Imagine if DS2 never existed and money/time used to create it were split evenly between bloodborne and DS3.

Lord Of Cinder mode is probably the best incarnation of the "death punishment" mechanic so far. Soul/Body form is basically the same, just with a much higher health debuff. There's very little reason to ever stay human in DaS (except, bizarrely, so that ultras have a nice screenshake effect when they hit, which doesn't happen when you're hollowed). DaS2's is just silly.

My game often stutters in multiplayer whenever the other guy does anything involving their weapons, mostly switching or two handing, but attacking as well.
Obviously this is fucking me over real bad, is there anything I can do to fix this?

Soul of Cinder was the only Souls game end boss that I didn't die to even once on my first playthrough. I'm ashamed that I died once to Nashandra, but that was when I was testing a suboptimal cosplay.

Soul of Cinder still felt challenging, but he was pretty easy to dodge reliably.

Actually, maybe that's where DeS did it better. Yeah, you could basically regain body form in the same ways as 3, but you had to do it strategically because of tendencies. Plus, eye stones are more difficult to come by than embers.

Plus Dark Souls 2 with the DLCs was good. People shit on Dark Souls 2, but Dark Souls 1 Lord Soul areas wete pretty fucking weak and the Dark Souls 2 DLCs count for Dark Souls 1 DLC +3 Lord Sould areas, so they have similar amount of good content.

But Dark Souls 2 has admittedly much more shitty filler as well.

Yeah, the areas were actually moved around a lot and a bunch were supposed to be in completely different locations. In Earthen Peak you take an Elevator up and end up in a volcanic valley. Originally I think that path was supposed to lead to the Undead Crypt and Shrine of Amana was supposed to lead to Shulva.

Every single time.

DaS2 is a bad game, with ok to good mechanics combined in the worst of ways.
Take the limited respawns per bonfire area, for example.
I honestly find that the way they dealt with the inevitable loss of item dropping enemies via either resetting the respawn counter but buffing enemies to the next ng+ level, or joining a covenant that blocks co-op capabilities and buffing enemies while removing the respawn cap, is fun and interesting.
Think about how different DaS1 would be if they added this system and only this system

Dark Souls 1 didn't have great movement either. Bloodborne and DaS3 were the best games in that regard.

I like some of the mechanics and even some of the art direction/setting in DaS2, but the gameplay is just downright aweful. It's not just "different". It's just plain bad. Even old N64 games generally had more responsive controls and smoother movement than DaS2.

I thought Dark Souls 2 Scholar was the best game. Dark Souls 1 is almost great, but it falls apart halfway through and becomes a chore of unfinished content. Dark Souls 3 was literally the safest game they made. Nothing about it is interesting or new. It's just prettier and filled with a billion added visuals to make it seem different. Bloodborne would be great if the other games didn't exist. Demon's was a great first introduction to this type of game, but it doesn't hold up and is too easy.

Scholar is the most complete game with the best lore. It's got a good variety of easy and hard bosses. Best characters and the best ending.

It's a great introduction to the series, and if you play it first, it's a great game. It's the happiest game of the series and has neat lore. I would have really liked to see DLC that explored the giants world.

It doesn't hold up compared to the others in terms of gameplay though. It's a lot slower so unless you play it first, everything is going to feel pretty slow, predictable and easy. You also will see how much the other games copied from Demon's. Just like if you're familiar with King's Field and Berserk, you will see how much is lifted from those for Demon's.

That would be my biggest gripe with the series. Everything is lifted so heavily from itself, the more you play and the more you know hinders the experience because it often feels like you're just playing a prettier re-skinned version of the game.

It also made it feel very trippy and strange when some paths lead to an area that couldn't exist. The fact that Dark Souls 1 is perfectly connected made it feel small to me. Demon's handled it well because you could warp to different areas of the land. It made the world feel larger because of all the things you didn't see.

I just started a Guts run in Dark Souls 1 as a Bandit, got a Zweihander from the cemetary and I'm fastrolling everywhere and 1-shotting everything without a shield . If I wanted to, I could buy a Heater shield from the Undead Burg merchant and have a solid 100% physical block shield that would last me to roughly half of the base game. I literally 2-shotted the first real boss without upgrading my Zwei once. And I could've even upgraded it without any sequence breaks.

In Dark Souls 2 I had to deal with dogshit equipment and I can't upgrade my shit until I get to the Cardinal tower which is a slog in the base game if you picked warrior because your starting weapon is shit and can easily break on the way over there. Without ADP you have no iframes and your rolling is shit and you don't get a 100% block shield until you defeat the Pursuer. There's no Drake sword or early game frutch weapons.

You silly billy. The other anon cleared it up anyway. I agree with you though, Dark Souls 1 felt really easy compared to DS2 Scholar. The limited respawns for enemies and the limited shards you could buy from merchants made it hard to upgrade equipment. I felt like I got too many good things too early in Dark Souls. I don't recall ever getting stuck on any bosses more than a single death. In Scholar I've definitely found myself stuck on areas and bosses for mutliple deaths.

Demon's always felt pretty easy in most areas and bosses. I played it first and it felt fine as long as you went at a slower pace or if you used magic. The only times I felt really caught off guard were Maneaters, Flamelurker and False King. Those fights were all amazing. But I feel like if you played any of the other Souls games first, then went to Demon's, those fights would just feel okay.

If you roll with GCFB, Vestiges, and either Fire Whip or Fire Surge you can handle 99% of anything in the game including invaders.

I cannot conceive a situation where you would land the last hit of molten perseverance, save for your opponent having a heart attack mid-game, or maybe surprising someone around a corner. If you're talking about hosting an FC, you need to be in a place where you haven't killed the boss. Once you kill the boss, you can't be invaded, and as a result you can only summon one red phantom from red signs. If you haven't killed the boss, and use dried finger, you can summon like 5 reds

I don't really use the pyromancy, its a gimmick. The whip is the main damage source until I get the other person worked up enough to r1 spam, then parry and finish the job. So yeah, self imposed limitations, but that's what I find fun in making a specific build.

Defense and attack-boosts all get penalized in pvp. Other players ignore most of the effect of the steel protection ring, and it only nets a ~4% increase in defense instead of the 15% advertised.
