Probably the worst thing I experienced was my parents being in a car accident because of some asshole driving while drunk. Being at home with my sister and my parents not coming home hours after they were supposed to, and they not answering the phone, was the most terrifying shit because we couldn't know what the fuck had happened and neither of us were old enough to do anything ourselves, so we had to stay at home waiting in desperation. Not to mention actually getting to the hospital and seeing my mom in what was basically a coma, and yet seeing her try to reach out to us when my sister and I started talking to her when they said she had been unresponsive so far...

Worst part was, the police was so shitty, they apparently weren't keeping the driver that hit my parents under watch completely and he managed to get away from the hospital with some injuries. Honestly, that guy is the only person I have ever genuinely wished death to, and I do hope he died because of his injuries and having had to hide to avoid jail.

My dad did. He luckily wasn't affected by the crash all that much. Stayed at the hospital for three days and needed some care when he got home, but otherwise he was and is fine.

My mom is a different story. She hit her head pretty hard in the crash and it changed her personality and motor skills. She wasn't able to walk for about two years and needed a lot of therapy to even get started. It took her years to become functioning again, and while she is quite fine now, she's not the same mother I had. She has to walk slowly or else she loses balance; she has some trouble remembering things on the short term; and she's a bit prone to mood swings for seemingly no reason. Her personality also used to be a bit more firm and mature, whereas now it feels like she's more child-like. But, by all means, she luckily did recover to a point where it doesn't feel like I lost my mother, and I'm deeply thankful for that.

Never knew my brother or biological father. Mother was insecure and heavily sheltered me thoughout my childhood. My step dad was ok, but didn't have a say in much. They ultimately broke up. Mom eventually saw other men (this is when I almost reached adulthood), and started swearing/drinking/going out partying. Now she has trouble putting together sentences or going anywhere further than telling me how much she loves me. Might be schizophrenia.
