Dominions is a fantasy turn-based war game created by two dudes. One of them is a teacher.

The game combines a simple presentation with an extremely wide array of strategic options, including over 2800 units, 800 spells and 300 magic items. Turns are resolved simultaneously, with players planning battles rather than directly controlling them.

It has simplistic graphics but is easily moddable and extremely deep.

Basically, it's an autist’s wet dream of a war game.

Alternatively, Ozzies lack magic weapons, and aren't immune to Rigor Mortis.

And he only has 1200 Ozzies. I sort of just had around 5k spectrals lying around in the area just by coincidence.
>>
>>147669308
Is this summod? Otherwise MRN will fuck ghosts over. Unless you buff them.
>>
>>147669384
He'll definitely cast army of lead.
>>
Listen, Jotunheim. When you're the last one to get your turn in, do a double. A "double" is when you send in your turn, wait a minute, get the new turn, play the new turn, and send it in right away.

It's not like your turns should take more than a few minutes at this point anyways.
>>
>>147669879
Eyy, sorry about being a shitter but I'm really exhausted all the time, and I keep spending hours lying awake in bed instead of doing turns because I think that if I just lay there long enough I'll eventually fall asleep. Which usually works.
>>
>>147668130
Actually, it'll take at least three to put a serious dent in it, and that's a ton of gems. You could have a more effective result with one demon cleansing and two rain of stones.
>>

>>
>>147697991
On that note, are mercs ever worth it?

I've got no idea where they even spawn.
>>
>>147698343
They spawn in the province you had selected when you bid on them. They're okay for expansion and some of the mages can help you pick up stuff that isn't normally available to your nation. Other than that, not often.
>>
>>147698343
They "spawn" in the province that you select when you hire them. Any mercenaries that can expand on their own are worth hiring, and they can also help win early game wars when a fresh block of 30 medium infantry actually has an impact. Later on, they fall off dramatically in usefulness, since a commander's worth of infantry will start mattering much less than another mage (except for the mages, which are quite nice if they have paths that you're otherwise lacking)
>>
>>147698343
For expansion they can be quite handy, and rarely there's a useful merc mage around the place.
>>
>>147698392
Mercs have 3 purposes imo:
Expansion, the primary purpose. Plenty of Merc groups can take indy provinces for a price cheaper than an expansion party, and can appear in any province you own.
Magic Diversity: Sometimes, a mercenary mage can break you into a magic path you don't have. Gote here is notorious, as he can jumpstart your blood eco.
Seige Chaff: Especially in lategame, sometimes multiple mercs will be available for cheap since they haven't been bought recently, and can act as on demand chaff for seiging down forts.
>>
>>147698840
For mid/lategame they can be useful to take a few provinces as well.

As you said, they're usually available cheaply for the number of troops they give. Either your enemy sends their own, more expensive troops to take them down or you get extra provinces.

So /domg/, do you want to see planes in Dom4, similar to the ones in CoE4? The possibilities are interesting, invading an elemental plane to kill powerful summons and secure phat stax of gems, or opening portals to the inferno or astral planes to spite a foe. It would spice up the endgame and give wish rush players another way to fuck over everyone.
>>
>>147710078
Flatus has a good idea with a terrible execution. Making planes with balanced but strong indies and good rewards is pretty neat, and woul allow people to rush them in hopes of gaining early advantage, or gang up on a person who's rushing them.
>>
Is T3L3 in LA ever viable outside of popkill nations?
>>
>>147710412
It is on some nations, especially ones with shitty troops but good mages/summons. Patala comes to mind.
>>
>>147710078
Does magic of other elements work in a particular elemental plane?
>>
I believe not. In LA you need gold not ocassionally, but every darn turn, so T3 is not an option. T1 is the bottom.

>>147710717
meant to >>147710412
>>
>>147710078
sounds like a different way to make a global/summoning spell that is actually more interactive with the game mechanics, and also give rush players another way to play the game, which can be seen as healthy, especially by their neighbours.
i like it, but how do we do it?
>>
>>147711984
We? Only by making custom maps. Illfraud? Only if we pay for all their expenses.
>>
>>147711984
It would be cool if global spells only affected the plane they're cast on.
>>
>>147712390
>>147712552

we can't mod in provnces if not with custom maps, but we can make events that summon armies in our provinces and rewards us if we defeat them.If we can't go to the elemental planes we can have the elemental plane going onto us.

No, no on map planes.

They are always more or less pointless.

Only way I could see planes as a good idea is if there were spells that allowed interaction with them offmap. Like you open a portal to a plane of fire and it can give certain results, things like that.
>>
>>147716841
So like what >>147713054 suggested?

>Open portal to plane of fire

It could be just like the arena fight except against a guardian or something.

While the concept is really nice, the AI is still really bad at actually playing the game even if you give it a huge pretender chassis and fistfuls of gems to play with.

HOWEVER, what I could totally see happening is a whole bunch of pre-scripted battles that are designed to be really difficult to beat, but not unfair (IE, no 20x RoS casts on the first turn) which give rewards that might be otherwise unobtainable (Units, Supercasters, SC chassis, gems, items).

Accessing planes should be possible with (semi-rare) sites on the main map, or with high-cost, high-path ritual casting that open permanent gates, which might have other effects on the province they're used in, or nearby provinces.

So yeah, I would like to see planes in Dom4.
>>
>>147724945
It would automatically cast 'Astral Purity' global enchantment which would result in angel attacks on mages casting Blood rituals/forging Blood items, thus making the game much more pleasant for everyone involved.

Immortality is the one which may be problematic, as there's no way to tag who cast the wish, though it could assume whoever has astral 9+ did it. Even then, it'd just transform them into a generic immortal body, I'll think on how to make that better.

Nothing wrong with that, wish has plenty of useless wishes(and the game itself has plenty of useless spells and units).

You're in charge of making a Dominions 4 movie where 6 nations will duke it up with each other. You'll have to cast the nations for the following roles

-The beginning antagonist who is actually being used by the real antagonist
-The real big bad antagonist
-The confident nation that gets curbstomped to show just how strong the real antagonist is
-The seemingly good nation who will make a pact with another but actually betray it for its own interest (the alliance may or may not be with the previous one)
-The bro tier nation who will sacrifice itself to save/help protagonist nation
-Protagonist nation

Who do you cast? Which age do you choose?
>>
>>147727098
>-The beginning antagonist who is actually being used by the real antagonist
C'tis
>-The real big bad antagonist
Ermor.
>-The confident nation that gets curbstomped to show just how strong the real antagonist is

>-The seemingly good nation who will make a pact with another but actually betray it for its own interest (the alliance may or may not be with the previous one)
Arcoscephale
>-The bro tier nation who will sacrifice itself to save/help protagonist nation
Marverni
>-Protagonist nation
Ulm
>>
>>147727098
Of course shit deserves a trylogy for each Era. So for EA:
>-The beginning antagonist
Sauro
>-The real big bad antagonist
Lanka
>-The confident nation
Oceania or some other UW shit
>-The seemingly good nation
Ermor
>-The bro tier nation
Arco
>-Protagonist nation
Machaka

Now that was fun.

>Isidore of Seville [7th century CE] (Etymologies, Book 12, 2:12-13): The Greek word rhinoceros, meaning "with horn in nose," refers to the same beast as the names monoceros or unicorn [Isidore does not distinguish between them]. This is a four-footed beast that has a single horn on its forehead; it is very strong and pierces anything it attacks. It fights with elephants and kills them by wounding them in the belly. The unicorn is too strong to be caught by hunters, except by a trick: if a virgin girl is placed in front of a unicorn and she bares her breast to it, all of its fierceness will cease and it will lay its head on her bosom, and thus quieted is easily caught.

stop recruiting lesser mages.
"compress" your research mages by ensuring every not major mage has a lightless lantern.
alchemize every fire gem that doesn't need to be made in lightless lantern.
try to sell items and gems to other players ( you can make great deals if you have finished researching and want to sell lanterns to players who fell behind).
look for all your provinces and gather crappy units, suicide them.

and of course going to war is still the top option when your income is struggling: it's clear that you won't grow any faster than your opponenets in the future so it's time to reap.
Every troop and mage loss will free up your income, so you are more likely to be ok with risking a small army of mage going into war and taking unimportant provinces by spamming water lementals and crappy spells.

Scepticism doesn't mean atheism. He might say perfectly reasonable things like "hey, what if our god is just a peasant who found 50 fire gems and learned to do magic?". And he will be right in most cases. Pantokrator created the whole metaplot revolving around him, that's why he fucked all female pretenders, sired half of the monsters in the world, and chained another half in the underworld. Basically, the true god is the one who can control reality of the world in its whole, pretenders are just magically/physically powerful mages.
>>
>>147809626
that's not a correct way to view it:

pantokrators are not very special or godlike.
They are just big mages who went into politic.

One is free to disagree with their policies and ideologies. and let's be honest: despite being really potent aspirant pantokrators just lie about their stature to their followers and skeptics just don't like that.they know you are bullshitting.

Any peasant with 500 astral pearls can do it. Magic is the primal force of the world that has no a priori connection to the divine. Magic can be used to aqcuire godhood (and most archmages/liches etc essentially do it), but it doesn't mean that every mage is a god. Pretendership is like an election entry fee, and that's basically it.

Even if they could, it's the difference between doing it with 500 astral pearls and just by accidentally thinking about it.

Yes it's an election, and this election makes you a god. Faith has direct influence over the world, some pretenders exist solely because people thought they existed(Fetish Idol)

The text doesn't specify what they are skeptical towards. Even if the sceptic agrees that a pretender exists and is a god, said sceptic could still easily make a number of arguments that you should not go so far as to worship him.

Whether or not a pretender is a god is very arguable too, they're clearly not omnipotent nor omniscient.

>>147809789
>hey, what if our god is just a peasant who found 50 fire gems and learned to do magic?". And he will be right in most cases
Not even close.

Firstly, human mages make up a very small selection of the available pretenders. Most of them are ancient leftovers from the times back when the pantokrator was still around.

Secondly, it's much more likely that human mages in dominions learn their magic paths rather than empowering. Empowering seems to be an extremely expensive shortcut, which is only possible when you have a nation behind you feeding you resources. Further, if you consider the ages of recruitable human spellcasters, gaining a single level in fire magic looks to require years of study.

Thirdly, human mages almost always have way higher paths than just F1. Many will have multiple paths at 4+, where a single path at even close to that level is typically the work of a lifetime for humans.

>>147810271
>Pantokrators are gods not pretenders.
It's implied that the pantokrator left long before the game actually 'starts'. Only the oldest beings are likely to have firsthand knowledge of those times.

Pretenders are the closest thing to the pantokrator which a philosopher will see or hear about.

Can basalt kings be good thugs?

Vine shield, ice brand, iron skin, water body, quicken self doesn't sound too bad I think?

What does ice shield exactly? I know it stops attacks but does it also stop the caster fROM acting too?

>>

Yeah it's pretty good, especially for all those NEETs who can't forward ports properly. I played llama blitz once. It was awful.
>>
>>147814020
Ice shield will not prevent your mage from acting - it does the same thing as flying shield. Which means a 50% chance of acting as a 20-prot shield parry, in case you didn't know how flying shield works.

I've heard Basalt kings can make acceptable SCs. They're a bit expensive for a thug in my opinion, especially being cap-only.
>>
>>147815989
So it worth casting then? I'm not really knowledge about SC or thugs. Are 5 buff spells too many?
>>
>>147816297
>So it worth casting then?
Maybe, depends.

On the positive side, it's probably the most effective form of protection against physical attacks which is available to Basalt Kings, and it lacks downsides (unlike ironskin, stoneskin, liquid body).

On the other hand, a Basalt King with some form of armor plus a vine shield generally doesn't need any extra protection against physical attacks. It's also not usable outside the water, and I don't see much need for Atlantis to use SCs underwater.

Generally I'd drop it in favor of more useful buffs (or even just leaving the slot open for reduced fatigue), but if I was fighting enemies with especially nasty melee attacks I could see myself using it.

>Are 5 buff spells too many?
Depends on a lot of factors. You want to be back at 0 fatigue quickly if possible, because fatigue is very bad for thugs or SCs.

In most cases, 5 spells will be too much for thugs. Usually you won't even have 5 useful spells for a thug to cast anyway.

SCs can usually handle 5 spells, but it depends how much fatigue the spells cause, how much reinvigoration they have, and how well protected from physical attacks the SC is. I'd probably start getting worried if your SC isn't back to zero fatigue within 10 turns from the end of the buff cycle.

How do I expand as Ys?
>>
>>147882487
On land - sacreds. They run over everything.
UW - not sure, but probably the 50g knights. Depending on your bless, you can still use the sacreds against things that aren't shark or amber tribe and rely on their defense to tank, but tridents actually hurt
>>
>>147882641
>UW expansion

UW has like, one province type that's even moderately difficult. 50-100 Ichytids and atlantean provinces are a joke.
>>
>>147882945
It depends on your bless and how many sacreds you bring. Shark tribes and ichtyids can kill your sacreds (ichtyids have nets, which drop def to 0). Amber clan, and trooper / knight provinces can also be lethal if you don't bring enough dudes. On land, you can safely expand with like 2 sacreds. UW you will almost always need more.
>>
>>147883226
Ys is kind of a strange case because their sacreds become among the best in the game period on land, for some reason.

Ys underwater troops are probably the worst in the game on average in terms of price/quality. I'd consider them inferior to indies.

Infantry costs extra compared to indies and has worse than average att/def plus no protection. Protected versions cost way too much resources to mass fast in UW.

Sacred and non sacred horses are straight up overpriced for no attack density they get underwater.
>>
>>147888514
Monkeys, Pale Ones, are both worse off the top of my head.
Machakan troops are pretty shit too, especially after the nerf.
>>
>>147888514
>Sacred and non sacred horses are straight up overpriced for no attack density they get underwater.
Yeah, they're not killy, but they have high defense. Non-sacred kaniggits worked -okay- when I was doing expansion testing. Still expensive for what they offer, but better than the sacreds given how few sacreds I could build.
>>
>>147888690
Underwater troops. Compared to underwater indies and the rest.

Also, monkeys and the rest have troops that are good enough/better than indies within their own area.

Ys entire underwater roster is a pile of dogshit. I'm pretty sure they would lose to any other UW nation in UW.

>>
>>147896015
Any giant with 50+ hp and a couple of magic paths can be turned into SC.
Milage varries though. W/D is far from the best SC combo but it's pretty decent depending on what you are fighting.

Using son of nifel is sort of dumb though, given that Nifelheim gets plentiful recruitable scs and heavy scs.
>>
>>147896405
>W/D is far from the best SC combo
It's actually not bad. D is great on SCs because of soul vortex alone, and W has a fair few useful buffs, like Liquid Body.
>>

Considering that even a peasant makes a good thug with enough goodies laden upon him it isn't even a question with giants. Just think carefully about what he is gonna wear and cast.

I usually find players don't deploy most of their mages scripted with MRN spam unless they're expecting a SC. Most MRN spells are not very good against normal troops.

Stacking MR will protect your SC from small groups of mages over a long battle, and can even protect you from large groups of mages if you have a way to kill things fast like firestorm.
>>
>>147898410
You shouldn't be using a SC when the enemy is scripted againts a SC. Scripting any defensive force with some single target <s>killers</s> destroyers is a given after a certain point to prevent turn one bullying.

If the enemy prepares against a SC use conventional troops and mages
If the enemy prepares against conventional troops and mages use a SC
If the enemy prepares against both of them raise a hell and claim their nation is OP

Not any of the major D/B that is for sure. Unless exceptionally well done they are just punch clock villains or 'ow the edge' antagonists.
Something with minor B slowly creeping up the ladder, growing up in power until it is too late is more up my taste. It matches perfectly with the prevalence of B in lategame.

Just think about a month and a half of intense friendly roleplay with someone and then noticing that all the strange hints and dischords are slowly coming together. But even that is overdone.

The most terrifying RP I've personally ever had was a bunch of overpowered demons pretending to be humans and failing horribly.
>>
>>147905951
Astral nations usually deploy S1 as their primary combat mage. S2 or higher is much less common, so most astral mages won't be able to cast soul slay unless communioned up for it.

Disintegrate doesn't have great range. If you're not scripting for Disintegrate you probably put your death mages at the back, where they'll be out of range to cast it.

Also, a large portion of spells come out early in the fight while fatigue is low. Once a mage hits 100 fatigue he only casts soul slay once per 5 turns (disintegrate is slightly better, once per 3 turns).

Considering that even just 26MR (reachable with a single item slot and one buff) needs to face hundreds of MR checks before you can be confident it'll die, it's quite possible to throw SCs at armies if all you need to worry about is off-script casting.

I'm a n00b, how can I counter niefelgiants as hinnom? Just rely on my superior troops? I don't think hinnom has any access to any frost resist spells. Spam fire spells? No earth cross path means no magma bolts. Use a communion to get higher in wind and get ethereal army?
>>
>>147911956
There are frost resist spells using Fire paths under Alteration. You can also just, well, kill them with the same stuff you use to kill other people. Fire evos ain't it, though.
>>
>>147911956
nifelhim sacred giants should suffer a lot from fireballs and stuff like that.

all niefelhim not undead troops will suffer heavily from stellar cascade ( evocation 5) and MR negate kill spells like soul slay.

if he has undead troops holy 3 banish, giant holy communions or just fire and earth evocations should work decently against them.
>>
>>147912174
>nifelhim sacred giants should suffer a lot from fireballs and stuff like that.
If by 'stuff like that' you mean 'fire elementals' then yeah. Fire elementals are pretty good.

>if he has undead troops holy 3 banish, giant holy communions or just fire and earth evocations should work decently against them.
If Niefel fields undead at all, it's probably going to be a gygja master/skratti slave communion that infinitely spams out skeletons. Hinnom isn't particularly good at holy communions because the mages that they'd be putting in them are very expensive
>>
>>147902286
I joined that weeks ago, I thought it was going to be removed for inactivity.
>>
>>147911956
Unless you attack niefelheim you shouldn't need to worry about it, hinnom has heat scales and heat scales are very bad for niefel giants.

If you can recruit indy archers (or even slingers), Flaming Arrows will murder Niefel Giants.
>>
>>147912683
Avvite Spearmen with flaming javs will also do a number on them, and they make damn good line holders too.

The greatbow dudes are a huge luxury since you can get 3 human sized archers for the same price, which is why this dude's rec for indy archers is generally better.
>>
>>147912815
>Avvite Spearmen with flaming javs will also do a number on them, and they make damn good line holders too.
I don't really think so - 2 attacks for 30 gold vs 12 attacks for 10 on indie archers. Both will have roughly the same damage since most of it comes from the 13AP fire effect.

If you need lineholders anyway you may as well recruit the ones with a ranged attack, but I wouldn't recruit them specifically for flaming arrows.
>>
>>147913004
Yeah, I wasn't arguing with them over indy archers. I was saying that you should be using them for your lineholders, and flaming arrows will also do a bunch of damage with their javs before engaging.

Can scales ashdod be successful In a regular multiplayer game?
>>
>>147914268
Getting a big bless is the standard way to play most giant nations, but I prefer scales Ashdod over bless Ashdod actually. Well, I'd still take a small bless, but you don't need a huge bless in order to be viable and good scales help a lot since much of your stuff is expensive.
>>
>>147914268

You literally cant play heavy bless Ashdod.

Your cap only sacreds are good but you will NEVER get more than 5 per turn and thats a stretch. In normal conditions with 4 prov cap ring you will have 3-4 per turn.

Your summoned sacreds are blood and rely on a specific terrain. So cant be counted on either.

As such you dont really have anything to bless.

You killed ME Nazca. My prophet was leading an army to go help the giants kill Ermor when you starting swarming my provinces with your stacks of flying little map-move-3 shits. Now instead of giants backed up by fire and bless-spamming paladin-stacks Ermor has to overpower a giant flock of birds armed with maces. Your speed and numbers won't work against Ermor so unless you get smart with all that gold you're accumulating the whole world is going to be lost to a never-ending tide of calcium.

You're the heir to just about the entire western continent now, so don't fuck it up.

Meanwhile, Lanka is spawning tons of undead, which are just ass good for upkeep-less patrollers* and while a flack of chaffy sacreds is cool, it's not cool enough to outweigh all the nice elite sacred tricks that Lanka gets. That kind of comparatively minor nerf would easily be enough to turn Xibalba from the clearly best option to just one of the best.

It's a wargame rather than a grand strategy game.
>>
>>147978861
Like >>147979176 said it's more of a wargame than a grand strategy game. The empire management part of the game is extremely superficial and bare-bones, and the real meat of the game is in how you use your armies and mages. It's theoretically possible to play without fighting, but in practice you will always spend most of your playtime either being at war or preparing for war. Diplomacy is also a massive part of multiplayer, but the game itself has no diplomacy options at all apart from an extremely inconvenient messaging system, so it's all shady backroom deals and backstabbing galore.
>>
>>147978861
There's no grand strategical component (or rather, the game doesn't support it, but there's emergent diplomacy in multiplayer, and I think lack of formal mechanics actually makes it more involved than it otherwise would have been). Since its mechanics and presentation bear resemblance to board wargames, the most useful way to categorize it is fantasy wargame.

>>147991760
Summod has some issues imo (like not nerfing EA/LA Xibalba enough imo), but is overall an improvement. It does turn Hidden in Foo w/gem gen+correct site a win condition, but I suppose that's fair given the circumstances.

Also, Yomi/EA C'tis are even trashier than normal in summod, since the other shit tier nations got pretty solid buffs, while the main issues of those nations were ignored.
>>
>>147992573
Despite the histrionics on how bad they are, Yomi currently has a top 10 winrate.
>>
>>147992818
Which is odd, since in my experience Yomi has about the same power curve as EA Machaka, with a hilariously bad early troop load out early, decent mid-game options, and no real late game options to speak of.

That they somehow manage to do better is imo because plenty of players don't know how to deal with Dai Oni.
>>
>>147993727
That's pretty much it, desu. Dai Oni are a lot easier to use to push an advantage than expensive hyena mages
>>
>>147992818
Alternatively, that shows that winrates are a terrible way to try figure out balance. If a terrible nation like Yomi can get in the top 10, why are we even paying any attention to those stats?
>>
>>147993727
>>147994276
Also, Yomi's troops are honestly fine. The fact that they practically don't cost resources means that you can expand reasonably well with them and also lets you mass dudes on a fort when you need to switch fronts in a fight. They don't carry the nation, the way that Atlantis or Pangaea's do, but they do their jobs.

>>147994320
They aren't the sole determining factor, but they are objective data related to nation strength.
>>
>>147992573
>EA C'tis
I think that EA C'tis should get some sacred national death summons. Preferably one that synergizes well with N9, since C'tis likes N9 already. This would serve a dual purpose of giving C'tis a mid game, and making up for their literally useless recruitable sacreds.

It seems weird that EA C'tis, a death major with nature minor and water random nation, has a mediocre (read: not worth summoning) nature sacred, a nature/water crosspath summon that's also not worth using, but no death sacred to speak of.
>>147994393
Not him, the only thing the stats show, that I can look at and trust, is that Lanka and Xibalba are tip top. I don't need stats to see that.
>>
>>147994393
>Yomi's troops are fine

They roll over and die the moment they encounter real fucking units. They're like zotz, but without the flight, the stealth, and they cost almost 3x as much. And they're undisciplined to boot.
>>
>>147994393
>they are objective data related to nation strength
That doesn't mean they're right - there's a thousand ways to fuck up statistics and get a completely incorrect answer.

The spreadsheet even had to be adjusted to use a 'power ranking' rather than straight winrates because lambert was giving therodos a ridiculously high winrate (which it still has, second highest in EA).

>>147994642
>the only thing the stats show, that I can look at and trust, is that Lanka and Xibalba are tip top
Are you sure that's not just because you agree with it already?
>>
>>147995181
The power ranking predates therodos's existence.
>>
>>147995297
Huh, what caused it to get introduced then?

I remember the spreadsheet used to just use winrates but changed at some point. Figured it was therodos' fault since I noticed it around about then.

I just looked up EA Berytos and they sound pretty cool. Does anybody want to tell me their secret weakness that makes them absolutely shit and no fun to play?
>>
>>147996412
Their main research mage is nothing to write home about.

If there isn't much sea they get fucked over to the nth degree

Other than those two, Burritoes is pretty good.
>>
>>147996412

Indy troop roster, need coasts, shitty recruitable sacreds, awesome sacreds need a wasteland to be produced. No nature/death until deep in blood. Is pretty weak to rushes.
>>
>>147996624

Berytos has super cheap lancer cavalry though, and their elite soldiers are pretty good.

Collosi can also take a bless if you care to use them, and it's a good option because of Melqs and Se'ir.

Bery is a pretty good demon / mage nation. The deal with coastal income and sailing is more like a minor addition than a core of the nation
>>
>>147997057
>>147997010

I honestly really love Berytos, but you have to admit their main strength likes in their magic. You have blood, air, earth, fire for se'ir, storm demons (and non cap storm casters), devils, Melqarts, and demon knights.

You have elephants and whatnot for expansion, and you have archers for flaming arrows/wind guide for mid game. If at any point you feel the need to recruit a lancer instead of a demon knight/mage, you should take a long, hard look at your odds of not getting roflstomped.

Their lack of nature/death does hurt in that you don't have pack of wolves/skeletons to make for cheap patrollers.
>>
>>147997641
Nature is honestly really easy to break into in EA.

It's the death access that you really miss. When I played Bery, I got the D hero early, which was awesome since I could use D summons for their undead/demon leadership to lead my Se'ir. Without them, the se'irrim are a pain to move.
>>
>>147997790
You can use Horde from Hell on one of your own provinces, getting a flying leader and good patrollers
>>
>>147997982
I -guess- you could do that, but I'd rather not when I don't have to. There are so many great things to spend blood slaves on, and HfH is also a great remote attack that also then lets you use the devil as a leader.
>>
>>147998154
I'm the anon who first asked about Berytos, if I've never played a blood nation before should I not try them? I think it's probably too much for me to manage. Also I've now announced to the thread that I'm fairly new so I'd probably better pick somebody else anyway but I've wanted to ask for a while, is Blood that complicated? Or is it just a tree that requires active farming of resources rather than gem sites?
>>
>>147997982

Please don't. Your demon leadership is already pretty limited to your blood mages. Wasting a perfectly respectable flying storm demon/seir leader on patrolling is nonsense. Just dig out a random shaman/lizard tribe and poop out wolves.
>>
>>147998527

Yes blood is complicated. It will require you to read a couple of blood guides, learn the mechanics of blood sacrifice, and figure out how to squeeze every drop of virgin blood you can from your empire.

But there's no point in tiptoe-ing around it, and there's no better chance to learn than in a noob game.
>>
>>147998537
I was suggesting the Devil for demon leadership, the imps are just something extra if you can find a commander to lead them
>>
>>147998527
It just requires a bit of micro. It's honestly easier to use blood on Bery than a lot of other nations given that they don't have other mechanics to work with as well. The only trick with Bery is that as opposed to, say, Mictlan, they have other research priorities (eg - Flaming Arrows for a midgame war or Evo if you get a bunch of coastal forts and want to roll out the T strikes)
>>
>>147998668
>>147998754
Is Der_Gotterdammerung a noob-game? If not I might go with a safer choice and pick Berytos another time. But then again half the nations are already gone so who else can I pick? Yomi?
>>
>>147998846

any game is a noob game if you join as a noob. Practice expansion in SP (elephantselephantselephants), and feel free to ask for tips in thread/in the game. I've never had an experience where other players were truly malicious about helping out newer ones.

or pick a different nation, no point in Burritos if you hate the filling and just want a bowl of piping hot yomi-so soup.
>>
>>147999473
I've actually tried expansion with Yomi in SP before and I don't think I like them too much. They're too much of an anarchic clusterfuck to stand up to a real army without some really good magic working behind the scenes that I wouldn't be able to run efficiently enough.

I might try some Burritos SP and see how I like the expansion. What's their typical pretender? They seem to have magic paths covered pretty well so I don't really know what needs doing. Do good scales suit them?
>>
>>147998846
Agartha seems like they'd have a good position on that map, considering they won last time.
>>
>>147997631
You only get Stormcallers in coastal provinces.
>>
>>147999720
Where would Agartha be? Berytos are obviously influenced by Carthage but where do cave-dwelling cyclops-men fit into history?
>>
>>148000009
They get places is what sort of seems like a mountain between China and the Caspian sea, with Caelum, Sauro, and TC as their immediate neighbors (and I guess R'yleh in the water).
>>
>>147999675
E4N9 Statue of Fertility, Dom7 O3P1H1G3M1M0

You have a couple of scales to play with. The only essentials are O3 and G3. You could roll P0H2M2M3, for example, or P0H1L0M0.
>>
>>148000246
>E4N9
What's the purpose for this? Is it mostly the bless or are lategame nature globals really good for Berytos?
>>
RIP Llama, you were too good for this world.
>>
>>148000346
Same as every other damn nation that takes the cookie cutter E4N9 bless. Berytos has good sacred thug/SC summons, good unit summons, and fairly okay cap sacreds to expand with.

If somebody suggests E4N9 on a pretender build, you can be reasonably certain it's primarily for the bless. A lot of nations really like it. Sometimes it's a happy accident that it gives them nature globals as well, but that's almost never the primary reason.
>>
>>147999675

Need: Growth, Order
Want: Magic, high-ish dominion for Blood-Saccing Melqs
Can dump: Heat, Sloth

Bless: N9E4 for melq thugs, passable on your recruitable sacreds/seir
W9 for Seirs
Ex for mages
Bx works well on Seirs, gives you an easier time getting to high blood
There's probably an argument for D9/F9, but it's even stupider now that Seir are size 3.

They expand well with elephants, but an awake snake gives you good scales, a decent mage bless, more provinces.

>>148000346
Melq thugs are pretty okay raiders, and i guess sabbath shenanigans.
>>
I've run a B9 mono on bery, and that worked pretty well. It was on a map that had a fair number of wastes spaced at intervals that I could feel confident about getting at least one, so I knew I was taking a Se'ir bless. That said, I often felt like I'd have preferred either W9 or N9 since I also had the opportunity to field a crapload of evo and took some blood vengeance damage on my own mages as a result.
>>
>>148001139
>>148000720
Biggest issue with Melqarts is that 1/3 of them don't get buffs worth a damn. Air has mistform, mirror image and flight. Earth has ironskin/resist lightning and summon earthpower. Fire has... Fire shield.
>>
>>148001473
Phoenix Pyre :3

Also E's best buff is temper flesh and air's biggest advantage is magic phase movement imo. I honestly wouldn't even bother scripting mirror image or flight.

Right, I forgot about Temper Flesh.
>>
>>148001473

Keep in mind, they are the best blood saccers in the game, and can lead/bless demons.
>>
>>148001843
Yeah but that's generally not why you summon them. There are other things that can lead demons that don't cost 100 slaves, and blood sacrifice isn't THAT important as Berytos.

I was thinking that could work okay. Have you ever met a Pacific Islander? As a rule they all seem to be fucking huge. Some people have drawn connections between their social organization and old tibetan societies, so that's where it's generally put.

>receive cool hero unit early on
>arena starts
>get excited, spend 30 minutes analyzing enemy nations, possible troops they can send and what commands and items I should give to cover most of my weaknesses without getting too specific against a particular nation
>fucking nail it
>wait a whole day, grinning occasionally, theorizing about how the battles will go
>finally receive turn
>only nation to participate, win by default

Seriously guys?

They eat rocks. They basically just chow down on mineral shit all day.

That said, I want a swole Agarthan hero now.
>>

I was wrong, I just saw the thread and, not caring to investigate further, made an assumption.

It's not as pretty when you're less zoomed out.
>>

Still not that bad. Started practicing a little, and it's quite enjoyable. I'm looking forward to the start of the game.

The general problem is that you don't care if a an affordable commander wins (great, D2 skelly spammer got Champion's Trident, now what?) while actually strong commanders that would benefit from rewards tend to be too expensive to lose and even winning might fuck you over with cursed artifact filling slots you might need for some other item.
>>
>>148025426
What about the fun of challenging yourself against other players at miles away from you with a simple, isolated duel?

I'd participate even if it gave no reward DESU.
>>
>>148025553
This reminds me of NatGen Ishria.
Poor guy. At least he had fun.
>>
>>148025731
What'd he do?

Sent in his pretender and it got killed.

I actually meant to send a D1 Mage in case no one sent anything but i accidentally had him researching. Sorry.

No.

Sadly, my demon cleansing didn't go off even though the game said it would. I figured it seemed a bit fishy the game was telling me a W3 could cast it, but I didn't really want to waste a Robe of the Sea when I could only bring over 2 E2 mages anyway. Still cleared out a bit of crap.
>>
Hey Sum1 the pythium portion of summod doesn't work, the sites for improved recruitment and rituals in forts don't work, sol inviticus never seems to trigger (the description says it only affects magic being demons), and mages don't downgrade after their prophet dies.
>>
>>148036485
By don't work I mean the sites don't spawn.

I had desperate need of the robe of the sea for other purposes that were simply more valuable than clearing out the fiends of darkness.

2 RoS casts, even with Demon Cleansing, wouldn't have removed the demon knights. I have no fucking idea how one of them managed the impressive task of dying.

Does Relief affect enemies units? The description says it affects friendlies but the manual says it affects all units. Also how much fatigue does relief actually remove?

Then when we pointed out how stupid and risky sending a Crow of the underworld pretender to the arena was, he said we were tryharders who weren't having fun at all, but he was having a lot of fun.
