From my experience when dicking around with a +10 Corovan Scythe(A/A int/fth with chaos/dark), at around 36Int/32Fth the chaos infusion did a few points more than the dark infusion did.

Damage was equal at 40Int/40Fth with both Chaos and Dark infusions.

Again this was some personal dicking around with no recorded info, so take it how you will.

Just finished DaS but I missed a load of areas, should I try on NG+ or just start anew?
I missed painted world ash lake and a few others I think, and most of the dlc because I tried Artorias a few times and while I thought the fight was great I thought "wow, I bet gwyn is easier" and he was but I didn't realise beating him reset the game

I just upgraded from a 650ti(still have an i5), and I had horrid fps at 1080p and had to down grade to 720p. Game gave me a solid 30-45 FPS with the occasional dip into 1-5 fps land, until I got to some end game areas when my FPS when to shit and the game actually hard crashed PC every 30 minutes at archdragon peak.

On my 1070 I still get FPS drops in some cases, like when the elevator from Dragonslayer armor to Princes reaches the top.

Medium shields have a somewhat slow startup time, average active frames, and a slow recovery.

Small shields have earlier startup, better active frames, but near identical recovery.

Caestus has a very fast startup, but pretty shit active frames and after the nerf has the same recovery speed as a medium shield.

If you want a big smashy weapon in DS2 what I recommend is King's Ultra Greatsword (actually just a statue of Nashandra's human form with a hilt attached), Sacred Chime Hammer, Crypt Blacksword, or Fume Ultra Greatsword.

Pretty much everything else in the ultragreat categories is either shit or not smashy enough. KUGS and FUGS were basically the only things ultra that I liked consistently throughout my time in DS2. Using FUGS in DS2 really makes you sad for it in DS3.

Does frostbite have any use or viability in PvP? It might be interesting to build something around it. Does it scale with luck or any stat, and does the auxillary frostbite damage of the few frostbite increase as the weapon is upgraded? I don't think any weapon other than the rapier and the straightsword would be capable of proccing in pvp, though the SS held onhand with the rapier offhand leftstoc style might be an effective combo in terms of pressuring people into being frostbitten.

So is Ornstein's armor in Archdragon peak because he left it there (be it to go dragonform or just because he didn't need it) or is it a state of mind type thing?
The area visit is supposed to be an experience you have while meditating or something, right? So could his armor being left there being a sign of his stance on dragonkin changing?

As a related question, why does one of the Mendicants summon you after killing the wyvern? The fact that they summon Havel (or one of his soldiers) and Drakeblood Knights makes me think it's DRAGONMURDERERS ARE GO, but I'm not sure what's up with (not-)Ricard getting summoned nor all the Mendicants being hostile to you.

The relationship seems complex. On one hand, it does seem pretty clear that hunting and killing dragons is the thing to do when you're a friend of the Peak and NK, but on the other there's that clear desire to take on the form and characteristics of dragons, and even make allies of them.

All the way back in DS1, though, I used to theorize that Havel himself was a dragon lover. He did fight at Gwyn's side, but his secret chamber contains an anti-god club, and his armor seems to suggest wanting to become a dragon; he armored himself in stone, just like the dragons were armored in stone scales, and he fought with a dragon's tooth, as though he wanted to fight like a dragon would. You also find GMB in Ashen Lake in that game, not far from the last ancient dragon and the dragon covenant. I think that admiration is what led to him getting locked in a tower by someone (Gwyn probably?), and it's not an indecent guess that NK did something similar to get punted off of Anor Londo himself.

Archdragon Peak seems to suggest a similar relationship between dragon slayers and dragons in the form of NK and the juxtaposition of the supreme dragon hunters with the dragon covenant materials and an altar of dragon worship. Maybe all of them, in fighting the dragons, grew a sense of admiration for the dragons. Even ol' Hawkeye Gough had some romantic things to say about fighting them back in his day.

I'm in a quandary /dsg/. I want to start working on my second 120 dueling/gankhunting build, but I have two in mind and can't pick between quality and a str/pyro build.

A regular 40/40 build lets me use just about every single weapon in the game with high damage and would probably be a never-ending source of novelty. But on the other hand, I like demon weapons and Sacred Flame seems super fun.

The most fun one for PvE is Rapport. It pretty much breaks the game in your favor.

There's also the following:
Great Chaos Fire Orb(Learn how to free aim asap and you'll have a good time as a pyromancer). You can true combo this with one attack or Black Flame

Chaos Bed Vestiges. Basically forbidden sun with a disk that can cause some minor damage. Can also true combo with an attack but not sure
about Black Flame

Black Flame. Unparryable cqc pyromancy that true comboes with Combustion(the glove's WA

Black Serpent. Basically Fire Snake from DaS2 but not as powerful. But it true comboes into a hit if you're close enough

Sacred Flame. Goes through shields and allows for a setup fireball

Fire Surge. The 2FP fire damage throwing knife. Use it as much as you can to keep up the pressure

Flame Whip. Good mixup and can true combo with anything

There are some situational pyromancies that can be good too.


Warmth heals anyone in its radius for 35 hp a second. Pretty good for making a chaotic battleground

Boulder Heave is good at breaking shields but it has bad range


Hope this helps. Remember you can use sorcery and faith too so don't hesitate to use hidden body or tears as well to trivialize PvE

No problem. What I meant when I was referring to Black Flame being unparriable was a misnomer. I meant it's a good pyromancy to use against parry baiters. Make sure early game you snag your Raw ASS and most recently, a Dark Hand and you'll have a good time early game

For PvE a 50/50 FAI/INT pyromancer is actually an everythingmancer. You can cast any spell to exploit any boss's elemental weakness, use any catalyst, and still slam down some good damage with certain chaos/dark infused weapons. Just fit your rings accordingly and you're golden.

That's to say, try every spell you can grab! It's a lot of fun to experiment with everything in PvE so you can practice timing and aiming for future PvP, as well as get a rough idea of how much damage spells do and how long they take to cast.

i watched sl1 NG+7 fights and i saw that people never tried to kill the clone. i thought that they do it for added challenge but it turns out that his moveset actually changes a bit in phase 2 if the clone is not present and nobody wants to deal with that
the delayed slam has a long recovery in phase 1 but in phase 2 it transitioned into spin after i got one hit in. i also saw an attack i've never seen before where he swipes you with the Profaned sword and jumps back. there are probably some other changes
meanwhile, if the clone is alive, the real one is very passive and you can often get free hits on him

i still don't know what causes the desync though. i thought it was caused by staggers/long recovery attacks, but sometimes they desync right out of the idle state. i found out though that the real Pontiff can do side swipes no matter what the clone is doing so there's that

he also still doesn't hit very hard, even in NG+3. i'm wearing Bloodring because i'm bad and Prisoner's Chain for stamina and i can survive some of his attacks, the stab in the 6 hit cheerleader combo, for example.

In PvE anything that maximizes your spell damage is good. For my current pyro I'm using GSR / Witch / Fire Clutch / Sage+2. I'll swap that for other Clutch rings as I switch spells up, as well as Dragoncrests/Mornes/Firstborn for when I switch out other spells.

Sage+2 is a must-have for me personally since I'm not pumping DEX much. I don't find RoF to be very important since I'm usually keeping my distance and rolling is cheap in DS3.

I haven't noticed a huge difference. It takes a decent chunk of your absorption away, but in the rare event I do get hit it doesn't feel any worse than playing near naked (which I've done plenty). I'm playing with only 1 estus allotted and I haven't had major issues. It only influences physical absorption too, so enemy spells don't hit any harder.

If you're more comfortable without the bonus 15% damage you should be fine. It has made the difference between one-shotting mobs and leaving them with an annoying sliver of health left, plus it improves the damage on my chaos thrall axe. And NEVER use it in PvP.

Depends on your equip load. Havel's allows you to add defense and poise, so if you have enough equip load, then Havel's can probably allow you to add at least as much defense as the RoSP. If you're lacking equip load and/or don't care about poise, it can be worth it.

The armor looks dumb while not being particularly effective.You should really get a slot for black flame/great combustion as well. Pyromancy doesn't scale from stats in DaS1, so all you need is enough for a spell slot, and it is great for punishing parry spam. Black flame is great for guard crushing too.

Looks like a dead bloated frog to me because her face is kind of bloated and her eyes are too far apart. Ideally, you only want about one eye length between the two.

The nose bridge is a little to think and short for my tastes while the mouth is too far up from the chin, but that is a matter of opinion. Others might think differently. All that really matters though is if you like it. If you do, don't let anyone else talk you into changing it, not even me.
