That was literally the point of the game, anon. The entire game is about YOU being a SIDE-CHARACTER. The game is meant to reflect that attitude as well. The only thing in Jill's life that matters are her friends, her bills, and her emotional problems.

That shit about the white knights and the lilums and Alice_Rabbit? That's just the main characters wandering in, talking to you, then leaving out on their quest again to go defeat the demon king.

Real life doesn't really have a happy ending. Just one you have to be content with.

Do you think the devs would add anything to this game at all? I feel like they could add more story in easy ways if they want to. Just add some more weeks in, maybe some more minigames on the side. I really like the characters but I wish they were more fleshed out.

I don't go to /a/ and i don't think it's fair to disregard what I've said just because of some memers.

I can appreciate the moments of foreshadowing that hinted "this'll be a thing later" like the intro where she gets the letter, or when the boss sees the photo in chapter 2 and Jill layer says she wants to make amends, but the way out was handled beyond that felt out of the blue, heavy handed, and like it had nothing to do with everything else we had seen in the game prior.

What I didn't appreciate was that they had built this interesting setting with fun characters going through their own shit only to say "nah we're done with all that, hey let's spend the final third of the game focusing on two small details from earlier" at the end of it.

Her story was explained in Dorothy's ending. She's Dorothy's mom's real daughter who died. She IS real because that one random lilim can see her, and in Dorothy's ending, Dorothy hears her say something to Jill, but thinks it was someone off in the distance. From the very beginning, the game makes sure to let you know that the theme isn't of you figuring out a grand scheme or mystery, or overthrowing a political regime, or anything of the sort. You are a side-character. All of the shit that doesn't directly involve Jill, all of the Lilums hearing spooky messages, all of the white knights, Gil's mysterious past, Dana's right arm, Sei's job, DDD's job. None of that is really important, nor is it every elaborated on, and that's done intentionally. You're just a lonely woman with some issues and concerns about your rent.

Those sudden death of a loved one things always feel like a cheap shock tactic, but the beer drinking conversation with boss at it up pretty well. And it's not like they just ditched the characters like I was making it sound. Jill spent the first parts of the game building relationships with them and helping them through shit. them helping her like they did was just a culmination of all that. My first impression was that it suddenly shifted focus completely onto Jill's life, but in reality that was the focus the entire time.

It ultimately comes down to plain ol' "i don't like it", because the setting took a back seat all of a sudden.

Man this is one of the few VNs where I'm dreading attempting all the different endings until guides come out.
There are just too many orders that you absolutely have to read the dialogue leading up to them in order to get the correct context and go against Jill's inner monologue. They've gimped their own skip option in a lot of ways.

Don't get me wrong, I fucking love this game and relish the chance to read every possible outcome, but fuck me if I have to scan through the same conversations six times in a row just to remember "This is the part where gay Kaneda says he wants a Gut Punch but actually wants Gillian's ass."
