So, right now I'm doing a playthrough on Normal while keeping my End at 1, to give as 'realistic' a balance between personal and enemy squishiness as possible. However, I'd like to eventually play on Survival.

I can't imagine doing that for the earlier missions. They require so much back-and-forth that it seems like you'd blow all of your food and water, and certainly your Fusion Core, before you even got six beds and 3 food sources. I can't even imagine doing that first Raider stronghold.

I found a basic map of every bed in the Wasteland, but beyond that, any helpful tips/sequence breaks? Is the best option to just power through the first few MQs, or what? Do people who play Survival even start it from the get-go, or do they wait until after they've gained a good foot-hold?

Also, when can I start coloring my Power Armor? Is that even a feature in vanilla?

Also also, Beam Focuser or Gyro Compensating Lens on Righteous Authoroty?

I'm playing my first game on Survival now, started survival difficulty before I left the vault. It really isn't all that bad. I'd say it is definitely in your interest to take care of the MQ missions right up until you can get access to the Vertibird Signal Grenades. They make getting from settlement to settlement a whole lot easier.

Dropping loot at workshops is probably the biggest pain - early on you won't have provisioners. I'd really just make yourself a home base and stick with it.

All the weapons that suck for the player also suck for NPCs. NPCs also often fail at using rippers and mr. handy blades right because they like to do only a single hit with them.

It took me something like three hours to walk to that diner from Sanctuary to sell some stuff, walk over to the Drive-In just east, steal the Power Core, then walk back to Sanctuary. I died six or seven times.
You're gonna tell me walking all the way to Tenpenny, walking all the way to that Raider stronghold, walking all the way back to Tenpenny, then walking all the way back to Sanctuary, while only being able to carry about half of what you normally could, would be anything less than an exercise in arbitrary difficulty, time extension, and resource mitigation, and not that bad?

"Create Your Own Difficulty" lets you change the damage that you take, and you do. It's pretty neat, right now I do 1.25x damage and take 3x damage and I'm liking it. Some mods give you 4x Survival Damage but that just lets you 1 shot super mutants with your pistol making it too easy.

I stll dont understand why ANYONE would ask this

A. The BoS hates all the Synth and FEv tech the Institute makes
B. The Railraod doesn't have the manpower to hold a place the size of the Institute, and even they think the creation of synths is wrong.
C. The Minutemen similarly lack the manpower to hold the Institute, whats more is that they lack the scientists needed to actually DO anyhting with it.

D. All 3 factions know that its a totally fucking RETARDED idea to let The Institute remain, as it only makes it possible for the surviving scientists to find some way to take it back and start doing evil shit with the tech there.

I don't think so, but it does a pretty good job of preventing bullet sponges. Low tier raiders die in 1 shot to the head pretty much every time. Decently armored raiders might take 2-3 bullets.

Some conversations could be longwinded but it's not too dissimilar from the original Fallouts where a lot of information came to you by way of NPC dialogue or descriptions in text form. Probably why I didn't mind it so much.

NV would have benefited from a more "alive" Mojave given the war... SEEING or participating in what happened to Nipton or the NCRCF would have been great, but even Fallout 4 suffers from this... feeling that you're missing out on a lot of interesting stuff. Either getting there too late or just feeling like they're not showing you everything they could.

AND on top of that flaw, it doesn't even have any particularly compelling characters or factions. In love with the sound of his own voice or not, I genuinely found myself liking Hanlon, for instance.

I don't really know how you died that many times, but I mean you're learning. I've died 3 times so far, just hit level 25.

Nuclear Physicist or whatever the name of the perk that makes your fusion cores last longer is a pretty nice pickup for using PA like a horse. Also, power armor increases your carry weight. And companions can carry stuff. So you should be mostly fine when it comes to weight.

Honestly I never gave a fuck about hardcore in New Vegas or Skyrim (frostfall or whatever) but this seems fairly decent. Enemies aren't stupidly bullet spongy, there's the actual threat of death. It makes non-irradiated food and water almost as worth picking up as duct tape.

I'm sure once the crashing starts I'll change my opinion, but I'm enjoying survival mode quite a bit.

Anyway though, my standard issue weapon to my settlers is a fully upgraded Laser Rifle with recon scope and fine tuned beam focuser.

Decent rate of fire, decent damage, and I had plenty of fusion cells to give out singles to.

Added benefit is that it lets me track where a settler is shooting at during an settlement siege.

I think the explanation for the East Coast was that with shit like Super Mutant Behemoths and Mirelurk Queens around that can smash through hardened walls, people stopped bothering to build shelters that weren't easily repairable or replaceable. Jake mentions that not too long in the past, settlements like his father's farm were impossible, and it was only when the people came together and drove off or killed most of the raiders, super mutants, and feral ghouls(likely referring to the founding of the original Minutemen) that places like his fathers farm were possible.

I have played since Fallout first came out. I love the Fallout universe. I knew f4 was going to be bad, but holy shit. I have paid around $100 AUD for this game and the DLC pack, which is good for Australian prices (Sometimes $100 just for base game) I had invested the money already in base game, no reason not to get the DLC pass while it was cheap. There was a control Vault near the D.C. are according to Vault-Tec computers found in Fallout 3.

Because people whined, bitched, and moaned for a Morrowind style armor system.

And because people whined, bitched, and moaned that not every single guns had its own super special set of positioning files so that it never clipped with any armor ever in Fallout 3 and NV, and that the guns flaoting off the back looked bad.

Despite the fact that Morrowind style armor system have this problem even worse due to the modual nature of the armor system compared to the Fo3/NV 2 peace body + helm combo

So Bethesda answered peoples whining, bitching, and moaning by giving them a Morrowind style armor system, and by making guns not show up at all(like weapons didn't in Morrowind) in order to prevent players from having to see all that god awful clipping/gun floating they so often complained that they didn't want to see in future games.

Seems like they were supposed to open up after 6 months, but Vault Tec didn't predict the 10 year nuclear winter which killed everything on the surface (according to Fallout New Vegas).

The issue is they have limitations on as to what they can do. Does it make sense that there are more bandits or raiders then non bandits in skyrim or fallout? no, but they can't exactly make the towns as big as they are in the lore with hardware limitations (mainly consoles) and release dates. The chance of this greatly increases the more you build into them, and put weight on their unstable base.

I got all settings low, ini tweaks, enboost, shadowboost, low res textures, etc and I still lose around 20 frames or more anytime I come near a building, and any open area indoors puts me at a buttery smooth 17 fps.
I've read every guide, every tip, and so far I've gained very little fps.
I have an fx8350 and an OCd r9 290, I can max any modern game with ease.
Yet this shitty looking game kills me.
Do I just have to upgrade?

There's not really an end-game right now to it though, once you get the best ship, have assloads of medkits and food...there's just nothing else to do. Homemaker and settlement keywords I think lets you build any matter of terminals you want and still have it work with all the DLCs.

I had a lot of compatibility issues only recently with my Pre-war house mod and Wasteland workshop 01.

I bet the Vault tec DLC lets you build normal computer terminals, and that shit better not be limited to the surface. Even the buildings themselves, outside Vaults would be kinda neat.

You can do the quest in Concord for free power armor, just kill the deathclaw and walk away, don't go back inside the museum.

Preston and his magical friends will stay in concord forever that way, you can rebuild sanctuary and take castle by killing the mirelurker queen, sadly you can't get the general armor or the weapons schematics because the terminal is locked behind a quest.

Otherwise you can conquer every settlement and leave them full of robots working for you 24/7.

After about at in-game year, I've finally gotten profits on my robot sweatshops. I wish there was more you could make settlers do besides farm and scavenge, or perhaps add in better scavenging stations for them to work on.

Robots are great for setting up giant provisioner hubs, though. Every last settlement in the game is linked thanks to robutts.

Trainwiz I have a question.

I tried getting the M60 mod to work with the mass producers in Contraptions, but they work via scripts. I edited the weapon recipe script, gave it a name, added it to the lists, gave it a unique recipe, but the manufacturing extended script was overriding it I think. So I'm wondering if I did it wrong, do I need to make a unique builder with its own script just for that weapon, or does this mean that pretty much every mod that tries to edit that weapon builder script will conflict with that mod now, unless they make their own unique builder with a unique script?

At any rate Script editing is a lot easier it seems in FO4 than in Skyrims CK.

I was actually trying to do something similar. I was trying to add a recipe for potted meat from the human/ghoul/mutant meat added by the Manufacturing Extended mod, but I couldn't get the recipe to work in the Food Processor.
What I figured, after decompiling the scripts from ME, was that there is a script that redirects choices in the production terminal menu to the appropriate index for the recipe pointed to in the properties for the terminal submenu.
I couldn't get my DLC05 (stupid that is the name - it _should_ be DLC04) scripts loaded in the CK, and haven't tried since, but I think if you just edit the script attached to the terminal submenu, and set the next terminal fragment to point to the next index for your recipe, it should work.

We need a good body replacer badly. Still compared to FO3 it's pretty good imo.
Though I would have prefered Skyrims system with the two part body meshes compared to the triangle in 4.
It just allows for more flexibility.

protip: don't make a new char in survival to rush straight to Far Harbor at level 9 like i did

suffered through 10 levels finishing the questing there, absolutely miserable crawl through enemies acting like bullet sponges while i could take 1-2 hits

then i left with full marine gear and nothing can kill me at level 20. i drop deathclaws in one mag a 10mm with no pistol perks, just armor/wep upgrades

automotron patrols can be kind of challenging... but not really. last time i died it was because i hadn't had to look at my health bar in so long i didnt realize i was slowly whittled down

Buff's 100% right guys, it's not something that takes a lot of time and it's not even that hard once you actually try to do something. If it seems daunting just start small, and work up from there.

I picked up what I needed to know in Daz3d, Blender, NifSkope, and OS for shaping AND rigging all in two days with only minor prior experience. It isn't hard, you people are just plain lazy.
