My lifepod is currently right above a reaper. What can I do to bring it back to the shallows? I still don't have a fabricator.
>>
>>147111275
I'm not sure if it's a bug, but if you don't repair your lifepod quickly then it will start drifting away from its original location. I think you can push it back into position, but it may be easier to just restart.
>>
>>147111405
Oh it's been fully repaired for a while. It still fucking drifts for no reason. And fuck, like two hours wasted.
>>
>>147111476
Definitely a bug, then. Hopefully they'll fix it soon. Seems to be random, though, I've only had it happen once in five different games.

When is the Cute Fish going to be available? I want a creepy baby-sounding octoseal pet to bully

Likely not until the game launches. You can spawn them in Experimental Mode.
>>

Once you make a base/Cyclops, you can honestly just abandon the lifepod to the whims of the wind and currents. No real reason to go back to it.

Silver ore can be found in the Kelp Forest and Grassy Plateau. Crack open the sandstone nodes.
>>
>>147112276
I was never able to find the grassy plateau, only a huge drop off and two kelp forests. Was I going the wrong way? Also, never saw a sandstone node, only salt deposits and limestone deposits. I got scared by the stalkers, lol.

You can find them in tunnels/caves

I've had the most luck looking in Kelp forrests.

Just get what you need to make a hab builder then a new fabricator.

Most base parts only need titanium/glass. Plus you'll want solar panels to power it.

Once you have that though you don't need the Life pod and can let it fuck right off

Craft some pipes and build a ring to fence it in, that will keep it from drifting.

I don't think it's supposed to drift, but since it's movable even the tiniest phantom forces will eventually push it.
When I first started I went on a trip away from the pod for a couple days, and came back to find it had somehow drifted 1.5km away, almost out of visual of the Aurora.
>>
>>147111951
Pod 17 is on one of the rocky outcrops in the shallows. Sort of Southeast of the starting area iirc.
>>
>>147115471
One thing is for sure.
It wasn't intended to be scarier than Sandy Hook.
>>
>>147112562
Silver is most easily found in the grassy plateaus. You just have to keep an eye out for sandsharks.
>>
>>147115471
Once you start finding and crafting the stasis rifle, propulsion/repulsion gun, and torpedoes and defense system for the Seamoth it becomes a lot less scary. Except for the Reapers.

>>147115584
It's not finished at the moment, but when it launches the story will be ooky things in the depths imprisoned the largest beast in the sea and shot down your ship, taking away all the other survivors for something sinister. You're the only free survivor, finding logs from previous crashees while you craft things and build bases and vehicles to travel deeper and deeper until you reach the lair of the ones responsible.

You can get cozy with building bases that have a good amount of pieces variety and essentials and fluff, travel around the current map in your personal submarine, and explore down to 1700 meters and see all sorts of weird and spooky flora and fauna in a lot of different biomes, with more on the way.
>>

Anyone else playing in VR?
The big red moon is an ENORMOUS fuckup, made laughably obvious in VR mode, it literally feels like a beachball two feet above the water, like you can swim up and grab it. It's incredibly disorienting and surreal, don't know how they managed to do that.
>>
>>147117935
It's not a moon, it's the sister planet. The water world is part of a binary-planet orbit.
>>
>>147117809
I think the rate varies depending on the proximity to the heat source. I'm not totally sure though. I've been using just one so far, but my base isn't that large yet.
Nice thing is that they require no fuel and work 24/7.
>>
>>147117935
The only enormous fuckup here is Sandy Hook.
>>
>>147118036
Just looked it up, and it has a low power cap but very fast recharge rate, so that's good for a smaller base. Don't know if you can have more than one working together.

The Nuclear power plant is going to be interesting, since you have to craft uranium rods and have to deal with depleted rods. Maybe with the upcoming "creatures can attack your bases" update using the Nuclear plant has a chance to attract a Reaper Leviathan.
>>
>>147117935
I think it's just the lighting and lack of haze/atmosphere scattering on it. It would probably help if it orbited slower too.
I haven't bothered to study it's orbit, but I don't imagine the devs were too worried about accurate celestial mechanics.

I was thinking it would be super cool if it's tidal forces affected the sea level though. It would be interesting to have some areas that are only above water during low tide.
>>
So I played this yesterday and it was fine.
Suddenly, I'm playing today and I'm getting such huge framerate drops that it's basically unplayable.
Can't figure out what's causing this.
It was fine yesterday.
Thoughts?
>>
>>147118383
Yea I believe you can build multiples of them just like solar. You build them outside the base, so you can just plop them down near the vents.
>>
>>147118515
Tides and currents would be cool, as well as weather.

>storms and hurricanes can damage and destroy anything you have in the shallows
>crafting materials become easier to find after a storm because they were stirred up from the seabed
>some creatures become more/less aggressive because of the disturbances
>>
>>147118598
you have to tic on vsync each time or it'll try going above 60 fps
>>
>>147118515
>I was thinking it would be super cool if it's tidal forces affected the sea level though.

Nigger if it were realistic, there would hundreds feet tall waves with a fucking moon that close.
>>
>>147119695
Yea I know, but it doesn't have to be completely realistic. It's not hard sci-fi.

Plus it's an alien system, so you could always just say we don't know the density of the sister-planet.
>>
>>147119695
It's a planet.
>>
They really need to nerf the plants. Cut their food and water value by at least 1/3, or have them be high in one but low in the other. Literally all you need right now is one growbed and a few trees and you're set for life.
>>
>>147118818

This game needs some bigger general-buildings.

Larger rooms for reactors/rooms specifically for housing reactors, general storage. Maybe a station setup for an underwater tram. Better observatories and different shaped rooms. Power, oxygen, and fresh water storage.
Deepsea-pressure doors and double-wide corridors.
Rooms specifically shaped and appropriately sized for bedrooms, laboratories, plant growth.
Cyclops docking. Hub buildings. Suit docking.
Open-sea elevators.

If you grab too many fish from a certain area, will the fish population not respawn? I have my base made in safe shallows and I keep having to search farther and farther for fish everytime I need to eat.

Also, are reefbacks non-hostile or are mine just bugged? One of them is literally spinning around in place perpetually, it looks hilarious.

>>
>>147139180
Foundations or reinforcement panels.

The tooltips on each module tell you how much HP they give or take, as long as you're above 1.0HP you won't rupture.
>>
>>147139246
I put in like 50 panels and it literally didn't seem to do jack shit and gave the exact same warning.

Looking to pick this game up in the Steam sale, and I know pretty much nothing about it. Is the game focused 100% on the underwater gameplay, or are there landmasses? How much content is there at the moment? Is there combat at all?
>>
This or The Forest in vegetarianmode?
>>
>>147139321
It is centered around underwater gameplay. There are landmasses, but underwater is where you are going to be 95% to 100% of the time. Combat is limited, it is better to swim away from things. Content is great for at least 4 hours.
>>
>>147139180
>>147139246
You should also note you need to fix any ruptures that happen with the weld tool even after strengthening.

If you don't then your base will stay flooded even though the integrity is above what you need.

Also bulkhead doors let you lock off any areas that breach so you can have at least some of your base still running.
>>
>>147139460
I fixed everything up and have bulkhead doors all over already. Guess I'll try adding foundations

According to everyone else the lifepod is supposed to drift a lot but I don't see this happening. Sure I repair the pod fairly quickly but even while its still broken for an ingame week it stays where it needs to be.

What I do notice is that sometimes when I'm in the pod and crafting something while standing too close to the fabricator, the pod will seem to shift in the world just a tiny bit. It's repaired now, but it is noticeably moving away inch-by-inch from my cloud of floating lockers.

I guess I could try picking up all my lockers and dumping them inside the pod. They're so heavy it could probably anchor the thing in place.

>>147155938
Diver here. You're mostly made out of water so having similar density to the environment makes pressure not that big of a deal for you.

There are billion things that can kill you underwater, but pressure on its own will be the last of them.
>>
>>147162235
How deep can a human go unprotected before the pressure becomes too great? Also, nitrogen narcosis, the bends, and other problems occur because of pressure.
>>
>>147153212
This is actually pretty realistic considering current technology trends of making thinks dumbed down to the limits and easy to use for retards
>>
>>147162396
Yes, but those problems start at 10 meters, so what I'm saying is - if the game already ignores nitrogen narcosis, oxygen narcosis and the bends there is not much difference for a human between 40 meters and 300 meters, because crashing is only a problem if you have lower pressure on the inside of something, like in the Seamoth.

Current record for depest scuba dive (without some kind of suit or a vehicle) is 332 meters.

Hmm, that makes sense, then. If the devs know about that then we will likely see all of the vehicle and equipment materials we need to scan above that margin. The Rebreather will allow us to remain above that depth without losing air faster and faster to collect them and work on bases and such.

But also, with temperature becoming a thing later on, we'll likely also have to worry about the coldness of the deep water and the heat from the lava areas and black smokers, so there's that for also limiting our stay unprotected in the depths.

Is it bad that I bought this game and yet I have a horrible horrible fear of open ocean? Dark depths make me the most uncomfortable as I can barely even function when I'm down that far. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the game and think it is a beautifully crafted work of art but fuck, man. It's hard for me to deal with this shit. If they do put in multiplayer, the bottom one is what I want for a multi-person submarine.

I'd also like a version of the Seamoth that's torpedo-shaped for speed and with manipulator arms that emerge from the front. Since it would be smaller and lighter and solely for speed and dexterity it wouldn't be able to mount weapons or defenses, which means you'd have to use its speed and agility to evade danger.

Not a lot of music, you only get a couple seconds of some at random it seems like.
Sounds are great.
I haven't checked myself, but an anon said it's planned to release in august.
I think after a couple hours you should be able to explore a bit. I've been too scared to explore much, but I know the world is pretty big, and deep.

>>147182449
Take it from an /edg/ poster: Elite is a mixed bag. It's good if you like comfy spess trucking, and there's a good 20-40 hour honeymoon phase where the only emotion you have room for is HOLY CRAP SPACE IS AWESOME, but then the grind starts to kick in. It's grindier than a Korean MMO, making it a tragically beautiful but ultimately shallow game.

It's not a bad game, really, it just falls short of its potential. Subnautica, on the other hand, is cheap as fuck right now and gets meaningful content added to it on a nearly monthly basis.
>>
>>147182849
Job 1: Equip yourself. Gather scrap metal, quartz, and creepvine seeds so you can turn them into titanium, glass, and silicone. Then turn that shit into a knife, a tank, and flippers. Next up is copper (limestone chunks) and acid mushrooms for batteries. Keep any lead you find while searching for copper, you'll need it soon. The first device you should build is the scanner, which will let you scan shit to unlock more technology. Solar panels or bioreactor is priority #1, both found in the shallows and the kelp forest. Now venture into the kelp forests and find sandstone chunks for silver, which lets you build computer chips, required for the habitat builder. Once you have the habitat builder establish a base (must be powered to have oxygen, just build a solar panel near it outside or a bioreactor inside and fill it with plants or fish).

From there, just search for shit to scan while you explore, then come home to your base when you need some comfy to balance out the terror of the deep.

Am in it mostly for the comfy space trucker gig honestly, I played Oolite for so many hours and loved it.
Comfy sealab sounds good too though.
ALL the games out now that I'm playing/considering that aren't an AAA release seem like they fall short of their potential and are early access/forever beta.
And Subnautica seems worth $20, plus I buy the $20 steam cards retail so the fact that ED would cost me more later might be my reason to get it today.
Thanks for your post, anon.
I'm not adverse to grind, but reviews make it seem like the latest update kills the new player experience.
>>
>>147189639
>I'm not adverse to grind, but reviews make it seem like the latest update kills the new player experience.

I honestly don't know why people bitch so much about 2.1. It's not that bad. The worst shit in it is the severe grind and RNG bullshit the Engineers adds, and the new AI already got rolled back because people bitched so much about it. Personally I'd be fine with better AI if it didn't fucking cheat. Full hull and weapons every time they interdict you, turning on a dime in a ship that should handle like a pregnant elephant, etc. etc.

Honestly, if you do get Elite, I'd recommend playing with a HOTAS for the best experience. A gamepad or kbm can work, but if you really want that spaceship feeling a HOTAS is a must. Even a cheap one.

HOTAS seem really neat and would add to immersion besides just being a superior input device. Can you use it in Subnautica too?

If they finish the game in August does that mean that there will be no new creatures, vehicles, base Add-ons in the future? Will we have to rely on the community for new content? Or will it be like Minecraft and never technically be done

I'll be uploading a walk-through video this weekend (hopefully) on how to get all the cyclops blueprints within an hour of starting a new game. It will include a plethora of basic to advanced information on the game as well.

I hope it helps out new players.

If a seabase piece is between a foundation and the rest of the base and you replace that piece, will the foundation become orphaned? I decided I want a glass corridor to start the base and I only brought two glass with me.

As in directed where and how to go to dodge dangerous shit while picking up the blueprints? I think a bit on how to naturally and quickly get the sea moth would be far less detrimental to the experience, though that can be quickly explained in a few sentences.

More bugs. A pistol shrimp-type dude would be cool. An alien triops/horseshoe crab type thing would be neat as long as it had a unique twist. The Rock Puncher, now just punching respawning rock props instead of altering the landscape, as opposed to just cutting it out of the game.

Find a stalker that's set up camp in a spot that isn't a clusterfuck. If you can see the ground underneath clearly it's a good spot.

Then drop a bunch of metal chunks. in a easy to see spot as well, and he'll pick them up, drop a tooth like 10% of the time, and bring the chunk back to one single spot. You can keep stealing his chunks and repeating the process.

More camouflage-based hostiles like kelp-laced sharks and sea horse style fish.
Giant angler type fish that lack a lot of bio-luminescence and take advantage of the darkness. More large/long-teeth enemies with milky/dull eyes and grotesque shapes.
Larger sharks, sharks adapted to murkier and deeper waters like basking sharks.
"hyper predators" that will more actively pursue the player.
Giant jellyfish, small crops of numerous jellyfish.
Turtle-like entities.
More spider-like crabs with extremely numerous long legs.
A larger variety of small-fish for aquariums, smaller eels and crabs/crustaceans that can be found along the ocean floor. Electroluminescent snails.
VERY long eels and both large and small octopi.
Deep sea squid.
Bio-luminescent crabs.
Giant nautilus.
>>
>>147220757
I like to build starter bases on the edge of the shallows, with kelp forest and blood grass plateaus nearby.

Grand reef is a comfy place for a deeper base, but aside from the free energy from thermal vents it's not very practical. Supply runs take a longer since it's so far from everything, and it can be tricky to get the cyclops down into the caverns.

Latepost: but for anyone still starting out and not able to find silver, there is a convenient cave with them near an open plains / red grass biome, it's just off a cliffdrop from the shallows. If you circle around the shallows you'll eventually come across a cave that's being protected by two to three Gasopods. One landmark nearby is a standing rock platform with several plateaus of red grass on it. There are other smaller hole entrances into the cave but this is the easiest way to find it. i think i made my base out of water proof paper.

>>
>>147232105
That's what I had to do, the savegame wouldn't load but starting a new game was fine. Cheated in all the resources that I remember having but I might have created a tad too many floating lockers...

Can I recycle them in any way? The builder tool doesn't seem to allow me to do that. I can probably dump them into some corridors but its gonna look like a complete mess, but I guess that will just add to the comfyness level.
>>
>>147236607
Pick them up then put them in a base locker, then unbuild the base locker and rebuild it, repeat until all extraneous things are gone.
>>
>>147236714
Yeah I know that items left in a deconstructed locker are lost but I want to get back all the titanium, not throw it away. I DO have an unknown [?] object that I accidentally spawned with the console though, I should probably get rid of it before it causes something bad to happen.

Will the update that disables terraforming / sand digging break my world? I made my first base in the shallows and dug out some flat ground in the sand. Placing foundations seem to auto-dig the sand as well, so I wonder how that is going to work with terraforming removed?
>>
>tfw you die trying to find the first heat signal thing

Pretty cool game though

Do you get anything for exploring the Aurora before it blows up? I tried to swim over to it pretty early, but radiation scared me off.
>>
>>147239147
You can't explore the Aurora until after it explodes.
>>
>>147239147
You're supposed to make a radiation suit and go repair the reactor with a welder to get rid of the radiation.

You get a couple of free modules for your subs, and the story progresses, though there isn't much to the story as of yet. You can find a lot of coordinates to different points of interest in the crates that are littered in and around it. There's also a bunch of medkits/water/food/batteries/power cells in the crates.
The main reason for going there is to get rid of the radiation.

There's a small hole underwater on the port side that you can enter the reactor room through, or you can go around to the wrecked end and climb up the broken decks to get into the reactor.
It's advisable to bring a seaglide and a couple extra batteries.

Can you equip more than one o2 tank? Swimming around is getting real tedious now that I'm going deeper.

That is quite the waste of money. Perhaps they have that Dragon program that types when they talk?

>>147253984
Yes. The extra tanks sit in your inventory, though, so more tanks = less room. Upgrade to Hi-Capacity Tanks when you get the Mod Station, that also really helps.

Don't forget the Rebreather when you go deep.

Save often is the best advice. Though the next big update will make you have to restart the game, especially since it;s the one removing terraforming to fix a lot of the crashing and pop-in and framerate problems.
>>
For power/hull strength reasons is it better to separate your base into multiple buildings for different functions?
>>
>>147254604
Better start dodging fish for that sweet sweet crash powder.
>>
>>147254705
Reinforcements add a fuck ton of points if you don't use a lot of glass, so more could be better. I don't think it has an impact on power if you have a bigger base.

delet this
>>
>>147255069
It's always been that way. The big updates do a lot of additions and changes, loading an old save with the latest update causes all sorts of problems because of terrain changes that mess up your bases as well as relocated objects and stuff, especially if you terraformed and have your base in the ground or on dirt towers and stuff like that.
>>
>>147255397
>Call of Reapers: Underwater Warfare
>>
>>147255069
I believe you have to restart anytime large changes are made to the game world in order to see those changes take effect. Removing terraforming is probably the most sweeping world change they could make, so even if your save still loads it will be the version of the game with buggy terrain and hideous pop-in issues.

Does the seaglide stack with flippers? Does seaglide speed get slower with how many tanks you have equipped?

Why do you people have such big bases? Are they mostly empty rooms?
>>
>>147256126

>Seaglide speed does not stack with the speed boost Fins give, and O2 Tanks do not slow down its movement speed.
>>
>>147254724
Why?
>>
>>147256508
To make a welder so you can go to the Leviathan Fun Palace to fix the radiation leak, getting rid of all the rads
>>
So i welded all the shit in aurora, was there anything else for me to do? I just see headcrabs, then I fell off the opening and had to swim back to my base due to dehydration. Swimning over open water at night is legitimately spooky.
>>
>>147256719
There's two upgrades there, a power effiency one for the cyclops and a hull one for the seamoth
>>
>>147256719
There's a Seamoth and Cyclops upgrade modules, and you get some story stuff, at the moment that's all going to the Aurora does besides stopping the radiation.
>>
>>147256615
I have a welder but i'm too scared to go near there. I just got my seamoth, so will I be safe?
>>
>>147257164
You can outmaneuver them well enough in the Seamoth, just be alert.
>>
>>147257164
If you have a radiation suit you'll be fine. I went in there with just my seaglide and a few extra batteries.

Does the leviathan spawn every time? Because he sure didn't for me.

There is a hole in the side of the ship I went through, on the shallow side.
>>
>>147257164
Don't go to the very back, a Reaper is always there. Head to the side of the ship near the back, stay as deep as possible, and look for a small canyon that leads to a hope in the hull, you can go through it to the engine room. Should be a Reaper-free trip that way.
>>
>>147257371
It might've been hit by an attack or something, that happens sometimes.
Worse comes to worse you can just use the console to cheat it in. Or build those oxygen tubes to the surface.
I've never used them so I'm not sure how they work.
>>
someone new thread when this hits page 10

So fixing the Aurora gets rid of all the radiation immediately? I take it the other suit you can craft is more useful?
>>

I've got one ready to go when we reach 9.

Wish this game had more islands, comfy as fuck
>>
>>147257643
It takes 3 in-game days for the radiation to dissipate completely. You'll have to keep your rad suit on when you're in the zone until then.
>>
>>147257643
radiation peters off over three days
stillsuit helps you stay hydrated by giving you piss bags to drink though IMO it'd be a lot better if it simply refilled your water bar a bit every so often
