1.4 is taking long because AO3 and STCoP are being re-done. The addon script for these mods caused a lot of problems that are fixed. Also engine additions allowed us to make these mods look 'official'. You can drag scopes onto guns now and scopes highlight for weapons, just like normal addons. The ui_equipment_icons was also trimmed by half because of new engine addition to layer icons. 1.4 is also being redone as a new full release. 1.2 and the installer are being tossed in the garbage. 1.4 will be just be zipped up directory of the full mod.

do yourself a favor and always download the latest full manual patch from moddb. the cocdater is good for small, incremental updates, but very slow if you're going from base to 1.3.20 for eg. downloading tiny files one by one is always going to be a bad idea when there's a lot of them due to the per-file request latency and overhead, which is why the large single patch file is better.

other shitty mechanic is randomizing getting stashes as rewards for quests, the very stashes that have a random chance of holding tools that are a core mechanic. all this does is force you to do quicksave/load before turning in a quest. could understand if the die was rolled at the time the quest was created, but doing it at turn in time is just bad design.

tools should be proper location-based quests. mechanic tells you where you can find them, several maps away if needed and even further for advanced tools.

this whole part of the game needs improvement. 1.4rc1 is a great step forward so hopefully we'll see more of this kind of cleanup.

backup your gamedata folder before installing any mods. to revert to base coc, remove any modded gamedata folder, copy back your pure gamedata folder, run cocdater

The two diverge in many points past the base provided by Bardak.

Once you join any faction in the zone, I could imagine you "changing faction" from within the PDA, for whatever reason, be flagged as betrayal unless the faction head knows of this (or your faction members). Imagine a bandit changing to "loner" to make his life as robber more easy. Or a Freedom changing to Duty so nearby vicinity Duty members won't feel at danger.

It was both a new layer of chaos as much as it was cool and confusing. Why not emphasize on this feature and have tasks for NPC requesting a "neutral PDA" (who said a NPC cant have 2 PDA for 2 different factions) and have the reward influence your relation to said faction and also have a detractor to the faction not benefitting from doing this quest (example above; Duty / Freedom requesting either PDA of the other faction).

You could even make it a "power balance" idea and have them ask you to kill someone, get their PDA so they can copy their identity for whatever reason.

I have Argus PRZ, Absolute Nature, Vehicle Retexture and some other small texture replacements as a packed db for vanilla SoC.

I was tired of bloating my mod folder for a passive graphical boost.

Now I can switch back and forth provided I remember to remove the textures.ltx file.

Also made NPC skins and bumpmaps to replace vanilla ones. All the new bumpmaps are called by thm files packed with the new textures, so I don't have to worry about missing or mismatched bumpmaps.

The NPC skins are drag and drop. Though there are some skin fixes in there that require edited meshes (I added skin variants for some Monolith, Freedom and Loner meshes that better match the uv maps).

Look up the V92 texture packs in the Joint Pak 2 pastebin in the 2nd post if you plan to do this. He meant it to be usable beyond OP-2. It does a good job for op-2, haven't tried it more generally.

OP-2 and some other Russian mods (most of Shadows' stuff for eg) tend to have mods be in db files so it's easy to add and remove. All for SoC of course, db layouts seem more complex after SoC.

It's amazing how much better STCoP is than AO3 now that I've played it a little. Aside from the major things like the economy and weapon damage, little things like having 9x39 PAB, SP5 and SP6. AO3 doesn't have PAB.

I found out insert brings up that menu. But when i click switch control to be manual. ANd i add a smart terrain name. ANd i click Defense squad. My men do not take the area. A squad will spawn. but they do not go to that terrain name.

Certainly, only its compatibility with newer versions of CoC is spotty to my knowledge. I remember playing earlier versions with 1.3.09 and having a blast. Look around on ModDB, maybe people have tested it with 1.3.20 or the 1.4 RC. I know they have a GitHub or something as well, might have some compatibility info.

Seeing Call of Chernobyl, I wish I still had the energy and time to put into modding STALKER. I wanted to make a mod centered around surving inside 100 rads for SoC. You'd have to portion out food for the other survivors, hunt boars, try to find potable water and get contact with the outside (or pathfind your way out on your own- it was really open to different endings).

I kind of had a thing for characters that didn't fight in the zone. It was so easy for people to just treat it like a cheap FPS rather than the atmospheric thing we know it to be. One such character I imagined was a man who earned his living only by playing cards, and whose tarot readings would invariably become true. He would walk unarmed through the zone, favored by the living thing that is the zone simply for treating it with respect. Contrast Strelok- trying to pave his own way.

I had all these ideas, but not enough time or energy. It's a shame.

That seems quite close to the same setting, yeah. Only that it's kind of established that anomalies move, and it could be a simple case of getting blocked in by moving anomalies instead of having everyone moved to a certain place.

And it doesn't seem to have the same focus on A-life. You'd be giving out ammo, food, guns, all that shit, probably as some duty (or just impromptu) leader or something.
