers are shitty. Pod pops in, who do you prioritize? That advent adept who has psi? The demolition trooper who has an upgraded grenade and isn't afraid to hold back with it? Maybe that trooper heavy with 3 armor(but less hp)? Or the sharpshooter trooper who has Lightining Hands and isn't afraid to use it before firing his rifle? That's just one variation of a pod, there's a lot more.

It's really chaotic, and shit goes flying around in fifty ways during battles. I have it balanced out with a few timer tweaks, as well as an increased squad size(6, upgraded to 8). Even then it's a struggle, but I'm having a lot of fun.

Honestly not that heavily. You can buy high ranked troops from the HQ/BM, even Colonels once you get to late game. I'd continue doing what you're doing, but just keeping them 2-3 ranks below your A team(until they're Colonels). It gives you more time to pamper your A team and have a lot more chances to counter the bullshit in the later aliens

Actually its the other way around. Considering that Firaxis makes expansions for all their games, and XCOM 1 had an expansion, and they said in an early interview that the first three DLC do not take the place of an expansion, and XCOM 2 is a commercial success. All evidence points to an expansion.

Current evidence means the burden of proof would be on the person claiming there won't be an expansion.

Dude, in the link I sent you, the director of the game all but flat out states there's more content in the oven, and while Firaxis has it's flaws, not releasing more content is not one of them (if anything, it's the opposite, seems like their games only get complete after all the expansions are released).

As for money, XCOM 2 has been constantly on the top sellers since it's release, and is probably as big as a hit as anything without "Sid Meier" in the name they'll ever make, it's obvious they're not dropping it altogether, specially when you think Civ VI will still take a while and that the game is coming to consoles.

Defend resistance haven and the rescue VIP during a riot are definitely what I want to see in an Xcom2 expansion. It's a lot of fun to have those "base defense" style operations where the timer is how long until -you- get saved, not how long until fission mailed. Always a lot more fun when the timer is not to an insta-lose but rather just getting harder and harder


Close Combat specialist is also broken as fuck. I love it but man it seems too OP. Maybe there should be an accuracy penalty with each successive shot.

Then again Not created equal can really make or break it so maybe it's not so OP without it.

Sacrifice is pretty good, but it's the final ability and by the time you get a SPARK that high you don't really need a tank.

Assaults, Rangers, and Gunners are all insanely powerful.

Shinobi are phantom scouts so they are good by default even if they never attack, early game Fleche can 1 hit everything, and with reaper they are pretty good at pods of biological squishier troops.

Grenadier is pretty good, viable support nade build alongside usually cover destruction and AoE damage.

Specialist isn't changed too much from vanilla, still alright.

Sharpshooter is really gear/map/enemy dependent.

But there still influence on the release schedule, I doubt they'd put an expansion pack for sale during the first months of Civ VI, specially considering the overlap of players (I've never met anyone who liked one without liking the other, don't know about you people though), but that's not even my original point. I don't know when Civ VI is dropping, but my point is, if they want to release something (for whatever reasons), XCOM 2 is their best shot, since they won't need to make a full game and the game is still generating interest and goodwill on people.

Stellaris is trying to be a 4x GSG hybrid, and it's a good effort, but right now it's not doing a very good job in either category.

One thing about it I do like however is that each citizen has it's own species and ethos which effects it's happiness. Unhappy citizens are supposed to form factions and try to rebel, but right now that's not properly integrated. In Civilization games Species would be culture, and ethos would be ideologies.

Xpac in the works, DLCs are Ayylmao Kangs (Alien Hunters) and Lily's Robodong (Shen's Last Gift). Both are pretty decent and add a solid amount to the game.

Oh, we page 10 all the time, but there's some hot new memes, we have several modders around (Mercenary Weapons guy is a boss; that railgun teaser anon is around somewhere too), and there's OC from time to time. We generally discuss X2, Piratez, EW LW, and sometimes even 94com, so anything goes.

We also occasionally /k/ommando, snekpost, cyclopspost, and generally shitpost around. It's a good general, come shitpost my with us my friend.

I don't think you could "solve" Xcom2 even if you wanted to, there's way too many mods, this isn't Xcom1 where you only had long war. Considering the million of different gameplay mods there are, there will never be a single way to "solve" the game.

There are 2 big reworks out i think, Spectrum and A Better Advent, and there's some weird gay furry total conversion mod in the works, a remake of orginal Xcom, and one called Guerilla War, which is probably the one that shows the most promise.

There are a lot of gameplay mods, complete reworks, alien mods, classes mods, weapon mods and so on.

We have 3 dlcs so far, one added "mecs", one added super alien enemies, and the other is just cosmetics that make you look like mad max rejects.

Are there any newb trap things I need to know about this game? Someone was saying that flash bangs are actually MORE DANGEROUS to use sometimes. That is stupid.

In EW you had the progressively ramping up UFO sizes and types that made you feel tinier and tinier to spice things up in-between the same old cities

In X2 the cities never get more decrepit/larger/fancier/emptier, it's the same deal up until the story missions i just want ufo landings back is all

I enjoy psi as a seperate class becuase it's let's them actually focus on the psi aspects, and let's them get away with crazier abilites since they don't have normal soldier skills at the same time.

However, I do agree their progression is pretty boring. Maybe you could make it so you're normal soldiers could kinda of swap classes. Either have them be pure psi, or let them keep some of their original classes perks. I like the idea of the hybrid soldier class. XCOM2 still handles psi the best of any game imo because in the vanilla game you actually get to use it, and even though its good, it doesn't break the entire game.

In x-com psi broke the game making it easy and boring, in xcom 1 you really only got psi at the very very end and probably only just had the volunteer.

Every map is not only breathtaking, but there's always some new shit that's added and never seen before.

Just had a mission where I was engaged with two pods, and the path to get my ranger to a flank spot on their target involved using the overpass ladder. He stepped up on the single tile and activated another pod into the mix that ended up injuring multiple people in my squad and killed one. Not to happy about that. It's the same campaign. The only difference is in mechanics and difficulty. Long war starts out easier than EU or EW if you're liberal with grenades, but it very rapidly ramps in difficulty after the first month or two. If you've beaten EU on Classic you're probably ready to start Long War on the easiest difficulty.

You need advanced interrogation tactics. Once you have those, you can "manufacture" broken prisoners, in this case a broken Provost. That should yield a card. I'm double-checking right now to be sure.

I've personally never seen either as well. Also, you may not have Death and Glory because you need to capture a Solar Governor (top guy for government forces). That's probably the missing key.

I've also only seen the Deep ones once.
