Since Determination, Patience, Bravery, Integrity, Perserverance, Kindness, and Justice are all very real physical things in UT, and Alphys had to mine out the little Determination that all the captive human souls could produce instead of just extracting the things that actually characterized them, why bother injecting Determination first?

Why not try, I don't know, Kindness, maybe? Wouldn't that be a little safer to shove into a soulless goat-flower. There was even a captive green soul there for her to use.

If it has a color I'd guess it would be white, since all of the human souls had determination and white is the color from which all the other colors are refracted from.
white is also the color of the amalgamates, who are literally overloaded with determination.

Sometimes he'll venture outside of his house and see Toriel out and about, having fun and spending time with another person, who she will always love more than him. Who she thinks is better than him. She probably doesn't even bother reading the letters he still sends her sometimes. Or maybe she does and just doesn't bother responding, no matter how many times he signs it "hope to hear from you soon!" and waits for a reply. And worse yet, he'll be convinced that he deserves all of this, no matter how many times this new person tries to convince him otherwise.
