I've heard it's good for buffin up pawns so they can take a few more blows. Mag and Str stats are apparently mostly made redundant lategame due to weapon stats so there shouldn't be too much of a downside.

I am almost doing the same for the Arisen.

Going Fighter until Vehemence, then changing to Warrior for Clout, then Strider for Dexterity and finally Assasin for stats+Bloodlust.

Not really min-maxing, but also gaining usefull skills.

I know you're b8ing but I'll bite because I like talking about game design.

DD is clearly designed around multiplayer despite being a singleplayer game. Every single class has support skills, both passive augments and active weapon skills, even the three classes pawns cannot use. Even skills that are not blatantly for support offer support options and synergy with other classes, like frigor offering platforms for striders to get more air for brainsplitter or a head start on climbing a monster from.

The obvious response is that this is because the game is party-based, but pawns do not use nor benefit from most of these support skills effectively, and there are many skills (like instant reset) that are considered bread-and-butter and pawns do not utilise at all, while mage and sorcerer pawns especially but the other classes to a lesser extent have notoriously ineffective AI. Of course, these are symptoms of a larger overarching issue with the game that is apparent everywhere you look- It was never finished. It was released before it was done and never finished via patches, and the Dark Arisen expansion just offers a more polished alternate campaign and some rebalances. There's augments that do NOTHING, pawns can't be hybrid classes despite npc hybrids existing, and the world is both empty and small.

From all this, my suspicion is that DD was designed to have multiplayer and with multiplayer in mind, but the feature had to be cut either because of time constraints or resource constraints (ie server expenses, since the current servers are clearly not very good, not that they need to be). It might be a good singleplayer game, but it would probably be a much better multiplayer game.

Great game isn't it? I know a lot of people compare them but they really are nothing alike. Similiarities start and finish with 'third person, over the shoulder, fantasy hack'n'slash'. Even with this the games take very different approaches.

True, they're not comparable, but this gave me a Dark Souls (which is totally my kind of game) feel with quicker combat, SotC climbing mechanic, actual weapon skills, actual exploring other than walking around with shield raised or thumb on the roll button 24/7.. I'm not gonna list everything.

The only con to me is the lack of classes, wish we had more class or combos to choose from but fuck I wasn't ready to get blown away like that.

Well even with only having the 6 base and 3 hybrid classes (9 is already a lot more than most games) they did a pretty good job of letting you tweak and customize each class with the different skills and augments. In some ways it's worse than the freedom games like Morrowind or Darksouls will give you as far as your class goes but it does have it's benefits.

Unfortunately no. The devs really kind of fucked up on the save system.

The normal save file can't be reloaded from within the game unless you die and select "retry." There's also no way to kill yourself directly until you reach new game plus.

There are only two save files in the game--one normal one, and one "checkpoint" save. The checkpoint save is automatically updated whenever you rest (at an inn or on Bitterblack Island) or enter the rift at a riftstone (where you can search for and hire specific pawns).

You CAN reload the checkpoint save file without killing yourself or going back to the main menu, making it sort of like a save point system. You can use checkpoints for slightly easier reloads or a backup save, but this is, of course, pretty lomited in its own way.

Auto-save will overwrite a manual save (though thankfully there's very little you can fuck up permanently in this game). Among other things, the game will auto-save when you complete a quest (whether the outcome is one you wanted or not), so using the checkpoints liberally is generally a good idea.

Well, you can't double poison something to make it take more damage, but it could very well make you poison stuff more easily. Rusted staves are surprisingly OP, especially when used with pretty much any other status effect spell.

Heck, I kind of want to make a sorcerer pawn with a rusted archistaff and JUST status spells. Give them utilitarian and maybe mitigator or something and watch them get to work.

It's an ARPG with the open world, sort of generic fantasy trappings of an Elder Scrolls, the tighter focus and existentialist bent of a(n unfinished) Souls game, and the combat of a Devil May Cry or Bayonetta.

It's also got some of my favorite lighting in any game I've played. It's not like the graphics are technically good or anything, even for 2013 when it came out, but the light in this game is just... I dunno. Kinda magical.

It could very easily have been much better than it is if Capcom had spent more time on it, but what it is is pretty special.

For a couple of times, yeah.
If you are in Gran Soren then check your items with the Innkeep; you are gifted something that is called "Eternal Ferrystone" which lets you teleport between places.

You can always teleport to Cassardis and Gran Soren no matter what, but in order to teleport to a different place you need to set up a Portcrystal first.
There are several Portcrystals scattered throughout the world.

Anyone have a couple of pawns in the 30-40 range for me to attempt to not let die in the second third of bitterblack isle? Think it's time to part ways with Evaine and Iron Rook since almost everything is oneshotting them now. There was a great moment with the first eliminator where iron rook popped a periapt, yelled "this should help," ran in and got promptly oneshotted. He has very good comedic timing.

If you see a big purple crystal thing pick it up and put it somewhere you'd like to be able to fast travel to. I recommend placing one by the shadowfort, one by the greatwall, one near the lower left of the map and/or the witchwood, one on hillfigure knoll, one by bluemoon tower and maybe one by a healing spring as you get them. Don't remember if you need to be NG+ to get all those but the most important ones imo are shadowfort, greatwall and hillfigure knoll.

Then go to the innkeep in Gran Soren and ask to withdraw items, and take the eternal ferrystone that was stealthily slipped into your warehouse when you first reached Gran Soren. It's a reuseable fast travel item that can take you to any of those portcrystals you've set up, as well as cassardis, gran soren and bitterblack.

What skills should I be bringing along as a ranger? 10 fold and dire arrow seem like pretty safe options, but Flying Din a Crippling Arrow both seem pretty weak. I don't know if I can aim well enough to make use of great sacrifice and I don't want my pawn blowing it on goblins or whatever.

I just sent her back; we killed a bunch of skeletons, bandits, golems and other beasties together so I HOPE you are getting a decent amount of RC, since I'm still at a relatively early stage of the game.

She was very helpful and she rarely needed assistance herself, despite being at a lower level than the other pawns.

If you're worried about being too underlevel to deal with both at once, use the exploding ammo and aim at their eyes. They're pretty easy to hit once you get the hang of it--even if it isn't exactly on target, the explosion will generally still hit the eye, which is the weak point. Eventually they'll start ambling towards you, but by the time they get close, you should have knocked at least a bar off each, close to two if you're lucky. By that point just climb and slash or cast. If you or a pawn has lightning attacks/boon, use it.

I may be wrong about this but I think damage is what determines whether enemies attack you, and Fighters are better at dishing out damage constantly.

I know what you mean, you want to focus on skills that draw the monster's attention, but from what I can see those fall a bit behind when compared to just attacking an enemy directly.

This is all assuming you are talking about your pawn of course, if you are going to be doing this yourself then Warrior is perfectly capable, if you find it more fun.

I believe so yes, I couldn't hotkey it. Tbh it's obviously poor gameplay but there's something kind of soothing, for lack of a better word, of rhythmically going into your inventory and grabbing a bomb repeatedly and seeing the foe's health just be utterly devastated. Throwblasts are hilariously OP and I never would have realised it if I hadn't tried doing BBI at a low level and finally gotten what that box of eighteen of them just before the Gazer is for.

Yeah it's weird because you're clearly supposed to use them on the Gazer if you don't meet its damage threshold, there's literally a box of 18 of them in the refuge about 30 seconds before the fight the same way the first skeleton brute is surrounded by powder kegs.

Also to be fair they may be cheaper but I'm pretty sure they're worse than blast arrows, and you can't use any skills (like rolling) while holding one, so you're fairly vulnerable.

Both pawns helped with throwblast duty, which I didn't expect. Pope never got to turtle in the dragon, got several things dragonforged, I'm almost high enough level to use the Helmbarte daggers and I got some trophy boots to increase carry capacity, so a pretty good haul overall. Wonder how Daimon is going to unfold, don't know if throwblasts are good for him or not but I'm getting close to vocation rank 9 anyway.
