Are there any mods that completely overhaul combat in Skyrim? By which I don't mean tweaking the damage, but completely changing the animations, the feel of the weapons, the kinds of weapons available, adding thrusting/cutting/blunt damage, etc.

I've searched and found no mods that actually change the 1st person animations, only mods that change 3rd person ones.

Spears by Soolie adds new spear/javelin weapons animations but it's a mission to install and get it to work properly.

It's my go-to game for when I want to relax or do some adventuring. It gets even better when you know how to use the creation kit. Warband is great, but it doesn't have certain things skyrim has, and by skyrim I mean skyrim modded.

As for the weapons available, there's the Heavy Armory, which add daggers to material types that didn't have them, shortswords, hatchets, mauls, shortspears and spears (which are just long swords), halberds, and quarterstaves. I can't recommend that because it comes down to personal preference. Some people like a good amount of SSS while other people can't stand it. A typical result of accentuated SSS values is that NPCs with tints that vary typical human shades, like dunmer and orcs, end up more brown and less of what they should be. But at the same time it does wonderful things to other actors.

Just play with it until you get what you like I guess.

If you use run a below average graphics card just check the website for enb recommendations and review the enb guide for values to swap around to suit your needs. It doesn't auto-save or anything so you have all the time you need to experiment. I edited snapdragons sharpening and lighting for exteriors because of my characters. I won't say there isn't a learning curve but it can be fun.
