>By being smart
Oh come the fuck on. If you ever played online or hell if you followed the Blue Flag drama or you lurked for a few threads you'd understand that a seizable amount of the DCS playerbase is borderline retarded. Other sims have retards too, but not nearly as much as DCS.

>motivated
I hope you aren't implying that learning sims is hard or requires lots of effort. If you know where to look for (protip: the OP) you can find documents that spoonfeed you practically everything you need to know.

>teaching themselves a reasonable degree offline.
If we're talking about DCS, the only thing you'll learn offline is how your plane maneuvers and how the systems work. The AI behaves pretty differently from humans.

WW2 sims are a slightly different story because if you don't learn how to manage energy the AI will humiliate you. I can't speak for WW1 sims as I'm not really interested in that.

My understanding is that while they do a lot of stupid things, they tend to fall into Reddit/Forum tier stupidity which is more like a lack of any "sense" compared to not being able to understand "smart things" overall.
[Think: the kind of person who can perform aerodynamic calculations, but makes the most ridiculous suggestions for "balance"]
>If you know where to look for (protip: the OP) you can find documents that spoonfeed you practically everything you need to know.
Just reading them takes motivation and long-term focus that I lack.

When things don't do what they should do, or when I can't find a given switch, it tends to cascade into a disaster. speaking from trying to fly complex add-on airliners in FSX, not DCS fighters.

Basically, I am very stupid, very lazy, and very lacking in motivation, while still wanting to be able to do things.
I haven't learned anything major new in years, so I'm stuck finding new ways to re-apply old knowledge. So I can do the basics of flying an aircraft, follow some checklists, etc, but in the end something always goes wrong and I can't recover without getting fed up and giving up.

Do the makers of Euro Truck Sim not fucking understand what this sign means? I bought this game yesterday and it's been tons of fun but I keep having to make panic last minute lane switches because this sign keeps showing up before it turns out only the left lane goes forward while the right lane is for TURNING ONLY.

Also the road signs and GPS never argue on the speed limit but that's a minor complaint. The lane thing is infuriating.

I have not tried multiplayer yet nor have I installed any mods. I'm just amazed how in a game dedicated to simulating road travel the devs wouldn't get the traffic signs right. It's not a simple lapse in judgement contained to a single location either, I just drove from Oslo to Gothenburg then from somewhere in Germany to Vienna and the same thing kept happening.
>>
>>147142090
That falls under the "being disrespectful towards a moderator" rule which entails permaban from the forums and revoking all of your modules' keys, they'll also send the ATF or your country's equivalent at your house.

>>
>>147141428
Because an up down glance will let you see the HUD the MFD and the RWR, as well as the RWR being right next to the fuel indicator, so with a quick glance you get an overview of the entire situation of your aircraft.

Also in my opinion it's easier to look up and down than side to side.

>Here, we show that during their half-century history, helicopters have been evolving into geometrically similar architectures with surprisingly sharp correlations between dimensions, performance, and body size. For example, proportionalities emerge between body size, engine size, and the fuel load. Furthermore, the engine efficiency increases with the engine size, and the propeller radius is roughly the same as the length scale of the whole body. These trends are in accord with the constructal law, which accounts for the engine efficiency trend and the proportionality between “motor” size and body size in animals and vehicles. These body-size effects are qualitatively the same as those uncovered earlier for the evolution of aircraft.

ATTENTION ALL PLANEFAGS

OPS HAVE BEEN POSTPONED TO 23:00 UTC TODAY

SHOW UP IN THE TS AT 22:30 UTC TO BEGIN COORDINATION

Ops Info Part 1:

>Mission we're flying
/simg/ Operation Cutthroat 1_3

>Available aircraft:
SU-25, SU-25T, KA-50, Mi-8MTV2, SU-27, MiG-29A, MiG-29S

>Roles Available:
CAS, Troop Transport, TARCAP, SEAD

Player Controlled ground units are expected in the ops

>Situation:
After a swift georgian attack on the city of Sochi following a russian accusation of aggression against South Ossetia by Georgia, Russia began to mobilize it's army in a counterattack against Georgia. After two days of fighting, russian forces have managed to deprive Georgia of it's access to the Black Sea by pushing south along the coast. Now deep inside the territory of Georgia, russian forces are pushing against it's capital, Tbilisi

>Briefing:
Capture the city of Gori.

This mission requires close cooperation of ground forces with the air package tasked with providing CAS.

A very small contingent of georgian and NATO troops are holding the city of Gori, a vital chokepoint to the russian advance into Georgia's capital, Tbilisi. Take the city to secure a safe route into their capital.
Intel also suggests a convoy of NATO cavalry and IFVs moving west into the city.

=====FLIGHT PACKAGE TASKING=====
The group assembled to assist the ground forces in taking the city consists of:

TARCAP:
Your mission is to fly a CAP over the operation area and take out any enemy aircraft which would threaten the group.

CAS:
Your mission is to search and destroy any enemy ground units in the operation area and assist the ground forces in any way possible

SEAD:
Your mission is to neutralize any enemy SAMs and AAA in the operation area

Helicopters:
Your mission is the same as that of the CAS flight. Mi-8s may pick up infantry units at the FARP and drop them near the city to support the ground forces advance.

"Here's a link to an add-on, fuck off and find an actual torrent yourself" is hardly the fastest way to get people flying.

From Cobra himself, LNS has quite a few full time employees.

But yeah, the systems are the hard part, especially considering they're trying to do (I say trying, because I seriously doubt it will work well) ground radar before ED does. Why the fuck don't they have a 3d model ready?

>have you checked stuff like JanHas' weapon upgrades
Not until now, no. To be honest I just got into BMS a few days ago and was more interested in learning how to get the Viper into the air and fly a successful mission. (It's a pretty damn good feeling.)
My short visit to the forums' mod section was more of a novelty affair.

What aircraft could conceivably expand the Korea Jet roster?

Like, the Meteor and the Vampire are obvious enough, I guess stuff like the F-80 would work but it'd get slaughtered by the Fagot. The F-9F?

Did anyone have to do anything special when installing drivers for the X52 on windows 10? I see a bunch of horror stories online, but I am hoping those are from a time when they hadn't released official W10 drivers yet. Any experience here?

I have the pro. The only special thing for me was having to reinstall the drivers because the first time the mouse nipple refused to work in any of the sims (regardless of whether it was unprogrammed, fallback, bands, mouse mode or whatever)
It was working in the control panel and the profile editor but only there.
After the reinstall it's all cool though.

>>
>>147274254
Arguably, it's harder to dodge someone flinging AAA fire at you from a fixed position than to dodge another aircraft moving freely.
(Because counter intuitively, the AAA firer just has to point at you and shoot, whereas the other pilot can be confused into wasting energy and putting himself in a position where firing isn't viable.)

This is talking as someone who tends to stick to flying near the ground because it's easier to avoid pre-known AAA locations entirely in SF2, though. (also, in SF2 enemy fighters get really confused when you fly low. if you're hit bad, you should fly low and slow with flaps out and gear down because MiGs will always try to match your low speed and often end up crashing.)
>>

In 1987, many A-10s were shifted to the forward air control (FAC) role and redesignated OA-10. In the FAC role the OA-10 is typically equipped with up to six pods of 2.75 inch (70 mm) Hydra rockets, usually with smoke or white phosphorus warheads used for target marking.

FACA is a very important role for the A-10's as they have a long loiter time and can be used for comms with ASOC and other commands and brief other aircraft.

For instance if you are a JTAC and get an FACA A-10 you can use it to brief other aircraft entering your ACA so you will have less work. Not that other aircraft are not FACA capable but their loiter time usually prevents them to be of much use.

Stupid shit like marking targets with smoke is rarely used as sensors and datalinks became standard.

story: loaded the landing training mission, once in plane tested joystick which had not been automatically configured. When that failed, attempted arrows, WSAD, IKJL and numpad for primary controls and +/- for throttle but none worked, although I found < > for rudder. On lowering gear, the nose dipped and I decided I wasn't going to make the field so pulled the eject handle. >"every landing you can walk away from is a good landing"
>>
>>147322828
Because you'll fire them off first, there are also G limits to take into account, weapons getting ripped off your wings and all that.
>>
>>147324641
The lack of trim isnt an issue for me. Actually I felt uncomfortable when I used the trim option in other planes since it changes the behavior of the plane at different speeds and I hate having to fix it so often.
Mostly havent found the prop pitch thing annoying either, it feels like controling the shifts of a car. It's annoying when I cant adjust it fast enough though.
>>
>>147325095
For me, trimming is kind of a second nature, in the 109 and the 190 I really feel the lack of being able to trim even if they were designed without having the need to trim (as changing RPM and speed causes slight asset variations that you have to manually correct, and if you ever get hit in a wing and survive you're in for a lot of fun). There is a reason why practically every modern plane has manual trim controls for every kind of control surface, even shit with autotrimming/FBW.

As for the prop pitch, planes with constant speed propellers tend to automatically adjust the pitch with the option of manually changing it for circumstances such as getting in dives or climbing, while the 109 seems to have a preset RPM setting per throttle setting, which is annoying as fuck (as you said if you overrev the engine even for a few seconds you're fucked, that's why I use the autoregulator during combat) and inefficient (see cruising).
>>
>>147324674
But that is assuming you'll necessarily have to fire them. Though I guess it's fair to have them in the wingtips and carry groundpounding ordnance in all of the wing pylons.
>>
>>147325680
Even with an air2air loadout, the aim-120s go on the tips instead of aim9s.
>>
>>147325756
Really, proofs? Also, if that is the case for example why did Tomcats carry the Phoenixes under their belly and Sparrows on the wing pylons instead of the other way around?

>Really, proofs?

I don't know man, common sense.
>Also, if that is the case for example why did Tomcats carry the Phoenixes under their belly and Sparrows on the wing pylons instead of the other way around?

Because they are heavy and big as hell maybe?
You get lot's of drag and reduced roll rate, especially with a missile that size, also more Gs on a missile which it will get the farther it is from the center of the airplane will reduce it's useful life.
>>
>>147326284
>common sense
Common sense leads me to believe that you'd ideally put heavy ordnance close to the center of gravity.

>You get lot's of drag and reduced roll rate
And that's why I find it kind of hard to believe that AIM-120s mounted on the wingtips are SOP. I can understand putting them there if they can tolerate more Gs, but won't typical A2A payloads consist in 4 slammers anyway?
>>

>Common sense leads me to believe that you'd ideally put heavy ordnance close to the center of gravity.
But you aren't getting the whole picture

It's like this.
More missiles on the plane higher wingloading, more missiles at the ends of the wing higher wingloading, missiles at the wing tips reduce roll rate and reduce the amount of Gs it can pull because it can rip the missiles off potentially damaging the aircraft.

Putting the missiles that are going to be fired off first at the wingtip pylons makes sense because you'll reduce the wingloading quickly if the need for WVR fighting becomes needed, so that the aircraft will be able to roll faster and pull more Gs.

Just look at pictures of F-16s with aim-120s they are almost always on the wing tip pylons.
>>
>>147327265
>Vehicles guise
>Humvee

call me when they have something more than fucking jeeps.
>>
>>147327901
But what if you get into a merge? If we go by your logic the heaters will be mounted on the wing pylons and missiles that are mounted there might come off if you pull too many Gs. Moreover Sidewinders are much lighter than slammers and that would take care of the higher wing loading due to having heavy shit at the wing's extremities.

And now for something genuinely retarded:
>early straight winged US jets with fuel tanks mounted at the wingtips, which would sometimes also combine fuel tanks with rocket pods
>>

Read this again:
>heaters will be mounted on the wing pylons and missiles that are mounted there might come off if you pull too many Gs
>>

So you fire the slammers at shit before it can merge. Fuck man, it's as if you're not even thinking about how air combat works
>>
>>147328530
->>147328472
>>
>>147328574
Yeah, he's saying that slammers being fired from the wing tips reduces the wing loading for a merge a lot quicker and more so than I'd you had heaters there. You fire the wing tip ones first because then you actually won't have them when you merge
>>
>>147328685
Are you purposefully ignoring the point I'm trying to make? You're much more likely to pull high Gs during a merge, and if your AIM-9s are mounted in the pylons under the wings they're much more likely to (presumably) get rendered unusable or come off. That's why I find logical to carry them at the wingtips and the slammers under the wings (at least in a pure air to air configuration), as you wouldn't need that much maneuverability while supporting them (the 120s), and by the time you fired all of them and got in a merge the wingloading caused by the Sidewinders would be negligible.

And to add to it, if carrying heaters on wingtips is such a bad idea then why was the Viper and plenty of other US jets originally armed with just those and the internal gun(s)?

>>147329593
Thanks for wasting my time.
>>
>>147328890
>put lighter missiles on wingtips.
>they're further out from the body so give a higher wing loading and will be more likely to come off while pulling G
>not putting the BVR missiles there so by the time you get into the merge the heavier missiles are gone

adding to this the lighter missiles not being on the tips still gives an overall lower wing loading once you've loosed the slammers and therefore you'll be much better off in a merge

>>147329716
>put Sidewinders on underwing pylons
>pull 9Gs

Again, if putting Sidewinders on underwing pylons is such a good idea why do the early F-16s and the F-5 carry them on the wingtips?

Also

Stop acting like a retard if you don't want to be called one then you fucking spastic The early F-16s and F-5 carry AIM-9 on the wingtips because they can't carry any other A2A missiles.

You should be given a plant to carry around to replace the oxygen you waste.

>>
>>147331319
>To which my reply was both of those aircraft could only fire Sidewinder as an air to air armament
If that is not handwaving I don't know what is. The actual answer is that it was thought that loading more than 2 air to air missiles would've compromised the maneuverability characteristics, and the wingtips are the best places for mounting missiles as mounting them close to the center of gravity was impractical, and mounting them on underwing pylons would've caused additional drag for absolutely no benefit on top of potentially causing problems such as the missiles popping off. That guy is right, you're a retard.
>>
>>147335565
We weren't talking about purely a 2 heater plus guns load out were we for fucks sake. If anything that's moving the goalposts.

Granted yes if you carry only 2 missiles those are the best places to put them. But with slammers they're heavier and wing loading plays a role too due to weight differences in the missile
>>
/simg/ was a mistake

>>147336335

No it isn't, we were talking about air to air configs and arguing on what would be best for after the merge. But at this point what is even the point of arguing with you given that you pretty much either twist or ignore every argument that is presented to you?

Slammers are loaded onto the Viper's wingtips for 2 main reasons.

1. A reduction in wing loading, resulting in increased structural efficiency.
2. Reduces flutter by having a heavier store on the tips.

The slight loss of roll performance is worth it because the Viper already has fantastic roll performance thanks to the single engine design. Not to mention it usually has other stores anyway.

WW2 sims seem the most visceral because ww2 craft likely to get sims were probably air dominance fighters

Consider IL-2 BoS or CloD

And air combat in modern aircraft WVR is just as challenging, if not more, than WW2 dogfighting. Everything happens a lot faster.

BVR is more of a mind-game if you're playing PvP, it's about knowing when to launch your shit, go defensive, re-engage and whatnot.
>>
>>147391685

>>

Check the pastebin. I'd say go for that chink seller in ebay or get a more expensive delanclip. Unless you can afford the overpriced shit that TrackIR is.

And don't get me wrong, BVR can be boring, but it's a stressful kind of boring knowing that your enemy could be lobbing AMRAAMs/R-27ETs at you without you knowing. Merges can get quite ugly too if both pilots know what they're doing. WVR in modern aircraft is WW2 dogfighting put on overdrive, basically.
>>
>>147392134
Thanks, anon. The problem with playing BMS or DCS is that you mention you like PvP and suddenly it's

Why is that? Is it because I liked shit like ace combat and tie fighter growing up? It's not like I think those inform flight sims or anything.

People in this thread immediately associate PvP in DCS with the 104th server, said people don't like said server as it is responsible for bringing in the Cawadoody mindset into DCS MP somewhat, the 104th is always heavily loaded with people flying F-15Cs on both sides, with tends to be considered the aircraft which is easiest to get kills in, with no sort of realism whatsoever.

Not that DCS MP is anything special in it's own btw, DCS has always had a SP focus above all. The AI certainly has it's flaws, sure. But if you underestimate it, you'll get raped just like /simg/ did the last 3 or 4 ops, where a bunch of F-14s absolutely removed everyone from the air and went home practically unharmed.

Kek, jokes aside is the F-15C in DCS bad? That kinda sucks, it's a plane I'm pretty fond of.

Given DCS is based off of TFC's The Battle Simulator, which is aimed at military customers, it's SP element has a much bigger focus on creating scenarios for military training.

>>147393260
It's not bad at all, it's flight model is nice but the system's aren't DCS fidelity. Don't buy only the F-15C though. Get the entire Flaming Cliffs 3 package.

>>

>>
>>147406572
To put it in short, they're not BOS aka "I can't believe it's not Warthunder".
>>
>>147406462
Can you play CloD+TF online without a legit copy? I don't feel the devs deserve the money when the only reason the game is playable is the fact that a mod saved it.
>>
>>147406960
I never tried it so I couldn't tell, but I think the game was made with steam integration from the very beginning. If it's of any consolation '46 has no DRM whatsoever and the devs are mostly the same, except for the modders that officially took over development from the patch 4.09 onwards.
>>
>>147406960
You need the lastest CloD update to run TFmod, otherwise you get a black screen. Never found the update to test if I could play online with a pirated copy so I gave up and got the legit game.
Its 5 bucks on steam right now anyway so its not really expensive.

They don't contain pilots, they're export models being tested.

As supplies of drugs for lethal injections were reduced and oil supplies began to decline, necessitating a second Iraq war, a market opened up for a solution to both problems.
When Britain elected the Conservative party for a historic seventh term in office on a promise to make it a capital crime to be in receipt of Job-Seekers Allowance or be a part of the Employment and Support Allowance work-related activity group, the export market made it a natural conclusion for Northrop Grumman: Build a fighter aircraft operated by computer, but which contains a human inside it. Multiple manoeuvres in excess of 9G for sustained periods safely ensure that your criminal, dole-bludger or workshy subhuman problems are solved concurrently with your oil supply problems.

The aircraft went on to be a huge success, selling thousands of aircraft in countries as varied as the United States, United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia. This became doubly potent when the aircraft was adapted in 2047 to give it the ability to re-fuel itself using human screams, and triply so when Britain's Channel 5 installed a television camera in the HUD, allowing thousands of people to settle down and watch the workshy get what they deserve.

CloD graphics are arguably better than BoS. BoS have fancy filters that make everything blurry and hard to read. CloD gives crisp and clear image while mantating the same texture quality.
BoS has slightly better physics and DM, but no clickable cockpits.
