I just finished re:chain of memories, and I'm wondering if I should play or watch 358/2 days. I've heard both that it's fun and that it's boring. There's no official explanation to my knowledge, but I think I have a handle on it.

Take Naminé's explanation of memories from CoM: a chain of memories.

Each memory is a link in that chain.
Xion is created out of Sora's memories of Kairi, a bunch of links from different parts of the chain put together.

Xion as an individual entity is built on that chain, links on top of those links.

In order for Sora to have his memories of Kairi back, Naminé needs to undo the links in the Kairi chain that creates Xion, and return those memories to their rightful place.

That means that the chains of memories that are Xion, connected to that chain of Kairi, will have to be severed.

And that means the memories of Xion won't connect to anything other than the memories from which they spawned (the memories of Kairi).

So when Xion goes back, she goes back in pieces.

It's a mess, but that's what happens when you feel compelled to introduce a new character into a midquel.

Memories never disappear.
With Sora that deep in the dream, his heart and all the others inside him are mingling in unnatural ways and he's able to access memories that would otherwise be completely inaccessible.

Personally, I don't think that Xion is coming back.
I think that her and Naminé don't need to come back to be healed of the hurt. That's what Data-Naminé's dialogue seems to imply, at least.

If Xion did come back, she would need to have a heart.
Whether she does or not isn't confirmed, but if she does, it's clearly still tied to the memories she was founded on.

So bringing her back would, I assume, unlink those memories in Sora yet again.

Of course I believe the biggest hurdle is finding a motive for Xion to be brought back. Nobody remembers her, unless they just notice "something weird" in Sora's heart and deus ex her out of there, I dunno how they would address it.

From what I remember, in CoM Sora had forgotten almost everything that had happened before he entered Castle Oblivion. Namine then tampered with his memories, rearranging them and added false ones. Then later Namine has to fix Sora and put his memories back together.

But...

Naminé: Remembering one thing leads to remembering another, and then another...
Your memories are connected, like links in a chain. Those same chains
are what anchor us all together. I don't destroy memories. I just take
apart the links and rearrange them. You still have all your memories.

Jiminy: So you can put them back together?

She has to undo the links she made and put them back together properly, but how does that result in Sora forgetting everything about Castle Oblivion? As long as you have poison and defense boost he should pose no problem at all. Hades is really the only understandable one, Cloud is pretty simple to beat though one-turning him is a bit tough, but Hades is a huge pain unless you have Alice, Namine, or Kairi.

So it seems like 29 is the point where you're required to have Minnie with defense boost and four high damage medals. I just cannot see how even with RNG in your favor(I.E. Paralysis doesn't stop you from using any of your medals and defense boost on every single hit) you could do this since something like Tink or Daisy only heal about 2.5k-3k and you take like 4k+ a turn. Then you have to do it again for the group of three dogs.

i hope kingdom hearts 3 gives the coliseum an actual crowd.

The only way any of the Twilight Town trio can be useful is if you have the worst luck imaginable and not only don't manage to get the type-specific buffs, but also don't ever get the general attack buff medals. As soon as you get any of them the trio is trash unless you want to dick around Guilting them.
