the only barrier to you enjoying the game is how long you've actually played it, it's actually really simple in comparison to dwarf fortress, heck, even in comparison to other paradox games.

A better question, I suppose, would be "How were you trying to play it?". Keep in mind, Crusader Kings is an RPG, not a wargame. Conquering shit isn't a requirement, and you can gain land and titles by a shitton of different methods, e.g marriage, plotting, fabricating claims, asking your liege, getting il papa to back you up etc. A lot of times, brute force just won't suffice, so playing like military is your only option will really limit you.

Has anyone made the following argument to Paradox and the Devs (about EU4)?:

1. Having Non-Europeans have a huge Technology penalty is racist (to varying degrees - especially biased against Africans and Native Americans)
2. Makes the game unbalanced and unplayable for some regions
3. Is generally stupid in a strategy game and unprofessional. GOAT Strategy games like AoE, Civ and others didn't give arbitrary maluses to, for instance, The Zulu, Aztecs, Inca, etc.

I'm new here and trying to learn EU4 but it's so fucking stupid everyone outside of Europe is useless. Any mods to fix this problem? Thanks for any help. Any good youtubers to watch to help learn? I've been watching Quill18 and I like him and his personality a lot.

GS games aren't supposed to be balanced, they're supposed to be historically accurate. Non Europeans aren't for new players because they were hilariously weak IRL and got owned by Europe.

EU4 is a historical GS game, not an RTS or 4x like AoE and Civ which are made just for the strategy part (though you can roleplay in civ if you have the right mods). It takes place in a time when Europe could BTFO any non European army they faced. It would be stupid as hell to see the Aztecs invading Spain in 1492.

If every nation was as powerful as Europe the game would be boring as hell. One of the funnest moments i had in EU3 was when i played as the Incas and fended off Spain till the end of the game. Non europeans aren't unplayable your 4x ass just doesn't know how to play as one.

Unfortunately paradox has decided to give in to revisionists and brown people and soon we will need mods just to make Europe powerfull like it was IRL. Sub Saharan Africans can now beat Europeans armies by the 1600's and playing as as a non European is no longer fun unless you restrict yourself to never westernizing.

In private the guys at Paradox openly admit their games are racist towards RoTW for 'historical accuracy'.

It's a hotly debated topic internally between the afforementioned 'historical' and making non-Europa playable. They went too far towards history imo and nerfed the Americas, Africa, Asia too much, imo. Once you beat up Europe in EU4 it's like fighting a handicapped child when you move on to the RoTW.

Maybe there are balance mods out there, I don't know though.

I'm disappointed by the lack of "feeling" and "atmosphere" in HoI 4 and was considering writing a series of events and event chains to rectify it.

Basically my idea is for there to be a percentage chance after a battle is finished that an event triggers. This event looks at data from the battle - casualties, strength of each side fighting, magnitude of victory, length, terrain, etc. - and generate a brief description of the battle and its aftermath. The idea is that these events would mostly pop after battles over important victory points - e.g. when a "Stalingrad" happens over Paris in 1940 ending in the French routing the Germans from the capital you get some narrative out of it, instead of it just being a red blob that turns into a green blob that ends with their armies retreating one province that gets lost in the flurry of arrow-drawing and that you may not even know occurred.

I'm roughly familiar with writing events from EU4, however to write these events and event chains I need the values I talked about to actually be exposed - when a battle ends, the terrain, the strength of each side, if it occurred over a victory point, blah blah blah - so that I can use them.

My question is: are they?

And if they are, the next stage of the mod proposal would be that if particular divisions are present in big battles they might end up being "tracked" divisions, where you get little division-specific events every so often letting you know what they're up to. So you might end up with "hero divisions" with long, glorious histories that actually mean something to you instead of just being one of 800 divisions on the Eastern front.

The factory trick is exploiting some bizarre pop coding that essentially makes it impossible for pops smaller than 100 to coexist alongside larger pops of the same pop type, which makes it fold new pops from anyone into the pre-existing pop (unless the new pop would be over size 100, which can happen in populated provinces).

You only need those first couple hundred immigrants for every future craftsman from any pop to be the right culture.

They still initially move to be where the jobs are, so that part's right.

They do but it's the free updates that tend to make the game worse. Everything up through art of war is a must, el dorado is good for colonization. Everything after has been divisive to say the least. But again most of the problems come with the updates, and the DLC just lets you not be gimped compared to the AI.

Would be nice to have some quick buttons for Battleplans in HoI4.

Like, 'Advance Front', that chooses hostile tiles adjacent to the front and draws the line.
Maybe with option for 'by X tiles' that draws a deeper line.

I just build divisions with massive defence stats and fuck all offence, and then a small number of counterpart divisions with great offence and mediocre defence.

I manually control the offence divisions to draw circles and the one big front of the defence divisions automatically expands and the defence divisions rush to fill in the encirclement behind my offence divisions, who are free to continue forward (I usually leave one behind anyway in case of fucky AI).

Drawing arrows AND circles are the key to victory.

Then I just wait for the encircled troops to run out of supply and draw an arrow that closes the circle.

Judging by how badly the USSR is getting annihilated right now, I'd be foolish not to accept. So I'll decline and then accept when the Germans have taken Moscow.

Because I don't care to understand naval combat at all in HOI3. They're ships, that's all I know. I'll keep it in mind to not merge CVs with BBs next time but naval warfare has never been too much of an concern for myself, even when playing as Japan.
