I've been playing for about three months and I've already made over 40 million gil on Balmung. I don't even do any high level crafting or gathering, this is all from level 1-50 shit and desynthing. I will never understand how people can't figure out how to make money in MMOs.

Yes in that, in general, lower prices on Balmung applies across the board, and that the things that are gil-positive on any other server are still gil-positive on Balmung.

No, in that prices aren't just scaled down by a single 'Balmung coefficient'. For one, obviously, any of the game's in-built gil sinks are unchanged on Balmung compared to any other server, making them (relatively speaking) more expensive there. That might not seem especially significant, but for people without crafters, gatherers, leveled retainers, etc, even things like teleport costs can cut into the amount of gil you earn each day. For another, it applies unevenly even to things on the MB. In general, gathering or crafting easy, fast-selling commodity items will earn you less purchasing power on Balmung than on most other servers.

In general, Balmung's prices tend to reflect the amount of time and/or effort that goes into producing the thing that you're selling, because the population is so large that there really aren't a lot of underserved, low-hanging-fruit markets. On most servers you can do five minutes of research, find something that nobody is really supplying, and make a disproportionate amount of money off of being the one to supply it. On Balmung, you'll have real market competition in almost every area, so it's really rare to get into a situation where you're making a lot of money with little investment. In that way, it's a lot harder to accumulate massive purchasing power than it is on most other servers.

Balmung's economy is the most fun of any server I've played on.

I don't think having more gil is going to make me more gil. I'm just a gatherer; a particularly lucrative item is being tanked to less than 4,000 gil while I keep my own at more than double the price. The difference here is people are selling piecemeal while my listings are bulk, just because they're not selling immediately doesn't they'll lose their value from the piecemeal listings selling more often. Demand will always be higher than supply, which is why my bulk listings sell and make me more than the undercutters dream of. They may provide for some simple craftings but there's always someone churning out multiple crafts and they're my biggest customers. A week is typical of adequately-priced items, but you can be sure it will sell.
Hell, there's shops like that in real life that only see one or two customers a day because of how expensive their products are.

This is pretty objectively false. Literally anybody can make over a million gil in a few days(though really only a few minutes worth of work) through crafting. Not even high level crafting, just getting to 15 through quicksynthing with 5k gil worth of materials. I have yet to experience a single day where I can't find a few items that are selling for over 10k each which are crafted with things you can buy of the material supplier in a house.

The thing about Balmung is you have to diversify. You can't just sit on one or two items because that item will inevitably flood the market once people catch on. Then it dies down. It's a vicious cycle but one that is easily exploited if you watch the market.

But they're right. If the demand were actually high, prices would rise. Supply is higher than demand, that's why stuff is cheap. On Gilgamesh, people want THE best armor to tackle new content and be ready to make more gil immediately after a patch release.

No yeah it's totally up to you on your taste on who to commission. I know lots of people here like animeish styles and stuff but I like messy, western, cartoonish styles the most.
Some stuff like shinchan, kaiji, and osomatsu aren't western but still grab my attention because of their unique style.
Just look around and be ready to speak a different language at times so you can contact some people.
Don't forget that it's courteous to pay in the artist's current and to pay the tax (if applicable) if paying with paypal. If you pay as services & goods the artists have to pay tax and mark it as "shipped" or it fucks their shit up. It's just easier to send as the family or friends thing.
I say this because I had a third world guy pay for one and he sent like 9 bucks after conversions and tax.

You're right in that the markets for low-level gear, particularly 1-50 leveling stuff, are pretty underserved - but they're also extremely slow-moving markets, and demand can evaporate for days or weeks at a time.

You can take 400 gil worth of material from a Guild Supplier and sell it for 10-15k, no problem, but you're not going to make a million gil doing that with "only a few minutes worth of work". The stuff simply won't sell fast enough for that to happen, and barring something like new jobs getting introduced, you can't really predict how quickly you'll be able to move those items.

I imagine you could make pretty good money if you basically comprehensively served the 1-50 market, but to do that you'd need to spend an ungodly amount of time making dozens and dozens of items, and spreading them across tons of retainers, probably on a couple different alts. In the end, it's probably easier to make your money in the endgame markets, even if the profit margins can shrink down to 10-20%.
