I'd restart that without shame, you can't win it without knowing beforehand and anyone playing LW knows and expects that mission. Another one to expect is that the 3rd terror mission will be 100% lids and zombies.

long schlong newfoundland strategy:
>a minimum of two engineers with grenades and AP grenades
>everyone else carries one AP grenade; if bringing a rookie, they can bring two AP grenades; don't be hesitant to use them on the thin mints too since you get no corpses anyway
>assaults, infantry, scouts are most useful, but you can also bring some rookies to train
>2-3 shotguns but not more, you need an answer to the thin mints and you have enough AP nades to kill all the lids anyway
>don't go through the middle because you can have 12 lids walk in on you, take the back route
>>
How the fuck do I make that stupid fuck of a game not to mess with my character pool and assign them different classes or change their outfits?
>>
>>147423809
I've never had the game mess with the clothing options for a character. Bear in mind that each tier of armor has its own customization settings, however. If you only customized them in T3, you won't see that customization until you get them back to T3.

For the class thing, however, go into the character pool. You can set their class there - it defaults to random, I believe.
>>
>>147422672
>100% lids and zombies.
Actually kind of easy, especially the zombies.
Just get a bunch of Assaults with Close Combat Specialist
>>
>>147424146
It just did with me. Had some of my troops appearing the first mission, wearing some of that anarchy faggotry props which I never use.

The characters appearing in the pool have their prefered class already BUT if they appear in the first mission, they will be assigned a class at random by the end of it, which will most likely not be their prefered one, and this is what I'm trying to avoid.
>>
>>147424402
Newfoundland is easy too, I train rookies on it, point is that you have to be prepared for it.

CCS is autowin and one of the best perks in the game, which is why it has never sat right with me that the "orthodox" assault tanking build takes steadfast.

>>147433595
I would definitely recommend EU/EW if possible, but if you can only have one, get X2.
>>
>>147433595

EU/EW if you want a deeper and more challenging experience
X2 if you want polish, more customization and a tighter experience

XCOM 2 is the better game but it doesn't have a major overhaul mod yet.
>>
>>147433595
They're both great games honestly, I'd recommend giving both a Vanilla playthrough. The big difference is what comes afterwards.

With EU + EW, you future would revolve around Long War(a large majority of mods for that game deal with Long War). Once you get your customization in via mods and your own ini edits, Long War is something you can put hundreds of hours into easily if you end up liking it. It was intimidating for me at first, but ended up being my most favorite XCOM experience to date

XCOM 2 has a lot more diverse mod community, and you have a lot more to choose from. Class mods, gameplay mods, fine tuning mods, map mods, just about everything. You can more or less make your own Long War in XCOM 2, and with the improvements 2 has over 1, you'll likely enjoy it longer.

Anyone know how hard it would be to add in extra chassis options for Sparks?

I'm thinking tiered chassis options that would roughly ape the Mec classes from Long War.

Mk-1 Spark is as it is in the game.

Light Chassis options add more mobility and dodge, but less armor and health - adds a slot to be used for Nades, Vests or Ammo.

Regular Chassis options are as they are in the game, but with 2 Slots for Items.

Heavy Chassis lowers mobility but adds the most Armor/Health and has three slots for Items.

It would be the start of a decent Mec mod - giving more specialization options. Next up would be adding Class Options for SPARKS to treat them like old school Mecs.

Maybe getting the Advent Mec Micro Launcher to play ball on the Spark Chassis.

I have ideas, but no technical knowledge on how to plan them out.

I assume adding customization options for the Mecs is no different than adding them for normal soldiers, which means it's not difficult at all.

That's just implementing them though, modeling, texturing and rigging is obviously more complicated.

is "alien hunters" really as bad as people say?
>>
>>147436919
No

You're given the tools to deal with them way early on in the game. As long as you have them in tow, especially the grenade, the encounters are simple. The issue arises if you manage to activate a ruler while unprepared(engaging another pod or something). Then things go to shit uncontrollably(on the level of triggering a level 9 sectopod in a long dong terror mission while fighting other stuff).
>>
>>147437323
The triggering of the pod itself can be avoided by simply packing some battlescanners, they're a lifesaver
>>
>>147436919

Pretty much what >>147437323 said, on their own rulers can be easily dealt with with massed fire and the Alien Ruler weapons.

But if you activate when you are already engaged against an enemy fire team, boy it can get out of control fast.
>>
A bit would make a neet upgrade for sectopods, would also evoke the classic sectopod with its drone escorts
>>
>>147438387
Someone should make BITs an enemy on it's own right for true drone emulation

Can I build sparks if I start a campaign with the Shen mission disabled?

Also, did the mission after plasma and sparks feel really weak late in this campaign : can't equip items, can't receive weapon upgrades or implants. I think they were provided to the player as a tool to prolong the firefights, but this is and will always be the worst way to play xcom2, at least until lw2 comes around. Game makes alpha striking fun - it just needs more pods / more enemies per pod / all pods rushing towards you when you begin combat. Make me chain the alpha strikes or combine them with CC. Don't expect me to just stand there and take shots from the enemy, especially not when 20% to hit is also 20% crit.

It's intentional as some of the halo armors (or other mod armors) use theseparate arm/leg/shoulder sections for their legs or arms. So you need an invisible base.

>>147434893

I imagine it's possible. Would like to see it too since like much of long dong the MEC variety was one of my favorite things.

If I knew anything about modding on Xcom's engine I'm really curious if there are the leftover code, animations and so on that would let you port over stuff from Xcom1 wholesale. Like sectoids or SHIV.

>>147459890
I actually get entire months of ethereals more often on vanilla. That was the first time I ever got one in FMP, the sheer number of species in it makes it really rare.
And the early base defence isn't actually any earlier than you'd usually get one, it's just there's a chance you get gazers who are mutons who trade shooting ability for tank and with the slower tech progress chances are you've only got alloy ammo rather than gauss or lasers.

Honestly, early gazers aside, FMP is actually slightly easier than vanilla, the difficulty is higher but your options are so much more varied and your tech progress goes smoother rather than massive jerks when you hit lasers and heavy plasma that you can handle everything provided you use your head. Sniper rifles combined with dog scouting in particular is a ridiculously potent combination matched only by blaster bombs and psionics, except you can do it from day 1.
>>
>>147464551

Personally, I've found that the Fury/Anarchist/Headhunter/Bruiser are a great OG replacement. They're interesting and highly different, but hit many of the same boxes. Give them a try.

If you want something more traditional, give the Sniper, Infantry, Rogue, and Engineer a whirl. There's no good replacement for the Specialist's GREMLIN (though I never cared, because it is crap).

>>
>>147470226
Technician basically axes the healer portion of Specialist and focuses on doing things with the gremlin. It's main paths focus on party buffs or enemy debuffs. They can also use shotguns for some reason

Feels kind of OP so far, though. Being able to freely stun enemies from a distance for example is basically a better version of Stasis
>>
>Stabilize
>>
>>147472979
yeah but statis is just one reason why psi oops are silly

balance it out by adding A Better Advent, ABA: All The Enemies (and every enemy type endorsed and used in it), and ABA: Better Pods Plus.

Then it won't feel so OP
>>

I want to experience Long War in XCOM 2, but there's no modification like it. Even worse, I believe there probably won't be one at all due to how widespread the modding community is, how everyone uses different things, and the massive amount of conflicts that will result in the creation of such a mod.

As such, the next best option is combining the individual mods available on the workshop to create an experience similar to Long War.

What combination of mods would lead to such an experience?
>>
>>147477383
THAT'S XCOM, BABY!

its part of how i tried to simulate long war with xcom 2
>>
Think it's possible to port the Mechtoid model as parts for the SPARK or at least the torso and legs?
>>
>>147477419
Use a variety of the QoL fixes combined with A Better Advent (with All The Enemies and Better Pods, obv). The class selection is the big issue, one I'm unsure about how to solve. I know what I like in classes, but I'm not yet sure what classes make the best LW-type experience.

Also, some change to the Avatar Project and timers would seem in order for the tactical experience of LW (where long, cautious, dangerous missions are the rule, not the exception). Personally, I'd make timers really short, but only post-concealment, to make the conceal game more difficult yet rewarding. As for Avatar, I'd probably seriously extend it but not remove it, to provide a longer campaign (again, ala LW).

It's not going to be LW. But it can be made into something great on its own.
>>
>>147477419t
the modding community is widespread yes, but how is that different from installing LW and then making ini changes to suit your preferences?
fuck the air game

right now i am playing with around 60 to 70 different mods between tweaks, fixes, gameplay additions and rebalances and has been very rare to me seeing 2 mods conflict with each other and even when they do if they are popular enough it would probably get fixed

i think that the problem is that right now there is no standard on how a "balanced LW like experience should be" but just give it time, grimmy already has a collection of mods meant to work together, i am sure in the future we will see more collections like that
>>
so any word on future XCOM content?

Until someone gets around to make grenadiers into gunners and lose their grenade launcher Rocketeers feel like a lot worse option than a grenadier. The higher spread is not worth 1 more damage. Do rocketeers get better in the higher tiers? Half the reason I had them in Long dong was the abundance of mechanized enemies needing that HEAT.

Now you got blue screens and specialists for that.

First, the Gunner from that same mod is just a grenadier sans grenades. It's also a good class, if you like bullets, which you should.

Second, the Rocketeer is fucking terrible. They have spread on their rockets which *always* seems to screw you. They are just worse than every grenade-focused class I've come across so far (Grenadier, Engineer, Anarchist, mostly). They also aren't as necessary against robotic enemies either, as you note.

Oh I know about the gunner. I love it. With good accuracy the thing is a goddamn machine gun bunker on steroids. It's 10/10 my favorite class, I loved them in Long Dong and I love them here. Their sheer utility in suppression and overwatch makes them stand out against grenadiers and be as valuable as them. My gunner from the previous campaign that I quit to restart with Sparks out. By the end I think his kill rate was in the 140s or so, he could literally single handedly down an entire map's worth of pods. It was the whole WW2 German doctrine of "Everything focuses on the machine gunner - we'll give rifles to our ammo-bearers so they can feel like they are actually doing something of worth".

But yeah Rocketeer is just plain abysmal. Scout seemed disappointing when it came to stats alone and I feel like it's the same issue there - Long dong made the assault shotgun or bust CQC and until/unless you nerf rangers into that role a ranger can do a scout and assault all in one.

Only way I could imagine having the Rocketeer be more valuable is if grenades did little terrain damage and rockets did lots.

>Scout
Ok, so, it took me awhile to learn to like this class, but now I'm a super big fan honestly. You have to use them extremely specifically though: they're a far more stealth focused operative than the Ranger is. While you can build stealth Rangers, Scouts and Rogues are vastly better at it, since they're quick and can focus a lot more. If you play with a Scout/Rogue pair and you think of them as a highly mobile spotter and problemsolver unit, they'll pay you dividends. Give Scout a chance.

So you hate people bringing you free content, and then complain when they don't update it fast enough. The DLC released two days ago, as in over the weekend - a July 4th weekend at that.

Do you realize how you sound right now?

/xcg/ what do you think about a mod to make medics more useful? I'm thinking about a feature where if medics heal in a mission the soldier is also healed the same amount in the strategic layer. If I recall correctly, Long War used to have such a feature, but I could be mistaken.

Anyway what do you think? Does such a mod already exist?

I've never understood why fully healed soldiers on the battlefield still have to recover for a week in the barracks.

>If I recall correctly, Long War used to have such a feature, but I could be mistaken.
In LW having one medic with field surgeon in your squad means that wound timers will be as if the soldier took one less hp damage than they actually did. It doesn't actually promote healing people on a won mission just to reduce wounds, that doesn't do anything. Just a perk that automatically reduces recuperation time slightly.

Specialist has too many tools, it's like pre-nerf engineer in LW. When you're choosing between a dude with 3 medkits and 3 smokes and a dude with 3 smokes, 3 chems, 3 grenades, 3 battlescanners, everyone picks the latter.

>>
>>147524550
The strategy phase/game is all about using satellites to stop panicking countries from leaving. To launch satellites you need engineers. So basically focus on getting engineers for your mission rewards and spitting out satellite uplinks and satellites each month. Then, at the end of the month, launch them on a nation(s) that is panicking. Losing countries is a normal occurrence, you just can't lose to many.

>>147525785

>There's some things that are just not intuitive and will make you cry bullshit if you know the game mechanics yet.
That's true but the game is very forgiving and you can win with a huge amount of mistakes in normal (and even in classic if you remember to spam the sats).
>>
>>147526257
Overwatch traps and Break LOS are two different tactics. You're describing an overwatch trap.

Break LOS, in the optimal manner, refers to moving your entire squad somewhere the aliens cannot see even if they move up. This is great, because it means they can't shoot at you. Also, XCOM AI tends to break a bit when they can't see enemy units. If they see even one of your units, this does not really work. Aliens will often make subpar moves and sometimes flank themselves when they can' see XCOM.

Its a defensive move that can put you in a better position while fighting a pod, and since you get to decide when to resume contact you have the initiative.
>>
>>147528178
This can be done AFTER they spot you? So you just sprint away and they start becoming retarded?

>>147528313
Pretty much yeah. It still isn't easy to do because not every map has the high cover necessary, or its not within reach, etc.

You can also accomplish this with less high cover by not taking cover (not moving on the tile where your soldier would actually get the high cover), but instead standing right behind it. That's because then your soldier won't peak out one tile in either direction. Obviously you have to absolutely make sure ayys won't get an angle on you though.

Buildings with uninterrupted walls, fences, and buses are all good candidates for breaking LOS.
And I stress once again that if one alien can see one xcom, alien behavior will be unaffected. In fact they will move like they can see your entire squad (because they can).

Probably going to just get told to get good, but here we go.

I'm on my third normal attempt at EW and I've just landed the Base Defence mission. I feel that at this time in the playthrough the difficulty has increased exponentially I've really hit a brick wall.

The last mission before this I thought was hard (2 disks, 2 mechs, 3 mutons, beserker right at spawn), but this just seems frustrating.

The issue I'm having with the game is that the challenge for me seems to be trial and error research and spending, which takes a lot of fun out of the game for me. I feel like I'm essentially stabbing in the dark in terms of what is effective research. This normally would be ok, but I have to invest a lot of time into playthroughs in order to figure this out insead of just save-scumming an RNG roll.

Yeah, he doesn't seem like a great player (I've seen him take hits he really shouldn't, and I'm not even that good) but the vids are great quality and there's a plethora of them. I'm gonna give him a shot on watching a longer campaign and see if he stays enjoyable.

So the SPARK Bulwark perk provides cover to ADVENT if you move into point blank range against them, yes?

Does this apply if you move into point blank during a Kinetic Strike, or is the success/fail already determined before you get close?
>>
>>147532631
It's just like one for all from EW, several times have I had ayys take cover on my robot. As for the fist, you could always just choose a diagonal tile to attack from and not have to worry about giving them cover.
>>
>>147532631
It doesn't effect Strike afaik, that hit chance is calculated before you move up to them.
Also this bug doesn't always happen.

I've moved right next to an ADVENT before blasting him in the face without him getting cover bonus from me.

Gonna be honest here guys because my googlefu and steam searching has lead to jack shit.

>>
>>147535658
The pdfs will help you understand how to work with the SDK and everything, but I felt that it was a more general idea, and when I started doing my own mod, I was still lost as hell

What I recommend if you get confused about things that need to be done or similar stuff, look up some famous mods which deal with that sort of stuff, add one of the authors, and ask for a bit of assistance. In my experience, they're all kind folks who are willing to lend a hand(and even go beyond and give tips which will help greatly).
>>
>>147535529
At least it wasn't charges.
I think it'd be nice to give it an ability like the old KS upgrade to let you punch twice in a row.
>>
>>147536529
It would probably be a lot more used as well. Pop Overdrive, use one action to run over to an ayy, and punch him twice. Easy to set up and do

Whereas in EW, I don't recall using that ability pretty much ever outside of aliens using the MEC when he's one for all'd or berserker ping pong brings him over to the MEC

I have this problem where they aren't holding the shotgun right, i know how to fix it but what makes this "problem' interesting is that as it turns out, it would be really easy to make a gun with a foregrip thingy.

I used to think you'd have to make a slight change to the animations themselves but i guess that's not the case. All you need to do is add a socket to the mesh called "left_hand" and move it around until it's positioned correctly, which is all really easy. Basically once you have your mesh on the editor, you just open it there and click on socket manager and then it's all straightforward from there.

>>147535392

I'm not sure what kind of mod you want to make, but my best advice is to just get a similar mod from the workshop and just open it with the sdk and examine it. That said, i for one didn't understand anything about the coding side of things, but this tutorial helped me a lot:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Si0v_Fgsgdk

Although this is pretty specific to weapons when it gets to the other parts, but it might help.
>>
>>147536975
Ooh, baiting the aliens to use a MEC for cover. I never thought of that.

How evil.
>>
>>147537427
It was pretty fun to use

One of my favorite tactics was if I had a high level leader exposed, couldn't kill him, and he had access to good cover, I'd run the MEC up, one for all, and suppress him with a gunner. I fucking loved EW/Long War MECs, literally gods. Just port me a fucking Archer into XCOM 2 already so I could level entire city maps with no survivors

>>
>>147538676
Yea, somewhat

It pretty much means that everything that occurred in EU/EW can be completely disregarded, especially pretty much all of the comments from the Uber Ethereal. Every sentence was loaded, and now it all amounts to nothing

Yet the Bureau is fucking canon, and even has influence here as the ethereal from there is likely controlling the commander(see: cutscenes where a random ethereal pops in, and the quip from him in the last mission)
>>
>>147538837

What Jake said was that if you won Xcom1 then that's what happened, you killed the Ayys and that's that, if you lost, then Xcom2 is what happens.

I don't think he meant that there are actually alternate universes or timelines in "canon", because if they did, then in the Xcom2 world the events of Xcom1 wouldn't have been a computer simulation inside your brain, they would've actually made it an alternate universe/timeline and just explained it as psi magic.

Okay, I've read through the most of the SDK PDF's but not found anything remotely close to what I was looking for.

The base idea is to give SPARKs more Functionality and Versatility by giving them custom armor types rather than creating whole new classes Ala Long Dong.

For each tech level there would be FIVE armor types -

Scout Chassis -

No Extra HP/Armour
+50 to Dodge
+8 Mobility
Phantom and Conceal as abilities (ala Rouge custom class - 1 free use per mission)

Light Chassis -
+2 HP / +1 Armour
+20 Dodge
+5 Mobility
Lightning Relfexes
1 Item Slot for Vests/Ammo/Items

"Normal" Chassis (replacing the base game chassis)
+4 HP/ +2 Armour
No Dodge
No Mobility
2 Item Slots

Heavy Chassis
+6 HP / +3 Armour
No Dodge
-2 Mobility
+10 Aim
Run And Gun
3 Item Slots

"Juggernaut" Chassis
+8 HP / +5 Armour
No Dodge
- 4 Mobility
+20 Aim
Run and Gun
Light Em Up (Ala Infantry)
3 Item Slots
- And If I can, some way to make Overdrives cover destruction permanent without having to activate the ability.

I'd Also like to add -the following items -

- Core Plating +4 HP
- Hardened Alloys +3 Armour
- Extra CPU +1 AP per turn (perhaps the hardest to utilize)
- Conning Systems - Free Overwatch
- Targeting Computer + 10 Aim

I'd love to add in other shit like giving the Heavy and Juggernaut Chassis +1 to all heavy weapon uses.

BUT I DON'T KNOW HOW TO CREATE ITEMS IN THE SDK.

I just want to add some fun flexibility. Why am I so shit /xcg/?
>>
>>147538983
yeah.... okay well that ones coming off
>>
>>147539530
I know there's a specific one that affects SPARKS that makes them not repair. I thinks its like "Just a Scratch" or something, the one that makes it so you don't get wound time if the damage doesn't get past your armor health.
>>
>>147539480
It really is

It's the only thing explaining the fact that in the middle of the final mission, you are encouraged by a random ethereal, and no one comments on it(whereas before Bradford commented on all regular ethereal comments).

>>147539509
Start out small. Figure out how to modify existing items first(so you can change existing the existing chassis), and then move on from there.

Remember the advice about asking fellow mod authors. Grimy sounds like a good candidate, his loot mod is all around adding items

You know what I wish xcom had brought over from the afterblank series the most?

Alternate vision modes from afterlight. Those things looked really neat and nullifying the enemy alt vision was a nice touch when planning missions out.

Like martians saw electromagnetic waves but were pretty blind in the regular spectrum so robots were visible through walls a mile away but humans were pretty hard for them to spot.
Beastmen saw like normal humans but also had an extremely good sense of smell and could determine the rough position of your troops through terrain via it unless you used odor blocking stuff on your armor and not-sectoids could detect things psionically making them polar opposites to martians with robots being practically invisible to them while organics were lit up like christmas trees

>>

Yeah pretty much. Actually getting psionics in FMP is harder though since it's not just nabbing a psionic alien, you've got to go through a whole other line of alien electronics to be able to make the psi-amps. And that tech requires you to farm engineers and leaders to get lucky on alien engineering secrets.

Also its only marginally more powerful than scouting with a dog with a fire team of 4 flying snipers set up just outside the skyranger and then abusing the turn 20 alien behavior to mow them down as they leave the ufo

Can someone post that chart with the commands and etc.?

>>
>>147559363
Yep. The fact that the XCOM 2 SDK comes with stuff from XCOM EW as well is amazing to say the least.
>>
In XCOM2, If you start in a territory that has a continent connection, that continent connection is removed until you get all the way to the next territory.

Is there a mod or config option that disables this, because it is dumb as hell that if my HQ is in Mexico I have to take 6 other territories across two extra continents to get to South America.

There is one territory in Asia that is the best start, because it has no default continent connections to be disabled and you are 2-3 territories away from every other continent.

I know I shouldn't activate alien hunter shit until I am ready, but what about shens gift? That shit was hard, but I managed to do it in the first month. If it gives the enemy mec troops though, with that 3 armor it'd fug me though.

Also, should I by the time the first month is finished have 2 regions under my control through rebel transmission stuff? Super new to xcom 2.
>>
>>147559535
Just use a throwaway. It doesn't give more bra/ pants options, I was just including them, as they are the only other things we have.

They are currently working on tattoo sets to mimic skin tight clothes, and some armors that can be worn with the nude body set. I think some people are working on skimpy clothing too, I'm not sure.

Preferably behind a bus or building. It depends on the map. You won't always be able to do it. Its a good tactic, but you won't be able to always use it.

What are some CRITICAL do's and do NOT's of XCOM 2?

I think a major one is never dash on the last soldiers turn? What else? I am a newer player and I have all the DLC and wanted to get started. Pulling experience from other xcom games.

I am mostly just afraid of weird newb trap situations. Like apparently not rushing a AWC is suicide. Not rushing to the power conduit in your base is suicide etc. What else?

Not against sectopods, they take 80% from plasma and 150% from lasers.
>>
>>147569098
>Sectopods take 80% damage from high explosives and plasma, and 150% from laser. Combined with their strong armour, even the Heavy Plasma will have a very difficult time taking down a Sectopod - expect to expend many clips. Ideally the rear should be targeted, since it has a sizable 45 points (22 points on easy) less armour than the front. If you anticipate fighting Sectopods, dust off your old Heavy Lasers. Blaster and Stun bombs are even more effective if you have them.
>>

Tips when fighting 11 units on legend gatecrasher?
>>
>>147568804
>do
Prepare for every possible situation. You can't sleep when it comes to equipment, you need to be able to react to anything thrown at you. Early game, running six rookies who had two slots each, I liked doing: 3 smokes, 3 flashbangs, 3 HEs, 2 Scanners, 1 Medkit.
>>
>>147568804
Get advanced aerospace concepts after lasers and try to grab a few of the airgame foundry projects

If you ignore it for too long you'll find yourself getting fucked over in the air pretty quickly
>>
>>147571418
You can down them, but doing it in the first six months is likely to put your entire hangar in a very precarious state, and the crash mission is more risk than reward too. I'm assuming nobody is gonna follow my advise so religiously that they never try it, but it should be avoided for a long time.
>>
>>147571289
Why am I doing xenobio first? So I can trade sectoid corpses for scientists for faster research? Then I can beam rush faster?
>>
>>147571710
I find plates mandatory on every rookie, having everyone at 7hp means that you actually can let them shoot at you. The items become a lot less fancy, something like 2 medkits 2 frags 1 scanner 1 smoke, but when you're impossible to oneshot flashbangs and smoke are a lot less mandatory.

>>147572092
Yes.
>>
>>147571929
Wouldn't agree with you there on the mission, I found them fairly straight forward. The only nasty part(commander pod), can be fairly easily tracked down with motion trackers, and subsequently put down by a well placed door breach.

On the hanger part, yes, that's a good point. Early game before you have literally anything, likely it'll take 3+ aircraft to down it. If you didn't modify the max aircraft repair times(which you should cut by half unless you want to be boned 24/7), then you're basically out for that whole month.
>>
>>147572305
>you didn't modify the max aircraft repair times
I don't modify them because I actually like the pressure it puts on the airgame. Having to pick my fights and shuttle interceptors between continents is fun.

rookieweek.png
2MB, 1280x1024px
>>147572263
I never did use plates on my rookies. If I was in danger of being shot I'd always use items, which meant the 5 hp rookies weren't at a huge risk. That and when rookies do get shot(and survive), the problem isn't the wound, it's the freak the fuck out part that's the problem.

Pic related is an example. Was engaging the left pod when a sectiod got a lucky pistol shot. It was a scratch, but caused that panic chain, which was also the cue for that pod on the right to come in behind me and trigger.
>>
>>147572579
I can't tell people what's fun or not. Personally I never enjoyed it, because a poor roll of the RNG(which can't be influenced properly until you start hitting disks) was common, and would shut aircraft out for weeks. After which, it became national human probing week for that continent.
>>
>>147572837
That's weird, I very rarely get more than two people panicking at once, and your squad is full of 3hp pieces of human trash so surely their attribute points went into more willpower than average?
>>
I wanna keep bringing PFCS to make them into Specs then Specs into LCPLs with a few higher ranked members to baby sit on harder missions right?
>>
>>147571464
>It looks too small and pushes it into toy box mode.
Not entirely sure what you mean by toy box mode, but if you're referring to the length of the gun being small then that's normal for bullpup weapons. If you're referring to the width I might make it wider, but no promises.

As for the sound I'm curious as to why it would need more omph than it has now. Any more and it'll be somewhat too loud. Sure it's a gun so it's supposed to be loud, but for a videogame? Depends on the game I guess.
>>
>>147573248
No idea, maybe they had exceptional mob/aim, meaning their will was still sub-par. That picture is more than a year old so I don't really remember

>>147573347
Yea. First month should be pure 6 rookie missions(with 1 kill fed to every rookie to rank up). Only exception to that is if you decide to tackle a landed large(good luck), or if you don't feel like you can handle the council mission with all rookies. After that, yea, babysit
>>
>>147573347
Yeah, first month is basically 100% PFCs on every mission except council mission, then you do the same with SPECs in month two etc. Harder missions can be entirely your best dudes, it's silly to hold back on a terror mission or a landed UFO.

And when you start buying PFCs in later months you never want to bring more than 2 even on easy abductions or crashed smalls, they're quite useless and each one you bring exponentially increases your risk after the first month.

It being a Bullpup design + reflex sight and the length kinda puts it into carbine territory, a bigger rifle with a scope and wider muzzle would look more like a battle rifle.

For the sound, it doesn't need to be louder, just longer with more echoes.
>>
>>147578379
Eh, that sounds more like an Archon to me.
>Archon: entire room (walls, floors, and ceilings) made of mirrors. Is monitoring 10 different ADVENT-google search results for his name and will get upset for days if anyone ever mocks him online. Will get REALLY assblasted if you insult his favorite gravball team or other proxies.

>Avatar: keeps to him/herself (you're still not sure what sex they are) and you rarely see them leave their room. Sometimes oblivious to manners and quick to point out the flaws in others, but very possessive and will make total war upon anyone who threatens "their" household.

>Ampelle (stun lancer): has a power rack in her room, always snacking but somehow still totally fit. Her room is a mess, with clothes and armor strewn all over the place. Constantly teases other roommates but is pretty easygoing and won't push too far.

>Patsy (captain): super uptight about chores and maintains a chart of who is supposed to do what around the house (but no one pays attention to it). Spends her free time studying combat tactics and tries to engage others in planning sessions.
>>

Most ethereals have reached enlightenment and have gone to a different realm and the ones who did not are the ethereals we are fighting.
Why?
Because humans are the next species to be enlightened and move on to that place the other ethereals went and the unenlightened ones want to hitch a ride by taking over human bodies.

This is a fan theory IIRC but i like the idea of it.

But I've definitely built plenty of temp fission reactors in EW. And I'll usually try to tear up my base satellite facilities in late game to replace them with satellite relays (working from memory on the names), which sometimes requires temporary satellite stations, etc.

Steam vents are literally worthless in vanilla and somewhat optional in LW. You get the same power/$ from fissions, what you're mainly saving on is space. But you only need space lategame and you can get it from elerium reactors too..

Yes. The Rogue takes a shot at literally everything they can see, at whatever bonus they've got, then collapses for two turns (during this time the game treats them as dead). At the end of that time, they get back up and you can use them again. It's pretty self-explanatory (and pretty good).

PirateZ Sectopod.png

>>147595056
So I've been trying to think of the best way to dispose of sectopods, and this is what I've come up with:

Looks like the best way to kill sectopods are explosives or hitting the back armor. Explosive damage applies to the under-armor meaning it hits the weakest section of sectopods.

Here's weapons that actually have potential to kills a sectopod:
Mining Laser do 100 damage average, Heavy Gauss do 100, Fusion torches do 180, Rail Drives 135, Demonic essence does 200 (!!!) acid, Panzerfaust is 120 explosive, HE bricks are 110, Recoiless rifle 120, Baby Nukes 180. Tornado Mortar 120.

The Baby Nuke is definitely a good idea, but it could take one or two.

>>147595631
Yes, Lo Wang's Chinese Dragon. 600 Concussive damage, the blast radius is extremely unwieldy. Almost impossible to use safely without extremely good armor and flying capabilities.
>>
>>147595836
Thanks for the tips. I think I'll be using at least 3 HE bricks on this one. I'm a bit leery at the idea of shooting a baby nuke one floor upstairs in a spaceship (I mean, I'll try it, but I expect I'll need to reload.

>They kept the laser weakness
Hoo boy, I never noticed that. Are there any laser weapons even strong enough to go through that armor?
>>
>>147595982
The only one I know of is the Mining Laser, which is 100 damage (150 with their weakness). Its very slow though with limited range, so explosives are still the better option. Also you don't have to worry about what direction its facing.

You can get it relatively early, and they have high damage while being cutting instead of piercing damage. I don't use them anymore

Electro-Claw- My current prefered melee weapon.
70 base cutting, .7 strength bonus, .2 melee bonus, 90% accuracy, 14 time units per swing. 15% less damge to armor, but 10% your damage applies to the enemies armor. Melee also scales harder then strength. Also its only one handed.

The brick is an incendiary bomb (120 fire damge, huge radius).

The purple socket things are all acid damage ammo/grenades.

True concealment mod.

git gud or git mods
>>
>>147620874
See, in my experience thus far they just die a lot

Admittedly I play on Impossible with better pods plus so it may just be that they can't handle the heat. But then, regular soldiers can...I don't even play with psi ops
>>
>>147621321
I just disable timers and give ADVENT larger pods with more challenging enemies.

>>147621616
I'd like to use mods but then i feel like i alter the game and play as it was not supposed to be played?

Like, it becomes easier instead of being challenging.

Then your alternative is gitting gud.

Aid protocol helps them a lot, Since they have some defense on their own. Once their armor is gone they can get a little squishy. A Better Advent is hell on sparks too. Everything shreds
>>
>>147621812
it's your first play through right? Then you should just get good and play it vanilla.
>>
>>147621945
I played it at times but abadoned the playthough aftr a while.

Yeah, i think i will just try to finish it vanilla.
>>
>>147614879
Fuck you Magic 8 Ball, you're never useful.
>>
>>147621901
Yeah, but aid protocol helps everyone. It doesn't make SPARKs good to get help from another class.
>>
>no mods work anymore
haha fuck you Jake haha
>>
>>147623686
>mods work after rebooting the game

>>
>soldier nicknamed ghost by the game
>killed in a mission
>for some reason her body was still getting turns till the end
>post mission she showed up alive and not even fucking wounded

Are there any mods beside Enhanced Perk Tree that reveal all the perks?
I'd love that but I'd rather not have the other stuff the above mod offers.
>>
>>147589339
Everyone understands it wouldn't kill the soldier, but there is no way of understand what it *actually* does from the explanation. Does it take the soldier out till the end of the mission? Does it wound him? Does he come back? In how many turns?

Simply saying "but is he truly dead?" doesn't explain any of that, so no, the skill is not self-explanatory.

HOLD OUT JUST ONE MORE TURN, COMMANDER
EXTRACTION WILL BE UP

Did you miss where I agreed that it was not clear enough? In case you did, allow me to say it again:
>In truth, I do agree that it isn't well explained

I also believe that you could intuit at least some of it without someone else walking you through it. That's it. In any case, you now know what the ability does and can revel in its glory as well. Enjoy the ability, it's pretty slick.
