Huh, Baldr Sky's getting done? That's good. No idea about Sekai Project though.

I know I'm mostly doing this to myself but for anything where you can only level up abilities you have equipped, the moment one hits max level it gets retired. It's always really regretful when one I like level caps. At least it makes you rotate skills and learn how to make what skills are on hand flow into each other.

The gameplay itself's fun but what Baldr Sky excels at is constructing the context it's held within. Cultivates a high-stakes feeling very well at points.

I'm not envious of him, though? I'm glad he was successful in Japan. He's honestly probably one of the best translators we have and I'm looking forward to his secret project.

That being said he's kind of dumb in conversation, I've talked to him more than a few times. He's really silly and has bizarre opinions on stuff. Reading some of his reviews reinforced this opinion because some of his compliments/criticisms are pretty out of proportion with what is actually wrong/good about the game, etc.

When that game was released, it was pretty much entirely ignored on /jp/ except for two things - one, the system was kinda weird, and two, the girls can reject you if you confess too early. As seen in pick related, protag-kun is absolutely shit on.

No it all depends on the utilized font. If it can stand out in the background colors than transparent is the way to go.

I had my PE textbox completely transparent but would switch it to about 1/3rd when the scene was taking place in the garden since there was nothing but bright colors there and the text had no dark outline.

Not true, Mangagamer does very well for themselves and have a dedicated following. They have games on Steam too but many purchase through their site as well. Euphoria was one of the best sellers, for example. To say that units do not sell at all is to be intellectually dishonest.

Not an argument. Most people do not want to support censorship in any form, period. It's the idea surrounding it rather than the content.

Of course, we understand that wanting to sell on Steam means that all-ages version WILL be on Steam as a result. What is important is that the 18+ version is an option and it isn't thrown off to the side to do many months more down the line. It should have the same priority as the all-ages version on steam. And I would also argue that it shouldn't be DLC either.

I've had to suffer through bad censorship in other mediums, like literature, music, etc. and I don't want to support any normalization of it.

It's really dependent upon your interpretation. I don't particularly see what the issue is with shaming adult content like sex and what not. There are many well renowned books that don't shy away from this and I don't see people trashing those for having that sort of content therein. Media like moege are supposed to emulate actual relationships (or, at least, emulate the foundations and generalized aspects of these relationships) and that includes sex. There's a reason why romance novels are so popular with college aged students and though the comparison might not be apt I think the two are more-or-less along the same lines of intent for including these kinds of content, though doubtless many VNs do include sex primarily to boost sales in Japan.

And though sometimes the H can be intrusive and awkward (usually happens in plotge) it is an aspect of the original product and as such I don't think it should be forgotten. There's an opera called Z mrtvého domu (From the House of the Dead) based on the same novel by Dostoyevsky, and in it there's a scene where the prisoners depict sexual acts on one another during a play. For many years this part of the opera was edited out during performances of the work because it was deemed not to be tasteful and as such audiences never heard the music accompanying it. Though it may seem to be an over-exaggeration to draw a parallel between these two kinds of censorship, I believe similarly worse things could happen to visual novel localization in the west for the future is this kind of censorship is normalized in any way. How much longer before entire scenes are cut out because they're deemed not culturally appropriate for the west? It's a slippery slope that I think no one wants to go down, even if the off-chance at such a thing happening is slight.
