I think it's even this time around. Females had an edge in 4U because clownsuits go full ham in that game. Gen "clownsuits" are just Silver Sol+1-2 off pieces, if you're not wearing variant armor or Wood Blossom. Maybe some EX Rath. So even males look pretty good. I think I may be forgetting to mention a few other sets, but that's the gist of things.

I'm not talking personally, but a ton of players either wear the reddest things they can find, or slutwear on females. I would personally have put the Grand Crusher Mask on every single set, because that is my favourite headpiece. But honestly, I just think a lot of players would slap on the same few sets. the fact that they gave phial bursts to regular blocks as well annoys me because that was part of the reward for using the mechanic well. disallowing any form of AED from a guardpoint or block is pretty fucking big too, since guardpoint > aed was a large part of the weapon's viability in 4U and why it went from being trash in 4 to good in the expansion.

to compare it with another weapon, you might as well remove charging from an unsheath attack for the GS. sure, you could just use EE to move around instead but the way you'd play the weapon would be drastically different and you'd probably get a lot of people saying they don't like the GS any more because they liked the old way it played

I played so much CB in 4U that I had to play another weapon from time to time just to remember how to do so, and as soon as I grabbed it on the demo I got my ass handed to me because it felt so different.

If you build them good in mhx/mhgen, they can be really helpful. They can sleep the monster(malfestio boomerang) and lay traps(POISON pitfall traps) multiple times a hunt, toot a horn to recover your health, can give you temporary infinite stamina, or boost your HA gauges. Against powerful endgame monsters though, they still get utterly demolished. But the poison pitfalls are nice.

Making a simple SA set for fun with a full Narga X and Seregios SA so I don't need to get Handicraft up. Should I bother with upgrading the armor's default Evasion+2 to +3? I also have a decent attack up talisman but I can only get it to Attack Up (M) with the slots available. Would that be alright or should I just go with some other quality of life skills like Divine Protection or Hearing?

To elaborate a bit further, the monsters follow a certain progression.

Great Jaggi is there as a dummy for trying out the basics and hey, look, you can jump off a ledge and mount monsters.

Malfestio introduces the concept of "hit it, don't get hit" perfectly.
It is pretty slow, but has rather broad attacks with immediate bad effects in lieu of damage. This is very important because, while most new players are aware that they don't want to lose all of their Health, they're still okay with taking a few hits here and there. Malfestio deals out Confusion and Sleep to show that you don't want to get hit at all, which isn't too hard, because it has large tells and slow attacks.
At the same time, it introduces bouncing to show that you do not only want to avoid attacks, but place your own attacks correctly.

Nargacuga is where the kiddie gloves come off.
Its attacks are fast, cover a wide area and deal a good amount of damage.
It introduces more advanced concepts such as invincibility frames (the tail swipe is too large to just roll away from), combos, tells not being absolute (short/long combo) and instant kills (tail slam).
It is also a very rewarding monster, because once you understand how it works, it becomes fairly easy, which also happens to be where the experience of a series veteran diverges from that of a newcomer.

when should i be doing the spirit attack after an adept dodge with LS against narga? the tail slam is obvious, but it seems like he has time during every other attack to do another move before the recovery from the R attack ends. i know i definitely can't do it after roars and the 180-arc tail swipes.

watching TAs doesn't help because they seem to just be doing it after every attack and only posting the runs where narga sits and does nothing after every attack they dodge.

You can buy extra time for the vertical spirit slash by positioning yourself in a way that forces Narga to turn towards you. Like, if you adept dodge the roar, make sure you're not standing in front of it. While Narga is busy turning, you should be able to get the hit in, and a dodge or two.

Why is Adept CB so much shit, I'm not having any fun with it.
Activanting the Perfect Guard is a pain in the ass, because unlike the evade it really matters what direction you're facing, and is far more precise in timing, despite it's very long animation. Activating the Perfect Evade is another pain in the ass, because every A combo in axe mode takes a billion years to enable you to roll.
You mighy say that LS and DS are scrub weapons for Adept, since they're piss easy to use, but thing is that they're fun to use, FUN.

As a translator-in-training I can't really blame them for looking up the word online and just picking something that sounds acceptable.

The problem with "striker" is that it is a word without a clear meaning. It was chosen for its connotation, rather than any pre-exisiting definition.
In German it was translated to "Schlägerstil", which would normally translate to something like "thug style" or "scrapper style". The thought process was probably something akin to "A 'striker' is someone who 'strikes', 'to strike' translates to 'schlagen' and someone who 'schlägt' is a 'Schläger'."

Guild became Gildenstil, Aerial became Luftkampfstil ('Aerial Combat Style', because just calling it 'Luftstil' would have sounded even more awkward) and Adept became Konterstil ('Counter Style').
I'm particularly happy about that last one because they didn't try to awkwardly emulate the English naming and instead opted for a clear and descriptive name.

As for the Shadow Style, I can sorta, kinda see it. A shadow is untouchable, just like an Adept Style hunter.
Also, there is the Sombra class in the Anima RPG, which is a skillful, mobile, evasive fighter. The translator might be a fan of that RPG and have used it as an inspiration.

Not really, because of the Perfect Guard, that litearlly requires you to take the blunt of a hit on your face. Shadow Style would've worked better if every weapon did evasion stuff. Bushido and Adept work better, since they talk about the skill required to do so (despite the fact that Perfect Evasion is piss easy). Konterstil is a good one, too.

"Demon Riot" is the name. It's in the demo. Can't change your arts in the demo, unfortunately. You can't run the combo in the demo since "Energy Charge" isn't in it.

Not sure what you mean by "tied". In the full game, every weapon has 3 arts specific to it. There are 10 general use arts, which can be used by any weapon. You can equip whichever you like, up to the amount your style permits you.

You're kinda oversimplifying, MH is fun because of the gameplay (or was if you're not into Gen/F/O) and that makes the grinding bearable. It can't really be compared with Korean MMOs where grinding involves clicking the same few buttons on screen.

Ceadeus doesn't fight like a normal monster. I don't remember the last time a normal monster spent the whole fight flailing about not even trying to hit you and instead bashing into rocks. Even Goldbeard lacked actual aggression outside of his laser game

Why is aerial considered best GL style? Not having the ground final burst is a pretty big drawback and timing the jumps just right so you land right on top of the monsters is pretty hard regardless of the weapon

Go play Tri or 3U right now. Ceadeus literally swims to the bottom of the chasm and bashes against rocks, then swims up gradually, bashing against rocks until finally lining up with the dragonator for you to hit him. And even then, if he goes up there while you're there, it won't be to hit you. If you wait and let him get away from it, he goes above you.

He makes VERY little effort to touch you, at any point. Goldbeard is more aggressive, and he still does this. He does the exact same shit, except he aims for you with his laser and tries to fight you when you get close to his head. He is still nothing like a "normal monster" at all. His lasers single-handedly make the fight "more aggressive" because now when he swims to the bottom, he actually fires a laser at you. The regular Ceadeus goes down there, or top, and does nothing until he moves back to you, or you chase him.

These are nothing like "normal monsters"
