Icelandic is relatively speaking close, although certainly farther than the big three. Icelanders can understand a good chunk of speech from most of the others, but not the other way around. Again, there's plenty of precedent in the nineteenth century for speakers of "dialects" with barely any mutual intelligibility with the standard form of the language becoming parts of a national union.

I am in the war with everyone. Unfortunately, while the AI will naval invade Italy in 1940, they won't touch Japan. In two previous play throughs as France and Canada, I got as far as China, had to ask my allies for control of the state, build it up while researching and developing the forces to take Japan. As France, this took me about two years. As Canada, it took me much longer.

I will have to research the air doctrine tree, fighters and naval bombers, build those, as well as transports and paratroopers, and then follow it all up with some decent land troops.

In my play-through as Canada, the US sent a bunch of troops to follow mine up in Japan, and did nothing but ruin my supply.
